The commission as started y Nicole Wright and director at the Horace Mann Middle School in Franklin hen she discovered that my grandnehe as in her and. The iece as initially to have een for her young layers ut the idea gre to make it the center of the dedication concert at the oening of Franklin s ne high school uilding. Rehearsals of Illumination ere actually the first musical sounds made in their fine ne auditorium. Program note Illumination lighting u ringing light. I am esecially interested in comosing music for young eole that allos them a virant exerience of their on creative energy. Maslanka s music for inds has ecome esecially ell knon. Among his forty-lus orks for ind ensemle and and are Symhonies and 9 telve concertos a Mass and many concert ieces. His ind chamer music includes four ind quintets four saxohone quartets and many orks for solo instrument and iano. In addition he has ritten a variety of orchestral and choral ieces.
