2 INTRODUCTION This report gives an account of the ground magnetometer and electromagnetic survey work done, as required for the filing of assessment work on eight unpatented mining claims^ which are loc ated in the Summit and Sollas Lake Areas. District of Thunder Bay. The area has been staked during previous "rush times" but there are no indications of any serious prospecting, mapping, or diamond drilling having been done in the past. PROPERTY LOCATION, OWNERSHIP AND ACCESS The claim group consists of eight unpatented raining claims, which are contiguous in the Summit and Sollas Lake^Areas. District of Thunder Bay. The claims are recorded Pa Pa20427# inclusive, and are owned by Fred Koosel, 17SS. Rockwood Avenue, Postal Station "P", Thunder Bay, Ontario. The center of the claim group is located at about 50*23 f 30" N latitude and #7*30* W longitude, approximately eleven miles north of the Canadian National Railway line, and one and one half miles south of Deeds Island in Marshall Lake. The area can be reached by aircraft from Nakina, a distance of thirty-eight miles, or from Jellicoe, a distance of fifty miles. Water access to Marshall Lake is possible via a canoe route from Auden.

GEOPHYSICAL KETHODS AND EQUIPMENT USEL THE MAGNETOMETER SURVEY -l fluxgate ground magnetometer made by E. J. Sharpe Instruments of Cynada Limited was used. The KF-^ fluxgate magnetome&ex has five scale ranges: 1,000; 3.000; 10,000; ; and^qjl^qq-gaeuaas. Sensitivity is 20L. gammas per scale division and readability is 5 gammas on the lowest scale. The magnetometer was adjusted by the latitude setting to j^ad 3QQ^gammas on the base station at diurnal control was taken small negative readings. An was added to all readings after correction of the diurnal differences.

4 Two readings were taken over anor.olies at each station for computation of vertical gradient. This involves the rr.easurer.ent of the magnetic field at two different heights at each survey station. The first reading at a height of three feet and the second just above ground level. Readings plotted on the magnetometer survey plan are those of the three foot height readings taken. EM-16 ELECTROMAGNETIC SUiiVEY An EM-16 electromagnetic unit made by Geonics Ltd. was usea for the survey. Type: EM-16 Designer: Vaino Ronka Primary Field: Horizontal from any selected VLF transmit ting station. Measured Field: Vertical field, in-phase and quadrature components. Accuracy of readings: 1# resolution. Range of Measurement: In-phase 150J& or 90*. Quadrature 40fc. Principle of Operation: The VLF transmitting stations operating for communication with submarines have vertical antennae which create concentric horizontal magnetic fields around them. If these magnetic fields meet conductive bodies in the ground a secondary field radiates from them. EM-16 is built to measure the vertical components of the secondary field radiating from the conductive structures. Field Procedure: Station NAA (located in Cutler. Maine) fjr*equencyl7.skkzwasusedfc. 5 RESULTS OBTAINED AND CONCLUSIONS MAGNETOMETER SURVEY The ground magnetometer sxirvey produced an extensive anomaly running in a K'.1/-SE direction. Using this magnetic data a considerable amount of trenching was done during the slimmer of Banded iron formation was found between line 0+00 and line 20+OOW, north of the base line. This was associated with pyrrhotite, pyrite, minor sphalerite and chalcopyrite. Diorite dikes and sills were recognized by the magnetic lows. A background readingl-of 700 tiq^.000 gammas is normal.for the Marshall Lake ouartailfi Eoaaat^ft^ In contouring the magnetic man,for practical field use, it was blocked into five sectors: 10,000 gammas and over 5,000-10,000 gammas 3,000-5,000 gammas 2,000-3,000 gammas 1,000-2,000 gammas EM-16 ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEY A number of conductors with good in-phase:quadrature ratios have been recognized, indicating massive sulphide or graphite occurences. It should be noted that banded iron formation gives low in-phase quadrature ratios. Results of trenching were as shown above. In the case of conductors that are located close to each other, cross-over points are simulated, and each case must be worked on seperately. Substantial geologic support is needed to permit any concrete geophysical interpretation on the basis of presently available data. Diamond drilling would certainly be advisable.

6 PRELIMINARY GEOLOGY F. F. Langford in "Geology of the Gripp Lake Area" Ontario Department of Tones Volume LXVII Part 3, 195#, describes the general geology as follows: "All the consolidated rocks of the area are of Precambrian age. The dominant rocks are those of the Marshall Lake group, which are composed mainly of quartzite. Interbanded with the quartzite are a few bands of phyllite and iron formation. In conformable contact with the Marshall Lake quartzites are amphibole schists and gneisses, which occupy the southern part of the area. Intruding the schists and gneisses along the border of the area in the south are large masses of syenite and granite. All these rocks have been intruded by a group of diorite, lamprophyre, and hornblendite dikes, which are in turn cut by northstriking diabase dikes. Over the consolidated rocks lie Pliestocene sand and gravel, recent alluvium, and swamp deposits."
