INTRODUCTION 42A12NE LOVELAND 010 The Byers prperty, situated 22 miles nrthwest f Timmins, cmprises 47 claims wned loo/s by Cminc Ltd. Early in 1975, a magnetmeter survey was carried ut n mst f the 47 claims f the grup with lines every 200' apart n the central part and lines every 400' apart n the nrthern and suthern part. Statin interval was 50 feet. Lcatin f this grid is given n plate 1. Plate 2 shws the lcatin f lines established and used fr the magnetmeter survey while plate 3 shws the magnetic data which has been cntured at 100 gamma intervals. Plate 4 shws the gelgy cmpiled frm expsures f the area. 2. INTERPRETATION -- ~ " -.nil m.-w nrm-i- f A. Reginal setting (M. Delpierre, 1972) The area is underlain by a tightly flded sequence f Archean metavlcanic rcks (intermediate t felsic in cmpsitin) intruded in the,, east and suth by granite and bth subsequently intruded by nrth-suth trending diabase dykes which result in tpgraphical highs in the western and eastern parts f the prperty. The vlcanic rcks adjacent t the granite are heavily intruded by granite dykes varying in width frm inches t 50 feet r mre. Testing the anmaly "B", a gabbric bdy, pssibly a sill, was intersected in the 1972 drilling prgramme. Chalcpyrite and pyrrhtite mineralizatin was inter sected in that gabbric bdy. Faulting is present in the area and a number f majr fault znes were recgnized in the brehle.'.. N crrelatin can be made at this pint beynd what is shwn n the brehle sectins. The faults appear t be steeply dipping and have a NW- SE strike. B. Rck Types: (Oldest t yungest) i. Acidic Vlcanic: Generally grey, fine grained rck cmpsed f quartz (SO-60%), feldspar (20-30%), bitite ( 107,) and minr carbnate and sericite. Quartzitic veins f randm rientatin have a cream cluratin; minr amunts f sulphide generally ccur as pyrite and pyrrhtite; very few feldspar prphyries are develped.

2 -2- ii. Andesite Generally greenish grey t darker grey in clur, chlritic - in parts highly chlritic, with bitite and frequent epidtized and feldspathized znes. Occasinal garnets (almandite) are present as subhedral crystals. Thin calcite veins ccur with ccasinal vugs. Blebs and stringers f pyrr htite (prbably rembilized t a greater r lesser extent) paralleling the fliatin planes were intersected in a number f hles, specifically in BS, B9, B12 and B19. Chalcpyrite is generally absent. Frequently intersected is a chlritized feldspathic andesite prphry. Megascpically it is a light grey-green rck with white t cream, irregular feldspathic masses (prbably anhedral crystal aggregates). Thin sectins shw that these irregular aggregates are highly chlritized feldspar phencrysts in an ligclase-andesine matrix with up t 5% bitite and very minr quartz. iii. Znes f subvlcanic intrusives, mstly prphyritic, ccur in the vlcanic rcks. Feldspar phencrysts have a cmpsitin between ligclase and and esine, similar t that f the grundmass. Silicificatin ccurred in these units when in clse prximity t granite intrusive dykes. Chlritizatin is cmmn and fairly extensive in part. iv. Mineralized 'Fracture' Breccias" A number f 'fracture* breccias were intersected. These cnsist essentially f fractured hst rck - andesite - with heavy chlrite alteratin alng the fracture planes; usually the alteratin is abut 2" wide with varying percentage f sulphides. Quartz fragments are usually present. Sulphides are thught t be hydrthermal/rembilized, indicated by the carse grained nature f the pyrrhtite and pyrite. Indicatins are that znes f andesites were fractured during reginal metamrphism and that during the intrusin f the granite with assciated metamrphism and metasmatism, a cmbined prcess f hydrthermal intr ductin f sulphides and quartz with rembilizatin f disseminated sul phides within the andesites prbably tk place, resulting in massive t disseminated sulphide lenses within this chlrite-rich 'matrix' surrunding relatively unaltered andesite 'fragments'. These breccias are definately nt f vlcanic rigin and are suspected t be very restricted in extent,- v. Hrnblende Gabbr-Dirite; Green-grey t dark green-grey, generally medium grained with fine and carse grained phases, it cntains sulphides in amunt varying frm almst absent t massive. The mineral cmpsitin is Labradrite-Bytwnite feld spar, largely altered t chlrite and minr sericite; hrnblende is the sle amphible. In the mre diritic varieties minr quartz is present. The sulphides are pyrrhtite with minr pentlandite and chalcpyrite. It appears that they are f magmatic rigin, althugh rembilizatin t varying extent is present. Carbnates are usually present in minr amunts as blebs and thin veins. In ne thin sectin it appears that the sulphides have re placed sme f the feldspar. vi. Granite; Light grey t medium grey with minr green and pink cluratin, generally medium t carse grained with ccasinal fine grained and pegmatitic phases. The mineral cmpsitin is: Feldspar S, Quartz 30-4(^, with minr chlrite and bitite. Numerus granite dykes f varying thicknesses were intersected in the brehles. vii. Diabase Green-grey t dark grey-black, fine t medium grained. The mineral cmpsi tin is: Feldspar 60-70X, Pyrxene 4(^, with very minr sulphides. 4. Interpretatin f magnetic survey. It shuld be nted first that the areas cvered by these magnetic surveys are largely verlain by glacial tills and as such, utcrp is very scarce. ^

3 3- Variatins in the magnetic field bserved in magnetic surveys near the earth's surface are largely due t changes in the magnitude f induced magnetism in different rck types. Changes in the chemical cmpsitin f ferrmagnetic minerals will cause variatins in magnetic susceptibility. Magnetite is the mst cmmn ferrmagnetic mineral in rcks and therefre cntributes the mst t magnetic susceptibility f rcks. The magnetic highs lcated by the survey indicate rck units in the underlying Precambrian cntaining higher quantities f magnetite and, as such, reflect mre basic units f either vlcanic r igneus rigin. On the magnetic maps, the diabase dykes are easily identified as lng, narrw, nrth trending anmalies having magnetic intensities f 500 t 1000 gammas abve backgrund. Changes in the trends f dikes may reflect shear znes r presence f gelgical cntacts. The magnetic data suggest by the rund anmaly that a mafic r ultramafic rck may ccur n the suthern part f the claim grup, clse t the Byers Lveland Twnship Line. The lw intensity anmalies in the rder f 450 t 650 gammas are believed t be the expressin f intermediate t mafic metavlcanics. 5. NCLUSION On the whle, the magnetic prperties f the mafic and felsic meta vlcanics in the area are almst identical, resulting in a lw magnetic susceptibility cntrast be tween these rcks. Adding t this, numerus diabase dykes striking nrth t N25W and cutting all ther rck types in the area make the interpretatin f the magnetic data - very difficult. 6.
