1 ABSTRACT Title of dissertation: X Y Z CHAMBER MUSIC COMPOSITION OR VIOLIN, VIOLONCELLO, DOUBLE BASS, MARIMBA, AND PERCUSSION oshua Davis, Doctor of Musical Arts, 007 Dissertation directed : Professor Thomas DeLio Deartment of Music This ork features multile meters sounding simultaneousl and a harmonic scheme limited to four four-art interval collections Each of the four interval collections sounds alone for several hrases efore moving to another collection and efore later sounding simultaneousl ith another collection The itch content of each interval collections is a maor triad oined one non-triadic itch The index of interval content for each of the four harmonic collections governs consistenc throughout the ork A detailed formal scheme of the entire ork outlining harmon, meter, and densit of melodic activit as created efore secific itches and rhthms ere comosed This scheme alanced the sequence of harmon, meter, and melodic densit ith varing levels of change that reflect duration considerations insired ionnacci's Golden Ratio
