3 SUMMARY In January 1978, 15-^0 acre contiguous mining claims were staked within the Houghton Lake Area of Ontario centred on latitude N and longitude 90-^5 W. The property is accessible by all weather roads. It was staked "based on a reliable source that UMEX exploration had drilled off one million short tons of 10# copper, zinc in massive sulphides. This property is underlain by the identical rock units to that of the UMEX discovery area, abou, one mile to the southland east. These units consist mainly of rhyolite pyroclastics. Presently, electromagnetic and magnetic surveys are being conducted over the property to further evaluate its economic potential. 4 THE SAVANT LAKE OPTION PATRICIA MINING DIVISION, ONTARIO INTRODUCTION The Savant Lake property consists of 15 unpatented contiguous mining claims of 40 acres each. These claims were staked in January 1978 and recorded on January 23, They lie within the Houghton Lake Area (M2165) in the Patricia Mining Division of Ontario *nd are number as follows i Pa to Pa391ol6 inclusive. These claims are under option to and are recorded under the name of Preussag Canada Limited. The property is located about 7 miles north, north west of Savant Lake, a community on the main line of the Canadian National Rialway in northwestern Ontario. Access is afforded by all weather roads. Highway 599 from Savant Lake to Pickle La.:e crosses an area about 3 miles east of the property. Here a new Provincial Highway connecting 599 to Sioux Lookout traverses the area a mile south of the property. Four miles west of 599 a logging road heads north, the first branch east of which crosses the property in several places. This property was originally staked on reliable information that UMEX, a mineral exploration company had drilled off approximately one million short tons of 10?6 copper, zinc in an area about one mile south, south east of the present property near the west part of claims (M1774). PREVIOUS WORK No previous work has been recorded on these claims. Recently, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Geological Survey released Report 195, Geology of the -2-

5 Houghton-Hough Lakes Area (Savant Lake Area), by W. D. Bond. This is the final report and.map on the area and includes all previously recorded work within the area. TOPOGRAPHY The area is covered by muskeg and swamp (alder, spruce Se c edar) in the south and east. This is also the ^rea of most of the rock outcrop. The remainder of the property is covered by glacial sand and boulders lending a rolling effect to the topography. About 80# of the area has been denuded of trees by the paper industry in 1977, GEOLOGY The geology of the area is illustrated on the appendixed map at a scale of l centimetre to 25 metres. The general geology of the area is well illustrated by the Ontario Geological Survey Map 2424, Houghton-Hough Lakesat jf mile to one inch. The rocks underlying the property consist of rhyolitic tuffs and agglomerates with fragments to 15 centimetres long. The extreme north east is apparently occupied by a band of andesitic volcanic of unknown dimension. Another pillowed band of andesite up to 60 metres wide was mapped within the east central part of the property. A third band, 10 metres wide was mapped off the property in the south and east. A water lain, well bedded rhyolite tuff, "tuffite" was mapped on cross line 480 west at 420 metres north of the base line. The extreme south and west part of the property is underlain by a grey granite (trondhjemite) which was mapped by Bond - et al as the Hough Lake Stect ine above described volcanics are part of a band of acid volcanics to 2 miles thick that extends from Houghton Lake to Willow Lake where it is folded back to the south and west. -3-

6 The rhyolitic rocks which are the predominant rocks of the property are fairly clean and very acidic usually forming low, flat outcrops with a white buff weathered surface. Fragments are generally indistinct and difficult to disinguish. Biotite is peppered throughout and at times bands the rocks. A few outcrops showed porphyritic characteristics. Most of these rocks were mapped as rhyolite pyroclastics. The andesitic rocks in one place were noted to be pillowed but tops could not be determined. They were chlorite and biotite rich. The grey granite of the Hough Lake Stock consisted of low, hummocky outcrops of massive texture medium to course grained with biotite and chlorite mafics. The structural geology of the property is undetermined due to outcrop sparcity but appears to consist of east west shearing and bedding trends close to vertical with some local flexuring. No economic minerals were noted and as such no assay samples were taken. Based on the mapping of the area by the Ontario Geological Survey, the identical rock units that traverse the area of the UMEX discovery underly this property. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS It is concluded that this property is underlain by rocks favourable for housing copper, zinc volcanogenic, massive sulphides. This is enhanced by the location of tue UMEX discovery which will shortly be rained Presently elecromagnetic (Max-Min) and magnetic surveys are being conducted on this property to further evaluate the base metal potential. As such any recommendations for further work will have to await the conclusion of these surveys.
