3 ASSESSMENT REPORT ON GEOCHEMICAL SOIL SAMPLING AND ROCK SAMPLING FOR COPPER, FITINAT CLAIM INTRODUCTION: The claims are located on the west shores of Nitinat Lake, 7 km southwest of the mouth of Nitinat River, on southwestern Vancouver Island (see Figure 1). An excellent logging road gives access to the claims from Lake Cowichan, 55 km to the east. Elevations range from sea level along Nitinat Lake to 300 m.above sea level. The claims are within the Vancouver Island raqges of the Insular Mountains physio- 1 1 graphic subdivision. Geochemical soil and rock sampling was done from October 1 to 9, work was planned and supervised by A. Pauwels, B.Sc. Messrs. F. Thrane and R. Turna did the line placement, and sampling. Samples were analysed for copper by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd., 852 East Hastings, Vancouver B.C. GEOLOGY :, The property is underlain by volcanics of the Jurassic Bonanza group 293. Geological mapping of the claim area indicates gently dipping acid to intermediate subaerial volcanics to be intruded by numerous fine grained diorite dykes and plugs. Both volcanics and basic intrusives are in turn intruded by small dykes and plugs of quartz monzonite. Alterations and mineralisation are associated with the quartz monzonite intrusives and consist of epidotization, and quartz veining; minor pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite are associated with the quartz veining and the alterations. 5 - 2 - GEOCHEMICAL SURVEYS: Line Placement: Lines were all traced by compass, marked with coloured flagging and distances were measured with a hip chain. Stations were marked every 50 meters. The lines run N30 W, samples were spaced 5Om apart. Sampling and Analytical Methods: a. Soil Sampling. At each sample site a hole was excavated with a shovel and 0.5 to 1 kg of medium brown coloured B soil horizon was collected and placed in a kraft sample bag. The B soil horizon is well-developed and the soil samples were taken from the top of the B horizon at a depth of 10 to 30 cm. Soil profiles and the respective soil horizons are well-developed over the claims and overburden cover is thin. b. Rock Sampling. Continuous chip samples were collected over 3 to 5 meter lengths along outcrops in creek beds. 5 to 10 lbs of rocks were collected by hand with hammer and chisel. c. Analytical Method. The samples were analysed for copper by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd., 852 East Hastings, Vancouver. Soil samples were dried at 75OC and sieved to -80 mesh, rock samples were crushed and sieved to -80 mesh also. A 0.50 gram sample of soil or crushed rock was digested in dilute aqua regio in a boiling water bath for 1 to 2 hours, bulked with demineralized water; and analysed by atomic absorption. The sensitivity of the analytical method is 1 ppm for copper. RESULTS: A total of 220 soil and 62 rock samples were collected. The results of the soil survey are illustrated in Figure 2. Values of 1 to 10 ppm Cu were obtained over most of the grid, values much lower than customarily obtained in volcanic terrain. High values ( ppm) were obtained in the western part of the grid over a small area of 400 x 250 m. An attempt was made to statistically analyse the results for the presence of distinguishable lognormal populations of values. Only one population of values was obtained from this analysis. This could be due to the presence of a separate low background population below 10 ppm Cu. The precision and sensitivity of the analytical methods used would preclude the detection of such population in the present results.

6 - 3 - Rock chip samples were taken over a total length of 325 m of outcrop in three creek beds. The location of the samples is indicated on Figure 2 and the results are given in Appendix 11. The rock type sampled in creek 1 was rhyolite porphyry with minor amounts of quartz veins; carrying pyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite. The rocktype sampled in both Creeks I1 and 111 was medium grained quartz monzonite with variable amounts of thin quartz veins with phyrite, chalcopyrite and molybdenite. The analytical results clearly indicate highly anomalous values, up to 700 ppm of copper in this area. The rock sampling covers all outcrops within the 50 ppm contour in the south western part of the claim. CONCLUSIONS: Soil surveys indicated high copper values in a 200 x 400 m area in the southwestern part of the claims. Rock sampling of all outcrops within the 50 ppm Cu contour indicated highly anomalous values of copper in bedrock as the source. The grades obtained although anomalous are sub-economic.
