2 BASAL TILL SURVEY ARCHJ.BALD-PICK GROUP JACOBSON TOWNSHIP, ONTARIO. Introduction: Over much of Northern Ontario lies varying depths of glacial till material consisting of unconsolidated sand, clay, gravel and boulder. The basal till material overlies directly above the bedrock, and consists of coarse sand and/or gravel with portions of v;eathered or decomposed bedrock. Geochemical sampling from surface materials is misleading as it might contain dispersions from a great distance away. Basal till material usually represents underlying bedrock material or material dispersion from a relatively short distance; depending on the water percolation ; in that area. Ground water percolates through the basal till layer and absorbs some of the chemical content of both j; the basal till material and the bedrock underlying it. Basal till sampling is more indicative of the underlying i material and has less contamination from surrounding material than conventional geochemical (surficial) sampling. ' f A total of 62 holes were drilled for a total of 416 f. feet; an average of 6.7 feet per hole. It has indicated that shallow depths of overburden cover the area of surveying; the deepest hole penetrating to 26 feet and to bedrock in over 95?i of the holes. Three lines were run during the survey; the west boundary, the east boundary, and the central section (boundary between and ). The purpose of the survey was to try and delineate offshoots from the Cline Mine deposit to the west and the Markes discovery to the east which might continue onto the property in areas of swampy overburden cover. The Markes showing and the Cline deposit appear to \ be on the same geological strike, with a distance of approximately 4800 feet between them. Anomalous gold values were located in four areas; two on Line A (18E) and one each on Lines B (32E) and C (44E). Anomalous gold values, corresponding to chemical sediment shears, are as high as 14.4 times background value. These anomalous areas will have to be tested in greater detail. f

3 Location's Access; The property is located approximately 24 miles north east of the town of Wawa, or approximately 95 kilometers by road. It is approximately five miles south of the town of Lochalsh which lies on the Canadian Pacific Railroad, and approximately seven miles northeast of the town of Goudreau which lies on the Algoma Central Railway. A gravel road connects the town of Goudreau with Lochalsh. This road is connected by a gravel road through Dubruilville from the Trans Canada Highway l 17, which is presently open all yea r round. The property consists of five contiguous unpatented \ mining claims numbered: SSM j l f \ l Topography; The property is relatively flat lying with gently undulating relief. The central sections of claims and are swamp covered, and the eastern sections of and 6dft842 are swamp covered. Up to 40% of the property is covered by swamp overburden. Outcropping^ are sparse except in the northwest and west sections of the claim group. The claims are covered by mature birch, spruce, and jack pine. Geology; The oldest rocks are of Precambrian age. Archean metavolcanics and metasediments have beer: Intruded by granodiorite, diorite, quartz porphyry, and diabase dykes. A series of eastwest trending shears are found paralleling the regional strike. The diabase dykes cut at a northwest trend, paralleling regional fault zones. A majority of the property is underlain by mafic metavolcanic flows consisting of intercalated basalts and andesites. Y

4 These strike in an 080 degree direction and dip steeply to the north. The flows are generally massive with narrower horizons of coarse grained sulphide (pyrite-magnetite) rich flows intercalated with them. Several bnds of felsic metavc.canic flows (tuffs) cut the metavolcanic sequences. These dip steeply to the north. The contacts between the fine and coarse grained flows (andesites and basalts) are generally cut by a series of quartz-feldspar dykes or chemical sediment shears. At least three diabase dyke systems cut the property. Ore zones at the Cline Mine consist of quartz veins within altered mafic metavolcanics and altered granodiorite. Approximately 67,687 ounces of gold have been mined from the Cline property from 333,435 tons milled. Ore reserves are estimated at 20,400 tons grading approximately 0.70 ounces of gold per ton. On the Markes property, a diamond drill hole outlined 20.0 feet averaging 0.25 ounces of gold per ton. The gold bearing zones lie within chemical sediment or altered porphyry rich shears which have been cut by faults and/or diabase dyke structures. Basal Till Sampling; f Three lines; the west boundary, the east boundary, and f V the common boundary between claims 60&839 and were used j for the survey. Holes were run at spacings of 25 feet between \ them; with every other hole being logged in detail. The length of the lines was dependent upon the size of the swamp/overburden l covered areas. \ The west boundary was 550 feet in length and consisted ' of 23 drill holes. The holes ranged from 1.0 feet to 8.5 fact ; in depth. The underlying material consisted of coarse sand, t and fine boulder till. Some holes had to be drilled up to i four times before bedrock was encountered. The materials! encountered in the basal material were felsic metavolcanic tuff fragments, and fine to coarse grained mafic metavolcanic, basalt-andesite fragments. This line was put in to try and find the continuation of the Cline gold bearing zone which is S"

5 approximately 2200 feet to the west and in line of strike. The central boundary was 850 feet in length and was covered by 17 drill holes. The holes ranged in depth from 3.0 to 14.5 feet in depth. The material generally consisted of fine sand to fine gravel. The eastern boundary was approximately 1100 feet in length and was covered by 22 drill holes. These holes ranged in depth from 3.0 to 26.0 feet in depth. They encountered mainly fine to coarse gravel till. The Markes showing which encountered significant gold-bearing material is approximately 1000 feet to the east. One diamond drill hole was found on the boundary line near hole AP8529. A total of feet was drilled in 62 drill holes. Over 95% of the holes reached bedrock. One hole, AP8503 penetrated at least two feet into sheared bedrock. The deepest hole was 26.0,feet in depth, and overburden coverage was generally shallow. The odd numbered holes (every other hole) was logged in detail and sent out for analysis. The samples from the other holes are kept and will be sent out for assay if the results from the adjoining holes are significant. The survey was run from November 24, 1985 to December l, 1985, in snow conditions with up to 11 inches of snow.' Anomalous gold values are located in holes: 11A, 41, 51, 53, and 61. These values correspond to chemical sediment shear zones which occur on the crest or the south elope of knolls. The highest anomalous value is approximately 14.4 times background value (hole 11A). The other holes are respectively 5.6, 6.4, 4.6, and 5.8 times background gold value. Four target areas have been outlined for further detailed investigations; the central section of Line C (44E), the north section of Line B (32E), and the central and north end of line A (18E).
