INTRODUCTION During September of 1981, Ingamar Explorations Limited of Connaught, Ontario, carried out a magnetometer survey on behalf of Northern Energy Corporation on their property north of Hopper Lake, in the Detour Lake area of northeastern Ontario. The purpose of the work was to locate and define magnetic struc tures which may contain economic auriferous deposits, possibly similar to those which occur in the Amoco-Campbell-Dome mine to the east. Following a description of the property and an analysis of the survey results, recommendations will be made for a more intensive programme of ground surveying and prospecting.

3 2. LOCATION AND ACCESS The property consists of twenty-one (21) unpatented mining claims, numbered /56, 5897/111. The claims are located just north of Hopper Lake and one mile west of Fault Lake, in the Porcupine Mining Division, District of Cochrane. The property is situated approximately 90 miles northeast of Cochrane, with access to the property by aircraft from Cochrane. An all weather road under construction from Cochrane to the Amoco-Campbell-Dome Detour Lake mine will be completed in the fall of 1982, and will pass through the southern most claims on the property (see map overleaf).

SURVEY PARAMETERS 3.1 Linecutting The linecutting was carried out by Ingamar Explorations Limited in September A North-South baseline was esta blished, with East-West crosslines-cut at 0 feet intervals on this baseline, and extended to the boundaries of the pro perty. All lines were chained and picketed at 100 foot intervals. Approximately 16 miles of line were cut, chained and pick eted. 3.2 Magnetic Survey Approximately 16 miles of lines were covered using a flux gate M-700 magnetometer. Station readings were taken at 100 feet intervals on the crosslines and 0 feet intervals on the baseline.

7 4. GENERAL GEOLOGY v The Northern Energy property lies within the Archaean Detour Lake greenstone belt, which is situated on the northwest margin of the Abitibi belt, northeastern Ontario. The Detour Lake belt compri ses a sequence of metavolcanics and sediments with locally deve loped felsic and ultramafic intrusives. The property is located at the hinge area (nose) of an anticlinal fold whose axis trends W.N.W. and plunges N.W. at approximately 45 degrees. It lies on strike with the Amoco-Campbell-Dome Detour Lake Mine, located six miles to the East. At the minesite, gold occurs as primary disseminations (with sulphides), in a cherty tuff horizon, or within quartz stringers in higher horizons. (In the case of the latter, the formation has resulted from remobilisation subsequent to a major fold phase.) It is believed that lower (older) ultramafic extrusives are the source for the gold, but as yet, no such extrusives are known to outcrop in the Detour Lake Area. Structurally, conditions for ore deposition are related to the presence of fractures produced during a major fold phase. Within the hinge area of the anticline, these tensional features would provide a significant control over deposition because of greater deformational strain present at the nose of a fold.

8 Geological data is sparse in the area covered by the Northern pro perty. The O.G.S. O.F.R. 5279, "Geology of the Burntbush-Detour Lakes Area", 1979,(G.W. Johns}and accompanying maps, indicate that the property straddles a contact between greenstone (undifferentiated metavolcanics?) and a granitic pluton. Potential gold showings may exist in the form of gold bearing quartz veins within both lithologies, with the contact zone being a highly favourable area for the deposition of late-stage aurife rous fluids formed a) remobilisation following a major fold episode or b) the intrusion of the large felsic body to the south.

11 5. INSTRUMENTATION A McPhar M700 vertical field magnetometer was used to survey the Northern Energy property. The instrument employs the fluxgate principle, which effectively cancels the earth's field by means of a self-cancelling system which operates at all times to main tain a zero flux condition. The change in the earth's magnetic field is calibrated in gammas, providing a direct measurement. Correction of the data for drift was done by re-occupying esta blished base stations periodically during the survey. Instrument specifications are given in the Appendix.

12 6. INTERPRETATION The survey has revealed the presence of several magnetic ridges which trend approximately N.W.-S.E. over the central and northern areas, and N.-S. in the N.E. of the property. The granite-meta- volcanic contact is represented by the strong demarcation line situated around Line +OOS. To the south of this line, the mag netic contours outline isolate bodies of low magnetic intensity, with steel gradients on all sides. This is indicative of felsic plutons or a single intrusive feature. The demarcation also indi cates a northerly dip of the intrusive beneath the greenstone at a relatively high angle. An economic gold deposit would probably be located in massive or disseminated sulphides and these would show as areas of high mag netic content on the anomaly map. Several ridges have been out lined, with these representing either narrow steeply dipping zones concordant with the country rock, or disseminated sulphides in shear zones. The latter either parallel or cross-cut the metavol- canics at a low angle. Such shears have probably formed subse quent to a major fold phase, possibly that which produced the N.W.-S.E. trending anticline whose hinge is located within the Nor thern Energy property. f It should be noted that the prominent E.-W. magnetic trend shown on the map is probably etroneous, with deflection from true

13 10 trend (N.W.-S.E. over central and northern areas) resulting from a magnetic storm. Consequently, a careful examination of magnetic highs hidden by this "overprinting" is necessary to avoid misinter pretation.

14 % RECOMMENDATIONS t In order to delineate more precisely possible gold-bearing zones, it is recommended that a follow-up surveying programme be initiated. This should consist of an E.M. (V.L.F.-16 and I.P.) survey and a proton magnetometer survey. Correlation of these two E.M. surveys would yield mineral conductive zones, whilst a magnetic survey would indicate a possible gold-sulphide association where E.M. and magnetometer anomalies are coincident. This association occurs at the Detour Lake minesite situated six miles to the East. Because of the overburden in the area, a programme of overburden drilling or geochemical sampling may provide an indicator to auri ferous horizons beneath the glacial cover. 21 Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Notice of Intent for Technical Reports An examination of your survey report indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on his record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged. If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application. If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded. If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked.
