2 VLF-EM AND MAGNETOMETER SURVEYS FIRST LOON LAKE PROPERTY INTRODUCTION During the period April l to 15, 1988, ground VLF-EM and magnetometer surveys were carried out by J. Hodge and Associates over 14 claims of the First Loon Lake Property of UMEX Inc. The claims lie at the northeast end of the Pickle Lake greenstone belt of northwestern Ontario. The survey was undertaken to define the major geophysical characteristics of the property. PROPERTY The 14 claims are part of a larger 92 claim group that lies in the central portion of the First Loon Lake claim sheet (G-2037). The property is in the Patricia Mining Division. The survey covers all of claims Pa , , , and , and part of Pa , , , , , , , , , and LOCATION AND ACCESS The claims lie on topographic map sheet 52P/12, approximately 27 km ENE of the village of Pickle Lake, Ontario at latitude 51 deg. 35' N and longitude 89 deg. 50' W. The property may be reached by float or ski equipped aircraft operating out of Pickle Lake. PREVIOUS WORK The only previous work recorded on the claim block was carried out by Conwest during the 1970's. After flying an airborne survey, grids were established and ground geophysical surveys were carried out. One hole was collared on the present grid, near the north boundary of Claim Pa PROPERTY GEOLOGY The property is underlain by a series of east to northeast trending foliated massive to pillowed mafic metavolcanics intercalated with a cherty, variably magnetic iron formation. The iron formation strikes across the central portion of the claim group just south of the Baseline. It consists of well banded dark grey to rusty red weathering chert with thin magnetite seams and trace pyrrhotite.

3 Page 2...cont'd EX8850 GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS During the period April 1-15, 1988, a previously cut grid was surveyed with a Scintrex MF-1 fluxgate magnetometer and a Geonics EM-l6 VLF-EM instrument. The magnetometer records the total magnetic field while the VLF measures the tilt angle and quadrature of the low frequency plane radio waves transmitted by the U.S. Naval Submarine Communications stations. The transmitter station used for the present survey was the NAA, Cutler, Main,e station, operating with a carrier frequency of 24.0 khz. The survey was conducted along lines with a 100 metre spacing and 25 metre station intervals. The magnetic survey used intermediate, 12.5 metre stations in areas of high magnetic intensity. On the maps accompanying this report the magnetic data are presented as contours of the total magnetic field, and the VLF- EM data are presented as profile plots of the raw, unfiltered data, including a calculated Fraser Filter profile. INTERPRETATION The dominant feature on both the VLF and magnetic maps is the geophysical expression of the chert magnetite iron formation which strikes across the central portion of the grid just south of the Baseline. The VLF signature is more consistent along strike than that of the magnetics. The magnetic maps indicate a sharp drop in magnetite content (or in the width of the unit), on Lines 24, 25, and 26E and again on Lines 31, 32, and 33E. These regions could represent zones of sulphidization and may therefore be interesting areas for further study. The VLF profiles do not demonstrate a corresponding decrease in conductivity in the above mentioned zones of depressed magnetic intensity. The reasons for this are not fully understood. A second, parallel VLF response was picked up along the Baseline on claim Pa This response may however be due to surficial effects resulting from a small lake that covers much of this claim.

4 Page 3.../cont'd EX8850 DISCUSSION OF RESULTS The major feature of interest is an ENE trending zone of high conductivity and high magnetic activity in the central portion of the survey area. From previous work by Conwest and from UMEX's own reconnaissance mapping this geophysical response is known to reflect a chert-magnetite iron formation. The changes in magnetic response along strike indicate the formation has either a variable width or a variable magnetite content. Further work should focus on areas where depressed magnetic activity coincides with strong conductivity, since these regions may indicate a sulphidization process related to gold deposition.
