4 . INTRODUCTION: -4- B This report covers work carried out in 985, on a group of 56 contiguous caims in McCoo Township. The caims were staked to assess the possibe god bearing potentia of a Fesic/mafic contact in cose proximity to the nose of an utramafic intrusion. Work f carried out in 985 consists of the estabishment of a grid, H geoogica mapping, a proton precession magnetometer survey and backhoe trenching. m Due to extensive overburden cover, outcrop exposure was very poor except in the the southern portion of the grid where a arge mass of choritic piowed basats juts above the pain. The extensive overburden aso hindered the backhoe trenching program in that bedrock was encountered in ony one trench. m 2. LOCATION AND ACCESS: The McCoo Township property is ocated in the northwest corner of ' McCoo Township approximatey 24km east of Matheson, Ontario (Figure M Access to the property is gained by foowing highway 0 east from Matheson, about 23 km to the Munro/McCoo township ine. A good a weather hauage road goes north from here. About 9 km north on this road wi give you access to the caim group by a series of od driing and ogging roads passabe on a terrain vehices ony.

6 The 3. PROPERTY STATUS AND DESCRIPTION -6- McCoo Township property consists of 56 contiguous unpatented caims, staked December 984 for Noranda Exporation Co. Ltd. A ist of caim numbers (Tabe ) and a caim map (Figure ) foow. m The property is argey covered by a gacia overburden except for a arge mass of piowed basats which form a prominent ridge in the southwest corner of the grided area. The vegetation covering the area consists of swampy Back Spruce areas, sand pains and ridges with Jack Pine and areas of Popar and mixed coniferous trees. 4. PREVIOUS WORK The eariest reported geoogica mapping of McCoo Township was by C.W. Knight in 99. A more current examination was carried out by J. Sattery in 952. In 949, the Canadian Johns Manvie Company Limited brought into production a deposit of chrysotie asbestos fibre in serpentinized dunite in the adjoining township of Munro. This discovery sparked a furry of activity in the whoe area. Severa Dunite and Peridotite bodies in McCoo township were extensivey tested by numerous companies in the eary 950's. Aeromagnetics, ground magnetics and diamond driing was carried out on the most favourabe targets. God exporation, as we as other precious metas, has been the center of attention in recent years.

PREVIOUS WORK (cont'd) Noranda became interested in the area foowing the reease of some god assays by Pacer Deveopment who had been extensivey exporing a simiar geoogica mode to that which Noranda Exporation had staked. 5. RECENT WORK A. GEOLOGY Due to extensive swamp and gacia ti cover outcrop exposure is imited on the area that was gridded. In the southwest corner of the gridded area, a arge mass of basic and intermediate vocanics outcrop. Rock types mapped incude a variety of Andesites and Basats with varying textures, coour and ateration effects. Both massive and The avas vary in coour from a dark piowed basats were mapped. green (choritic) to pae grey green. These coour variations are probaby due to varying degrees of choritization, saussuritization, carbonatization or siicification. The ony other area of outcrop exposure is near the B. L. on Lines 750E to 25E where a mafic to intermediate vocanic is in contact with a variety of fesic vocanics. Fesic rock types mapped incude a pae grey rhyoite with numerous rounded to subrounded quartzeyes. Quartz "eye" crysta tuffs were aso mapped as we as possibe fesic intrusives.

9 * M A. GEOLOGY (cont'd) Both the basic-intermediate and fesic rocks in this area shows i signs of hydrotherma ateration. These incude quartz-carbonate B veining, siicification and carbonatization. Shearing and minor brecciation was aso noted on a sma scae. Ony trace to 7, pyrite and pyrrhotite was noted in this area usuay in the choritic andesites and basats. Two exposures of diabase were mapped on Lines 750E and 25E (See Map ). B. MAGNETOMETER SURVEY. Survey Parameters During the month of October 985, a Proton Precession Magnetometer Survey was carried out on the estabished grid. The instrument used was a Geometrics G-86 which reads the tota fied within nt. Approximatey 9km of magnetic surveying was carried out on NE trending Grid ines spaced 25m apart. Readings were taken at 25m intervas with intermediate stations within anomaous zones. A base station was estabished and the diurna variation of the earth's magnetic fied was monitored during the course of the survey. Corrections were appied to the readings as a function of time of reading.

10 -0-2. Data Presentation The magnetic fied data is presented in contoured pan form on Map 2. Contour intervas are variabe depending on the magnetic gradient. Discussion of Resuts The magnetometer survey was very successfu in outining the tip of a arge serpentinized peridotite and dunite compex which has been very we defined in the past by diamond driing. South of the grid on Lines 250E and 375E some moderatey to strongy magnetic iron thoeiites were mapped. Readings taken in this area are eevated by nt. The very strong magnetic infuence of the peridotites has masked the signature of other rock units in the area. The magnetics have outined the fesic/mafic contact just north of the baseine, which trends in a northwestery direction. On ines 25E and 750E the magnetics are strong over two exposures of a magnetic diabase dyke.

11 Two C. TRENCHING -- days of backhoe trenching was carried out by Northand Exporations for Noranda Exporation in eary November 985, using a M s tandard backhoe unit mounted on the back of a Muskeg tractor. This unit aowed for easy access to the property where ack of bushroads and extensive muskeg was a probem. Eeven trenches were dug in an attempt to find the bedrock source of severa anomaous humic sampes taken in the summer of 985 as we J as to possiby expose the favourabe hydrothermay atered contact. which strikes through this area. See figure 2. Bedrock was ony encountered in trench eeven () which was expected as this trench was very cose to outcrop. The bedrock m s urface in the trench dipped very steepy to the southwest. Rock type in the trench is a choritic, weaky atered dacite to andesite. A foot basa ti was noted in this trench. A the remaining trenches were dug to a maximum depth of 3.5m with no bedrock encountered. The soi profies of a the trenches were the same with varying thicknesses of B2 soi horizon, fine sand, brown cay to grey cay in that order. Grey cay was in the bottom of a the trenches. Backfiing was done for safety reasons after U s evera representative soi and cay sampes were taken for anaysis.

12 6. CONCLUSION Geoogica mapping, humic samping and a magnetometer survey had ' outined a geochemicay anomaous, geoogicay favourabe area of H interest. An attempt to carry out backhoe trenching faied due to the extensive overburden cover. It is being proposed at this time that one, possiby two diamond dri hoes be used to test this area further.
