SUMMARY Eectromagnetic and magnetometer surveys were conducted over a group of ten mining caims hed by Hartand Mines Limited N.P.L. at Smock Lake, Zarn - Yonde area, Patricia Mining Division, Ontario. The eectro-magnetic survey was conducted over the entire caims group except for a narrow strip aong the rairoad right-of-way. The magnetometer work was confined to areas of eectromagnetic conductors and aong the rairoad ^ right-of-way where it was not feasibe to use the EM equipment. These surveys were conducted during the first part of September Four east-west conducting zones were suggested by the eectro magnetic work but no anomaous conditions were indicated by the magnetometer check survey. PROPERTY, LOCATION AND ACCESS This property incudes a group of ten contiguous mining.ci aimsi comprising approximatey 400 acres and ocated seventeen mies south of Superior Junction six mies east of Sioux Lookout. The Canadian Nationa Raiway ine eading from Superior Junction to Thunder Bay traverses the caims group. A new provincia highway now under construction and which wi extend from Sioux Lookout to Highway 599 at Sturgeon Lake paraes the C.N.R. ine and aso crosses the property. It is now possibe to drive by automobie directy to the ground discussed in this report. J. D. McOANNKLt.

3 -2- The caims group is ocated within the Bock IX timber imit and is unsurveyed. The nearest township, is Factor adjoining Bock IX immediatey to the east. The caims incuded in the group are further described as foows: to incusive, and to incusive GENERAL GEOLOGY The regiona geoogy is shown on map no. 2169, the Sioux * Lookout-Armstrong Sheet, one of the Ontario Department of Mines geoogica compiation series and pubished on the scae of inch to 4 mies. The Superior Junction-Sturgeon Lake area sheet, Map No. 46d, pubished by the Province of Ontario Department of Mines on the scae of inch to 2 mies shows the geoogy of the immediate area of the caims group is much more detai. Map no 46d shows the property discussed in this report to be ocated within a band of vocanic rocks about 5 mies wide and which contacts younger granite to the north and south. pugs of granodiorite occur throughout the vocanic rocks. 4 -3- The eectromariesbsronswere made at 100-foot intervas aong the north-south ines using a Ronka EM-16 instrument: and where the magnetometer method was appied readings were taken at jpp-foot intervas using a Sharpe Fuxgate instrument. A tota of 10.2 mies of ine was surveyed by the eectromagnetic method and 4.3 mies by the magnetic method. The eectromagnetic survey indicated four somewhat weaky defined conducting zones, a striking in an east-west direction and conforming with the regiona geoogica trend. The magnetometer readings however, faied to confirm these anomaous conditions. The area is covered by a heavy mante of gacia ti and much of the surface is characterized by ow wet muskeg. These conditions' might normay be expected to consideraby infuence the E.M. instrument but the fact that the four conducting zones form definite and reguar inear trends suggests that they coud refect geoogica rather than topographic conditions. It has been noted that proven minera occurrences often produced ony weak anomaous conditions at surface. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS The caims group is ocated in an area known to provide favourabe conditions for suphide deposition. The ack of rock exposures on the property makes it impossibe to acquire further geoogica information on the ground without resorting to diamond driing. A imited driing program is therefore recommended with three 350-foot hoes to check the three strongest conducting zones.
