INTRODUCTION A VLF-EM and Magnetometer survey were carried out over one claim covered by the waters of Bear Lake in Mcvittie Township by Phoenix Gold Mines Limited. Lines were chained and picketed on the ice of the lake. II. LOCATION, ACCESS AND OWNERSHIP The property is located in the east central part of Mcvittie Township, District of Timiskaming, Ontario. The claim is numbered L It is recorded in the name of Skead Holdings Ltd., c/o Box 1110, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. 4 The property is located on Bear Lake, midway between the towns of Larder Lake to the west and Virginiatown to the east. The winter take-off point from Highway 66 is 3.3 miles (5.3 km) west of Virginiatown at the south end of Bear Lake. Boats or canoes can be launched from McGarry Beach, located in the northwest corner of claim L2233, during the summer field season. III. PREVIOUS EXPLORATION No exploration is known to have been carried out on the claims prior to their staking. IV. GEOLOGY The claim is entirely covered by water obscuring the geology. From outcrops on land adjacent, the claim is believed underlain by volcanic and sediments of the Timiskaming Series. V.SURVEY PROCEDURE A baseline was laid out on the ice across the widest part of the claim. Cross lines were run at 200-foot intervals perpendicular to the baseline chained and marked at 100-foot intervals.

3 COUEX EXPLORATIONS INC. PAGE NO. Survey Procedure (Continued) Magnetometer readings were taken with a Sharpe MF-1 Fluxgate Magnetometer at 100-foot intervals. The looping method was used for control of variation. In this method a base station is selected, and readings taken along lines describing a loop, arriving back at the starting base station in less than two hours. A second loop is then started using either the same base station or another which is tied to the previous loop. Readings are then corrected for diurnal variation by. assuming the time between readings is the same and distributing any variation equally among the intervening readings. No correction was applied less than the accuracy of the base station readings. A VLF-EM survey was run with a Phoenix VLF-2 instrument set to the signal from Annapolis, Maryland (21.4KHz). Readings were taken at 100-foot intervals along all the lines, using the procedure outlined in Appendix 1. The looping method was used for control of variation as in the magnetometer survey. VI. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS Magnetometer There is a magnetic high area in the south part of the claim with two magnetic depressions in the northern part. VLF-EM A strong conductive area occurs through the south part of the claim centred on the bay of Bear Lake. This is probably due to conductive overburden. Respectfully submitted February 21,1989 R.A. These stations are used for geophysical EM surveying thus eliminating the need for a local trans mitter and permitting one-man operation. To ensure that a station excites the prospec tive conductor, two stations at approximately right angles are used during a survey (see data on back). The choke of 160 frequencies in the range 14.0 to 29.9 khz permits the use of a local EM trans mitter when no suitable regular VLF station is available. The dip angle and amplitude data measured using station NLK In Seattle, Washington, show only a very weak anomaly associated with the two conductive sulphide zones at Cavendish, Ontario. The results obtained using Cutler, Maine reveal a more prominent anomaly, but the best response was obtained using Annapolis, Maryland since the station lies almost due south and the transmitted electromagnetic field Is thus maximum-coupled with the North-South trending conductors. 40*.
