PASKA TOWNSHIP OWT The following report is based on the results of a gravity survey carried out between June 1st and August 6th, I960, on a portion l of a property in Paska Towns/dp, Kowkash Mining Division, Ontario, for Can-Fer Mines Limited, covering claimsj inc } inc inc inc inc ^ ; PROJPKI(TY^IX)G AT ION The property discussed below lies in the northern part of Paska Township, in the vitoy of Jeffries Lake, approximately 30 mil e E? west of Nakina Ontario, ACCESS A 6 mile all weather road extends from Kowkash on the main lifle of the Canadian National Railroad to the property at Jeffries Lake,

2 * 2 * WORK COMPLETED During the period June 1st to Aug.6th the following work was completed; (a) A baoe line 4,5 miles in length plus 53 cross jjj lines were brushed out facilitate the gravity survey* Total mileage mm being 30,5 miles, (b) 53 crocs lines with a station interval of 100 feet ;B were surveyed with the gravity meter* In addition 4*5 miles of base j,fl ^ i line with a station interval of 200 feet were also surveyed* Total gravity survey was 30*5 miles, (c) 30,5 miles of elevations were carried put in conjunction with the gravity survey. All elevations were determined with a maximum error of 0.1 feet. An arbritary reference point on the property being chosen as a base for the gravity and elevation survey. Gravity values converted to milligals are shown on the accompanying map (Fig,,!) with a contour interval of 0,2 milliglas* DISCUSSION OF RESULTS The gravity survey was carried out over a zone of high magnetic intensity known to be underlain by iron formation, consisting mainly of magnetite, The object of the survey was to locate areas of greater concentration of magnetite within the zone of high magnetics, A steep, gravity gradient is noted on the south side *f the magnetic zone, with areas of high and low gravity appearing over the center *f the high magnetics, The gradient on the north side is not as marked as it was not possible to carry the survey far enough to accurately determine its attitude.

3 The residual gravity results based on a 400 foot grid are shown on Fig.2, 7 zones of gravity highs are thought to be worthy of further investigation, These are numbered 1*7 although not in their order of importance, SUMMARY AND PcECOMI^NDATIONS Former drilling was based on the results of a magnetic survey and did not intersect,any of the gravity highs (Zones l - 7) shown on Fig,2, Drill hole No k was collared on the top of 2one 5 but did not intersect the zone* l ln i l l if i It is therefore recommended that these zones be further investigated by drilling* All of which is respectfully submitted, (J

4 43Le3NWei SUNI 020 KA TOWSP, -- HUNDER BA ETRICT, - INTRODUCTION In 1952 the Onaman Iron Ranges were covered by an airborne magnetic survey which produced several large anomalies over the individual ranges. Two of the anomalies have centres comprising off-scale readings over 13,000 gammas, and one of them approxi mates the western half of the South Onaman Range. During the late winter and early spring, and later in the summer of 1958, the vertical magnetic intensity survey which is described herein was carried out on a large group of Can-Fer claims which cover the western half of the range. The work was done by Bartley, Greer ft Associates* A subsequent limited amount of diamond drilling was used to further explore and evaluate the possibilities of economic deposits of magnetite-bearing iron forma tion. PROPERTY The property consists of a group of 106 contiguous unpatented mining claims of the Kowkash Mining Division which are numbered as fol3.owsr K.K to 1716U inclusive, (66) K.K* to 1820U inclusive, (30) K.K to inclusive, ( 6) K.K to inclusive, ( 10

5 -2- LOCATION AND ACCESS The claims are located in Paska Township about four miles south and east of Paska siding, and lie approximately 30 miles west of Nakina, a divisional point on the Canadian National Railway. Access is from the railway at Paska via a tractor road, or by aircraft into Jeffries and Sandhill lakes. GENERAL GEOLOGY Since the property is almost one hundred percent covered with overburden, the underlying geology cannot be ascertained by direct observation of surface outcrops. Limited diamond drilling to date indicates that the anomaly is caused by an extensive Keewatin-type iron formation lying within a belt of Keewatin altered volcanics and intercalated sediments, IRON FORMATION The iron formation is mainly a fine-grained, finely-banded argillaceous greywacke containing varying amounts of magnetite. The magnets.te grains are mostly segregated in narrow layers or bands about one-sixteenth of an inch thick, but in the very lean sections the grains are more scattered. Locally the layers are concentrated in horizons or bands up to 100 feet and more in thickness. Intervening bands have a low magnetite content, but may be completely barren and

6 -3- approach a greywacke in texture and composition. The iron formation contains many numerous but minor irregular segregations of calcite, ankerite, feldspar and quartz. SURVEY PROCEDURE A main east-west base line, 27,UOO feet long, was cut along the length of the property. The 0+00 point is 800 feet south of the most southern shoreline of Sandhill Lake. The base line extends 10,200 feet west and 17,200 feet east of 0*00. Two subsidiary base lines were established north and south of the main or central base line at the east end of the property* The southernmost line extended from 2000 S on E to 188*00 E, and the other from 2300 N on E to E. Cross lines were established every hoo feet as far west as 72+00, and east to the end of the base line, with the ex ception of the north base line where 800 foot intervals were used, commencing at E, The instrument used is a Ruska Superdip Vertical Intensity Magnetometer which has a sensitivity of about IjO gammas per scale division. Readings are in gammas absolute, A total of 2,228 stations were occupied for a total of miles of line read.

7 RESULTS OF THE SURVEY The survey confirms the presence of a large anomaly which is extremely complex in detail. It contains numerous magnetic highs in the neighbourhood of 300,000 gammas absolute, or approximately 2i 0,000 gammas above the earth's field. The anomaly indicates that lenses of iron formation are scattered rather regularly throughout a lean magnetized rock dbbmmbbhdttb*'which underlies an extensive area which has an approximate width of 1200 feet over a surveyed length of 2h,ljOO feet, or U,6 miles. The profiles of the anomalous highs portray the intense magnetization of the magnetite-bearing lenses, and show that the intensities increase and decrease extremely rapidly from station to station. They reach enormous peaks within 100 feet and decrease again to a more normal profile within the same distance. The profiles also show that the magnetic material is essentially tabular and verti cal, and extends to a considerable depth. Most of the anomalies are less than 800 feet long, and some are less than 1*00 feet. Exceptions are the highs between 88*00 E and E, and W and 0+00,

8 -5- CONCLUSIONS Although the magnetic survey has yielded numerous extremely high readings, the anomalies containing them are narrow and mostly very short. These intense anomalies are most probably caused by small uneconomic local lenticular concentrations of banded magnetite scattered throughout a lean, rather uniformly magnetized series of sediments and some volcanics. These isolated lenses and pods are probably a result of the deformation of the entire area into a tight vertical isoclinal synclinorium* REMARKS Diamond drilling commenced while the survey was still in progress* A limited footage substantiated the results of the magnetic survey. The lenses of iron formation under the anomalies proved to be much smaller than the anomalies indicated* Logs for the four holes have previously been submitted to the Department of Mines for assessment credit.
