.... SUMMARY AND RECOMNDATIONS - A total of 2919 soil samples have been collected from - this property and of these, Manex Mining collected 543 for pur- poses of detailing anomalies in the westerly area of the claims group, Background is approximately 30 ppm copper in the eastern portion of the grid area and approximately 50 ppm copper in the westerly region, Histograms of the results from the western section of the grid show two prominent peaks common to both the Manex data and the data collected by Mr. D.K. Bragg during The significance of these features is not fully understood. 0 The copper anomaliy outlined in the western area is approximately 2000 feet square within which values range from 8 to 1850 gpm. Values in excess of 100 gpm appear to be significant (see Histograms Fig, 4, 5). Molybdenum values, generally very low, range from 0 to 50 ppm and occur in the southern section of the grid, These may, be related to the Inferred presence of an intrusive body to the south of NElhWitti River. Additional work is required in this area to test these anomalies, The following program is recommended: 1, Through geological considerations a priority should be assigned to the anomalies.
0: 2, This should be followad up by short hole X-ray diamond &illing to test these targets. 3. Provision should be made for deep drilling with a 1-e~ drill if the redsults warrant it. 1,
.,..,..,. ~... '.,. ''$....., GRANEX MIMES LTD. (N.P.L.) OEO~EMICAL SOIL SURVEY.. I OB THE ADD, &OR and.wob.,.. I,......>..( INTRODUCTION This property, consisting of 100 contiguous f ull-sized mineral cia-,, is centered approximately % miles west southwest of Port Hardy, B.C. The B.C. Forest Service access road and numerous branch logging provlde excellent access to most partsof the property. Elevations on the property range from 800 to 2059 feet above sea-level. I%. D.K. Bragg carried out extensive geological and geochemical investigations of the MOR-WOB claim grog during 1968, Geochemically anomalous areas were outlined in the western and northeastern sections of the group. Grana Mines Ltd. (N.P.L.) acquired. the'property during the spring of 1969 to further evaluate these anomalies. Mr. W.M. Sharp, consulting geologist for Grana recom- mended detailed soil sampling in the westerly section of the claim
group and included provision for the follow-up electromagnetic surveys and induced polarization surveys prior to drill sampling. GENERAL GEOLOOY The claim area i8 underlain by Triasslc-Early Jurassic members of the Vancouver Group, locally intruded by various facies of the Jura-Cretaceous Island Intrude complex. The Vancouver Group volcanic-eedimemtary rocks is comprised of the Kamutsen Pormation, Ouatsino Formation and Bonansa Group. The Karmutsen volcanica, consisting mainly of amygdalolda &salts and andesitic lavas, are characterized by extensive epiiote alteration. Thta mateiio Formation typically consists of thickly to thinly bedded grey to black limestone with intercalatlonla of shale and sandstone. The Bonanza Format ion consists of interbedded andesitic tuff88 agglomerates, and argillaceous to limey sediments. The regional strike of the sequence is west northwesterly; dips are mainly southwesterly at low to intermediate angles: Faulting parallel or sub-paralled to the regional trends is probably the major cause OE deformation in the area. * m. D.K. Bragg collected soil samples every 200 feet
-3- from lines approximately 400 feet apart over the complete claim group, More detailed work was required to define the anomalies in the western region, A crew of four men under the supervision ' of Mr, M-J- Eeley SUfVByed, flagged and collected samples from 76,300 'feet of line between September 7th, 1969 and September 2Znd, A total of 543 samples were collected and shipped to Chemex Laboratories, 1416 Crown Street, North Vancouver, B-Co for analyeis for copper and molybdenum. The frequency of sampling along the old linea was 0 increased (100 foot stations) and new lines were laid out between the original lines to decrease the line spacing to 200 feet from 400 feet, Samples were collected by auger where possible or a'ffrom pits dug ts each stration. These samples were collected from the upper "B" horizon where this horizon was visible. The mil I horizons were not well developed in all areas and in auch cases the samples were collected from below the '1A8' horizon to minimize the organic content of each sample, The samples were collected in "Hi Wet Strength Kraft" envelopeer and marked, 4 LABORATORY DETERMINATION METSOD (Chemex taboratories Ltd.) 1, Samples are sorted, recorded and dried at 6OoC.
- 8-0 l 2. Dried samples are normally sieved to -80 mesh with a nylon and stainless steel sieve. Special sieving techniques are used when requested gram of -80 mesh sample fraction is weighed into test tuber and digested with hot 705Q perchloric and concentrated nitkic acid, For silver analysaes a 3 gram sample is used. Samples are digested until all organic material is oxidized (approxbatsly four hours). 4. Digested samples are diluted to 25 ml, volume8 with demineralized HaO an8 mixed thoroughly, Solutions are settled until.clear. 5. Copper, lead, zinc and silver are analyaed In aqueous solution with Techtron A-A-3 Atomic Absorption Unit - Detection limit in soils and stream sediments for copper, lead and zinc is 1 ppm. Detection limit for silver is 0.2 PRm.., e 6, Molybdenum blow 5 ppm is analyaedablor~efxl- cally, with stannous chloride - ammonium thiocyanate procedure and moly Iso-amyl is read on Bausch and L~mb Sgectronlc -40.
. I Detection limit - 1 pgm. Molybdenum *I greater than 5 ppm is analysed by 'atomic absorption'- Btection 2 ppm. C. RESULTS Y inclu4ed in this report for comparative purposes as the recent geochemical investigations were concerned with detailing his original work and extending coverage to the southeat. Values for copper on the property range from 2 ppm to 3700.gpm. Background in the eastern section (Pig. 5) of the.gr1d (ap~roximately 30 ppm) is considerably lower than in the western region (Figs. 4 and 5) (approximately 50 ppm).!l'yo prominent secondary peaks are present in the * Histograms for the western section (Fig. 4). These occur in both the data obtained by Efanex Mining and by Mr. D.K. Bragg in The significance of these peaks 1s not fully understood at preeent, but they indicate reasonable correlation between the Manex Mining data and the Bragg results. The general area of interest t3a outlined by geochemical methods is bounded by lines 62E and 86E and by 45s to 6SS. A substantial portion of this area is covered by the plus 100 ppm copper contour (see Fig. 3). Copper values within this area range from 8 ppm to 1850 ppm.
, The results of the determination for Molybdenum are generally very low ranging from 0 to er high of 50 ppm. There Ps no apparent correlation between these values and-the copper anomalies. It Is noted that the molybdenum values present occur in the'south and may be in part related to the inferred presence of an intrusive body to the south of the claim group.
