4 Summary and Recommendations: ^ The Vandette group consists of 5 caims which cover mafic vdjbanics, fesic vocanics and metasedimentary rocks as We as a regionay extensive eectromagnetic conductor with an associated magnetic high. Work competed on the Vandette property during 1989 consisted of inecutting, geoogica mapping and the samping of dri core for anaysis. To deineate target areas for diamond driing, a program of inecutting foowed by geophysica and geoogica surveys is required. One dri hoe (ocation to be determined) is needed to test the conductive trend.

Location, Access and Topography: 49 52'NX79 38'W The project area, ocated 150km northeast of Cochrane, Ontario and approximatey 18km south of the Detour Lake God Mine, is covered by N.T.S. map sheet 32 EX13(figs. 1,2). An a-weather grave road from Cochrane to the Detour Lake Mine site can be used to access the genera project area. From the mine site, the caim bock can be reached via an od winter road which begins in the La sarre area and ends at the Detour Mine. For summer work, an amphibious, a-terrain vehice, such as an Argo equipped with wide pad tracks, is the best form of ground transportation. During the winter months, skidders and tracked vehices may be used to access the property. Many of the akes within the project area are amenabe to the use of foat and ski equipped fixed wing aircraft which can be brought in from bases in La Sarre, Quebec or Cochrane,Ontario. Furthermore, reguary schedued fights from Timmins to the Detour mine airstrip are avaiabe Topographicay the region is characterized by ow reief with much of the area covered by fen and string bog. Outcrop is sparse due to a banket of overburden and muskeg which extends over a. arge portion of this region. Vegetation is typica of the borea forest with much of the region covered by stands of back spruce and sma areas of popar. To date, there has been no harvesting of trees in this vicinity. The area is drained by sma creeks and rivers with the Detour River being the argest in the district.

10 5.0 Regiona Geoogy: The Atkinson area is underain by the northern bet of a supracrusta sequence with the main vocanic-sedimentary seq~fence occurring to the west in Quebec. The bet, which is Archean in age, has undergone regiona and contact metamorphism ranging from upper greenschist to amandine-amphiboite facies rank. The bet is composed of a metavocanic-sedimentary sequence with a basa unit of fesic to intermediate vocanics. Overying the fesic vocanics is a sequence of metasediments foowed by mafic to intermediate fows and pyricastics. Stratigraphicay above this unit are interbedded fesic to intermediate s'ocanics and mafic to intermediate vocanics and metasediments. At the top of the stratigraphic sequence is a unit of metasediments with mafic fows and graphitic tuffs and metasediments which commony contain anomaous concentrations of suphides. The area is surrounded by quartz-monzonite bathoiths with a arge gabbroic intrusion occurring in the Detour Lake area. Finay, the area possesses severa diabase dykes which crosscut a other rocks and structures (Johns, 1982). 5.1 Economic Geoogy: The most significant ore deposit in the project area is the Detour Lake god mine which is ocated 18km to the north of the property. The main zone of mineraization of the deposit is hosted within the basa part of the mafic fow sequence, the uupper part of the utramafic zone and within the intermediate and cherty tuff horizon ocated between the two preceding units. The god is associated with chacopyrite in the metavocanic rocks as we as in the mineraized quartz veins which occur above the main zone (Johns, 1982). Ateration in the vicinity of the deposit consists of: a) tac-carbonate ateration of the utramafic rocks b) choritic ateration of the basats c) potassic ateration in the cherty tuff d) intense biotite ateration of the basats 7.

11 Previous Wark: 1989 Program: 1959: Conwest performed a oop frame eectromagnetic survey on the property which deineated severa singe ine, weak conductors. 1976: Amoco dried hoes (9-1) which intersected mafic vocanics and fragmenta fesic vocanics. The tota metreage dried was 21S.2 metres. 1982: Betty Canadian Metas had an airborne geophysica survey fown over an extensive portion of the Atkinson Lake region, part of which incuded the Vandette group of caims. 1983: Getty Canadian Metas dried one hoe (DL-83-30) to a depth of metres. The hoe intersected mafic vocanics, intermeditate tuffs, apii tuffs, fesic tuffs and metasediments. During the 1989 fied season, a program of inecutting (2.46 km) and geoogica mapping (1:2000) was competed on the Vandette bock. A baseine was put in at an azimuth of 070 degrees with north-south ines turned off at a OOm interva. The grid covers 2. caims and is ocated at the southwest corner of Vandette Lake. In addition, core sampes were seected from diamond dri hoe DL and anaysed as part of a regiona geochemica survey.

12 Geoogy and Physiography: (Fig. 4) A ines on the Vandette grid were traversed, however no was found due to the overburden cover. One dri pad was ocated near the edge of Vandette Lake (50S/200W), however the exact position of the coar was not found. The dri pad ocation coincides with the ocation of dri hoe DL which was dried by Getty Canadian Metas in The vegetation encountered on the Vandette grid consists msty (95ft) of back spruce of moderate diameter. The remaining 57, consists of popar. Dri core data from hoes previousy competed on the Vandette bock indicates that the area is underain by a bimoda sequence of vocanics (mafic to fesic) with a minor amount of metasediments. A north-south trending, eectromagnetic conductor with associated magnetic "bu's eye" highs occurs on the property and may represent a graphitic horizon with suphide (po) rich pods.
