3 " "-ASSESSMENT WORK REPORT on GROUP "B" of the ESPANOLA PROJECT INTRODUCTION Kerr Addison Mines Limited owns wholly 8 claims for approximately 320 acres, located in lot 1 of Concession I and II of Shakespeare Township, Sudbury Mining Division, Ontario. The claims are adjacent to the Shakespeare - Baldwin township line and bear the following'numbers: S , S 4388U -815 Sfc lot 1, Cone. II S N^ lot 1, Cone. I Access to the claim group can be gained by walking north from Highway 17 along the Shakespeare - Baldwin township line or from the traverse road connecting the Agnew Lake road going north from Webbwood, to the Hardwood road going north from McKerrow. Both towns are found on Highway 17, respectively 40 and 50 miles west of Sudbury. PREVIOUS WORK In 1957, Harry Schlesinger, representing Birch Point Mines Limited, Great Yukon Mines Limited, and Seeley Mining Corpora tion Limited, conducted geological and scintillometer surveys in lots 1,2, and 3* Concession I, Shakespeare township, and Lot 1, Concession II, Shakespeare township, and in the southwest corner of Baldwin township. Only one high reading was encountered, in a pit on lot 11, Concession II, of Baldwin township. A grab sample here gave 0.30 Ibs. of U308.

4 2...,,,. ;; In , the claim group and the adjoining claims were held by Kerr Addison Mines Limited who did line cutting and a radon gas survey. Since then, the adjoining claims have been allowed to lapse. '.; GEOLOGY ;; : Early Precambrian basement volcanic rocks are found near the east boundary of the claim group where they are unconfonnably overlain by clastic metasediments of the Huronian Supergroup which consists on the property of greenstone-pebble conglomerate, Katinenda Formation feldspathic quartzite and arkose, KcKira Forma tion biotitic pelite, garnet and staurolite pelites, intruded by Nipissing diabase and gabbro and finally by late olivine diabase dikes. Uranium mineralization with associated thorium occurs in quartz-pebble conglomerate and conglomeratic sandstones in the basal Katinenda Formation of the Huronian Supergroup. WORK DONE a) Line Cutting and Chaining 9.6 miles b) Scintillometer Survey 9.6 miles a) Line Cutting and Chaining The grid established in 1976 was re-chained and additional lines were cut and chained to obtain a line separation of 200 feet. Base lines are laid-out in an east-west direction along concession lines where possible. Survey lines are at 90O to the base lines, cut and chained at 200 foot intervals. All lines were made by compassing

Stations along survey lines were chained at 100 foot intervals, and the station number recorded on orange flagging tape. b) Scintillometer Survey A scintillometer measures gemma-rays associated with the... '.-." ;. ;' "'. '-. ' i t \ ' ' '.- ' '. '. '. ; decay of Uranium, Thorium and Potassium isotopes, and transforms '' : ~- ' '--. " -' (. - ' : this radiation into a visual readout of radioactive intensity. The signal is displayed as counts per second, Saission energy (stressed as millions of electron volts, Mev.) for unstable elements of interest to a radiometric survey are: Potassium 40 (daughter product of Potassium 40) 1.46 Kev. Bismuth 214 {daughter product of Uranium 238) J'-ev. Thalium 232 (daughter product of Thorium 232) Kev. Energy response of the Exploranium GKS-101 portable gamma- ray scintillometer used in this survey is to total counts (all energies above 0.05 Kev.). The crystal detector of the GRS-101 is 1.25" diameter by 1". All the lines were traversed keeping the intrument on at an aud?.o level ol' 50 c.p.s. and held continually at waist level for each reading. Near the north boundary of the claim group, several one line anomalous readings were found in an area of a gabbroic intrusion in contact with greenstone polymictic conglomerate to the north and staurolite and biotite pelites to the south. The erratic distribution of the anomalies suggest local concentrations of uranium reaobilized by the intrusion.

6 - ^' ^^^mm^ - -.;, -:v ;?: " tf3*g: Further south, one line 3&E at 9N, on line 40E at 14N and on line 4.6E and 18N, three small areas of anomalous readings are found in feldspathic sandstones and arkoses, overlying tho basaltic basement rocks. These anomalies are found in the Katinenda Formation and could be concentrations of uranium in quartz-pebble conglomerate. Further south, on line 402 at 12S, a single-line anomaly is found in intraformational conglomerate in biotitic pelites of the McKiia Formation. Anomalies of this type are usually erratic and uneconomic. CONCLUSIONS The survey has outlined a number of one line anomalies which can be classed as being of no economic interest.
