1 52N82SE RANGER 010 REPORT ON THE MAGNETIC AND ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEYS CLAIM BLOCK SOBEL LAKE PROJECT RANGER TOWNSHIP DISTRICT OF KENORA, ONTARIO L.E. Reed, A.P. Prysak, March, 1980.

2 PRODUCTION A program of magnetic and eectromagnetic surveys were carried out over the grid ocated in Ranger Township, Red Lake Mining Division, Caim Map M The caims are situated two mies east of Ranger Lake. Access is best by heicopter, A contiguous grid of ines was cut and chained and picketed for the purpose of survey contro. The grid ines were estabished at 100-foot intervas. Stations were estabished at 100-foot intervas aong the ines. This was reduced to 50-foot stations in areas of anomaous activity. The magnetometer used on this survey was a McPhar M-700 fuxgate instrument which measures the*vertica component of the earth's magnetic fied to an accuracy of 10 gammas. The eectromagnetic instrument used on the survey was an Apex Max-Min II horizonta oop E.M. unit at a frequency of 1777 Hertz. The coi separation was 400 feet. In-phase and quadrature components of the secondary fied were read to an accuracy of one percent of the primary fied. GEOLOGY Detaied geoogy was carried out over the grid but

3 ony severa exposures of bedrock were exposed. The area is covered by mante of sand and grave. Regiona geoogy was carried out by J.R. Pierie for the Ontario Geoogica Survey. The north and eastern portions of the grid are interpreted as being underain by a sequence of mafic metavocanic fows. Metasediments or vocanicastics are interpreted as occupying the south part of the grid. These two geoogica units are separated in the west part of the grid by a fesic intrusion. The formations dip steepy to moderatey south. MAGNETOMETER SURVEY RESULTS Severa prominant magnetic anomaies have been identified by the survey. The main anomay trends east-west to northeast and extends from 15+OOS on' ine 4+OOE to 10+OOS on ine 28+OOE. The computer has. broken this anomay up into severa features where the trend is obique to the grid ines (i.e. 12+OOE to 20+OOE). The anomay is up to severa thousand gammas above background and is generay fanked by steep negative responses due to the dipoe effect. The contours suggest that the feature dips to the north and it is correative with a H.L.E.M. conductor. Pyrrhotite is beieved to be the cause of the anomay.

4 The area encosed by the 100 gamma contour is interpreted to be underain by fesic granitic rocks. The north and east portion of the caims that have a 100 to 1000 gamma response are interpreted to be underain by a sequence of mafic metavocanics. ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY RESULTS i "" Two conductors have been identified by the survey. The first conductor extends across the grid from co-ordinate 17+OOS, 0+00 to co-ordinate 10+OOS, 28+OOE. ^correative with a positive magnetic anomay. This feature is The conductor is up to 100 feet in width and the east portion appears to dip steepy to 'the south. The south dip are in agreement with known ~g"e"oo~gy. The conductor, being magnetic, -is interpreted to be caused by pyrrhotite. A weak conductor was picked up at co-ordinate 3+50S, 28+OOE." This~~cdnductor has iio apparent magnetic correation and :is interpreted to "ie within" an area of metabasats.
