IV, GRAHAM TOWNSHIP, DISTRICT OF SUDBURY, ONTARIO MINING CLAIMS S-148B83, S LOCATION AND ACCESS; The property consist* of two claims S and S compiising the N1* of Lot 2, Concession IV, Graham Township and is located approximately 10 miles south-west of the City of Sudbury, Ontario. The property i* accessible by a 3/4 mile trail leading north from Highway 17 near Haughton. Alternately, the claims can be reached by a H mile walk through light bush travelling southeast from the abandoned Algoma Eastern Railway which traverses the northern part of the township. PROPERTY OWNERSHIP; The two claims in the map area are recorded under the name of Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited, Falconbridge, Ontario. WORK SUBMITTED; The present report and geological map, plus the described grid lines are submitted for 40 days assessment credit by Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited. The work was performed on mining claims S and S DATES OP WORK PERFORMED; Linecutting was accomplished during July, 1969 and geological mapping was performed during August, REGIONAL GEOLOGY; The map area covers a portion of the north edge of an east-west trending "greenstone" belt approximately one to one and a half miles wide. In Graham Township, this belt is bounded on the north by the younger "Creighton Granite" and on the south by a younger metasedimentary sequence of quartzite*, con glomerates, and metapelites. All these rock types have been affected by local brecciation, i.e. "Sudbury Breccia". Later dykes of olivine diabase trend northwest across these rock types. Within the "greenstone" belt are numerous relatively narrow, but continuous, bands of metasedimentary rock. These sedimentary bands are often fairly heavily gossaned due to the presence of minor amounts of finely disseminated sulphide minerals. Numerous old shafts, pits, and trenches are evidence of unsuccessful investigations of the economic potential of these gossans in years' past. A detailed geological review of the area is contained in Ontario Department of Mines Geological Report 60 ("Geology of the Denison-Waters Area", JC*D. Card, 1968).

3 Page 2. GEOLOGY OF CLAIMS S S ; (1) Control Mapping was carried out aloug grid lines running north-south and cut at 400* intervals. The linos were chained and narked with numbered pickets every 100 feet. An east-west surveyed tie line accurately established the position of the lines. The lines form part of a larger grid system tied in to a surveyed base line located south of the presently described map area. (2) Table of Rock Types ( 3 ) Description of Rock Types (a) Mafic MeJtavplcanLcs^ PLEISTOCENE SAND, GRAVEL, CLAY - unconfomity OLIVINE DIABASE - intrusive contact - brecciation ("SUDBURY BRECCIA") MAFIC METAVOLCANICS, plus MBTASEDIMENTS, minor RHYOLITE The majority of the map area is underlain by highly metamorphosed mafic volcanic rock. This rock is dark grey-black to dark green and fine to coarse grained. Individual flows can sometimes be observed in the larger outcrops, defined by differences in grain size or texture. However, such flows are impossible to correlate between outcrops and are not differentiated on the accompanying map. The mafic rock is an amphibolite in composition, composed mainly of amphibole and plagioclase.' and (b) (c) In the northern part of the map area, bands of metamorphosed sediments varying in thickness from 10 to 130 feet, are common within the metavolcanics. These beds are most often well banded staurolite-biotite schists with a distinctive weathered surface due to the presence of staurolite porphyroblasts. Quartzitic sediments are also present. The sediments appear to represent interflow material and could be partly tuffaceous in origin. WivjBlite^ Minor thin bands of pink, fine to medium grained rhyolite were mapped within the greenstone and adjacent to bands of metasedimentary rocks-

GEOLOGY OP CLAIMS S , S continued 1 - *. - * ' * ' ' - - (3) Description of Rock Types -. continued (d) (e) Narrow bands of Sudbury Breccia can be found in at least sone outcrop of all the napped rock types except olivine diabase. However, only one occurence, near the northwest corner of the map area, was large enough to justify mapping. At this location, mafic metavolcanic fragments (801) were contained in a very fine grained mafic groundmass (201). The fragments ranged in size from just visible, to several feet in diameter and in shape froa sub-rounded to angular. The breccia appeared to be localized along a volcanic-sedimentary contact. Olivine Diabase outcrops at only one location, in the northcentral part of the map area. The rock is dark grey, medium grained, and equigranular with a distinct diabasic texture. The rock is slightly magnetic. S tructarai The me ta volcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the map area trend slightly north of east and dip vertically; to steeply north. Occasional discontinuous zones of pillows and anygdules in the volcanics suggest that "tops" face north. No major folds or faults are present within the map area. A relatively small, vertically dipping fault, striking just east of north, occurs near the northwest corner of the map area and has an apparent right-hand horizontal displacement of 70 feet. (5) Economic Geology Trace amounts of sulphides were observed in all rock types. No gossans or evidence of development work such as trenching or pitting are present within the map area. PERSONNEL! Linecutting was performed under contract with Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited. The work was supervised by Mr. Adam Maskevich, Naughton, Ontario. Geological mapping was performed by personnel employed by Falconbridge Nickel Mines Limited, under the supervision of Mr. J. C. Cowan, Chief Exploration Geologist, Sudbury Operations.
