2 - i Introduction Eleven claims of 40 acres each were purchased by Kerr Addison Mines Limited from Henri Laurencin on February 18, 1975, comprising Lots 10, 11 and 12 in Concessions V and VI, Cardiff Township^ As the claims are contiguous to the south boundary of the former Dyno uranium mine (operated in the late fifties), extensions of the Dyno uraniferous pegmatite zones onto the Laurencin property were considered a good possibility. To this end, a radon gas-alpha radiation survey was carried out over the property during the period May 15 to June The survey covered line miles, and at least give anomalous zones^correlating with extensions of the Dyno hori zons were detected.

3 Page 2 Location and Access, Etc. The property is situated in the west central part of Cardiff Township. Highway #648 (Dyno road) runs through the property, connecting with Highways #28 (Peterborough to Ban croft) and #121 (Gooderham to Bancroft). From Bancroft, the property is 15 miles to the southwest of the town. The topography consists of rolling hills with local ponds and bogs with average elevation relief of about 100 feet. Away from the ponds and bogs, overburden is generally light and outcrop exposure is abundant. 4 Page 3 Previous Work Though not examined, files at the Resident Geologist's Office, Queen's Park, indicate geological mapping and diamond drilling in the south part of the property by Fab Metal Mines Ltd. in * Geology and Mineralization Precambrian Grenville metasediments consisting of lime stones and paragneisses are intruded by granite-syenite plutonic stocks. On the Dyno property, uraniferous pegmatitic-granite dykes striking slightly east of north, and dipping about 55 degrees east, intrude almost conformably a biotite-hornblende feldspar paragneiss. The main zone at the Dyno consisted of a pegmatite horizon 1,200 feet long and 175 feet wide with local ore shoots within that averaged 65 feet long and 6.5 feet wide. It should be noted that Dyno produced, during the period May, 1958 to April, 1960, 660,850 tons grading 1.25 Ibs. UaOg per ton. f At the south end of the Dyno property, the "E" anfl "C" uraniferous zones underlying Farrel Lake appear to extend onto the Kerr-Laurencin claim block.

5 Page 4 Survey Technique The new survey method of measuring radon in soil gas was employed on the Laurencin property. The instrument Portable Radon Detector Model RD-200, manufactured by E. D. A. Electronics Ltd, of Ottawa, Ontario is an alpha sensitive scintillometer that measures radiation caused by the uranium isotope RN 222 with a decay half life of 3.8 days, and the thorium isotope RN 220 with a decay half life of 54.5 seconds. Therefore, by taking three consecutive oneminute alpha counts of a soil gas sample, radiation from uranium and thorium are indicated during the first minute and only uranium in the third minute. The method is simple and rapid and must be used in areas of at least 18 inches of overburden. The operation involves augering a hole in the ground and using a tube and a bulb pump; the gas in the hole is circulated back to a zinc iodide scin tillation cell in the instrument and counts taken on a pre-set one-minute sequence. The advantage of this method over previously utilized gamma ray geiger and scintillometer surveys is that gamma rays associated with thorium, potassium, as well as uranium are easily masked by overburden and, therefore, only effective to bedrock exposures. Also, differentiation of uranium from thorium is easily observed by the shorter and longer decay

6 Page 5 periods, producing alpha rays associated with thorium and uranium respectively. Programme Survey lines were cut, chained and flagged.in an east- west direction at 400-foot line intervals. Soil gas measure ments were taken at 100-foot and 50-foot (if anomalous) intervals in overburden. In areas of outcrop, measurements could not be taken, and these areas were later checked by conventional gamma-ray scintillometry. ^^. For this survey, background count for free air was about 25 c.p.m. (counts per minute), average soil gas 35 c.p.m., and readings greater than 50 c-.p.m. were considered anomalous. Approximately 12 miles of line were surveyed that obtained 1,285 readings. Results and Conclusions. i. i. i,.. i H i- i i i- t Significant anomalies indicative of uranium source (no rapid fall-off of count from first- to third-minute measurement) * have been defined in northwest sector of the property.' The linear configuration of these indicate a typical pegmatite source, the attitude of which appears to correlate well with the extension of the Dyno zones.
