There were no other large anomalies comparable in magnitude to this which could be judged to have any iron possibilities on any of the other ground, INTRODUCTION Following the discovery of an iron deposit from an aeromagnetic survey, followed up by drilling; Chibougamau Mines and Smelting acquired some adjoining ground. A magnetometer survey had been conducted in the summer but did not cover all the property as there was considerable water covered area. This was done in the winter and all the magnetic data replotted wherever new work was carried out. To tie the magnetometer results together to form a reasonable picture after using two different magnetometers presented some difficulties but eventually the two surveys were reconciled, Any differences between the original results and the present maps were made necessary to tie the two surveys together,

4 ~ 2 LOCATION AND ACCESS The property actually consists of two groups one in Clay Township and one in Kowells Township. Both groups are accessible by air from Kapuskasing, Ontario. The distance being about 30 miles. Spruce Falls Pulp and Paper Co. Railroad passes about ten miles to the west of the ground. THEORY OF SURVI3Y Magnetite deposits produce a large change in the magnetic field at the earth's surface. By measuring the magnetic field the location of these deposits can be determined. Occasionally in searching for other minerals a magnetometer survey will suffice to outline structure which may control the location of economic mineral deposits. METHOD OF SURVEY Lines were put out on the ice between the ends of lines run on land and magnetic readings taken. On the nine claim group lines were cut using the township line as a starting point and readings were taken on these lines using a Watt magnetometer with a sensitivity of 29*6 gammas per division. The readings were all "adjusted" as to base value before plotting so there would be no obvious changes in results due to the different magnetometers.

5 - 3 - GEOPHYSICAL INTERPRETAXIOM In general the area appears to be underlain mainly with intrusive such as syenite, diorite etc. This was suggested both from drilling and from the geophysical results. The shape of the anomalies suggest intruslves rather than other rock types. The magnetite appears to be concentrated in sections of the intrusives but exactly how or why this occurs is not known. (a) Nine Claim Group In this property there is one area which appears to bs underlain with magnetite of possible ore grade. Surrounding this iron is a large area possibly a basic Intrusive containing disseminated magnetite. (b) Clay Township The only magnetic anomalies are too low in value to be produced by magnetic iron ore. (c) Howells Township The only magnetic anomalies are too low in value to be produced by magnetic iron ore. On all maps any probable Intrusives are outlined in case their location may be of value in exploration for other minerals.

Incidentally, regarding the drilling there were only 6 holes in total drilled, 3 on the north claims and 3 on the south. We have the logs for these but you did not request them so I presume you have obtained them from the assessment files. We look forward to the results of your study on carbonatite complexes in Ontario. In 1957 we did not realize what we were drilling in, I guess. Please return these data at your leisure. McAlpine, Vice President Dear Mr. McAlpine: The Ontario Division of Mines, Ministry of Natural Resources is currently undertaking a province-wide study of the alkalic rock-carboiiatite complexes within Ontario. In examination of our assessment library files Chibougamau Mining and Smelting Co. Inc. completed in 1957 a drilling program on the Clay-Howells complex, located northwest of Kapaskasing. The work was done on at least two groups of claims; one was known as The Spencer Claims and the other as The Bradley Claims. Our records show 3 holes were drilled on the Spencer group and 6 holes on the Bradley group. It would be of considerable benefit to our project if we could obtain copies of the grid system from which these holes were drilled. If you have these maps in your files I would be very interested in obtaining copies. If you have any other data of geologic value concerning this body, such as assays, geologic maps, etc. I would appreciate obtaining access to it.
