The prperty is underlain by Grenville-age, greenish-grey clured metacnglmerate, which displays an attractive pattern. T determine the ptential f the rck fr use as a building stne, Palu-Crbelli Crpratin cnducted a preliminary evaluatin prgramme cnsisting f a rck cut. This Reprt describes the wrk that was undertaken t prduce this cut. Lcatin and Access - Claim blck SO cnsists f 2 claim units cvering the SW^ f Lt 16, Cne.7, Kaladar Twp., Suthern Ontari Mining Divisin, The prperty is lcated 3.5 kms. NNW f the village f Kaladar, and abut 50 kms. NNW f the city f Napanee. The prperty is easily reached by Highway 41, frm its intersectin with Highway 7 in Kaladar, r frm its intersectin with Highway 401 in Napanee. Highway 41 passes thrugh the eastern half f the claim blck. Figure I shws the general lcatin f the prperty. Figure II shws the lcatin f the claim blck in Kaladar Twp., and the lcatin f the wrk site relative t the claim bundaries. General Gelgy - The prperty is underlain by Grenville-age metasediments which trend in a general NE-SW directin, and dip t the SE. The main rck unit is a greenish-grey clured metacnglmerate. Pebbles and cbbles within the metacnglmerate are quartzitic, r ccasinally granitic, in cmpsitin, and have been stretched s that their lng axes are parallel t the general fliatin and gneisssity f the area. The clasts vary in length frm several centimeters t several tens f centimeters, and are up t 10 centimeters wide. The matrix cnsists f dark grey clured quartzite and/r greywacke. Pinkish r cream-clured pegmatite dykes and dykelets cmmnly dissect the metacnglmerate. They range up t 3 meters in width, and are irregular, but appear t favur a general NW-SE strike directin. In the NW crner f the prperty, the metacnglmerate is in gradatinal cntact with granite gneiss.

6 - 4 - Bedrck Open Cut - As part f a preliminary evaluatin prgramme t determine whether large blcks f stne culd be extracted intact frm the metacnglmerate unit, a cut was made int the NW side f a prminent rck ridge. In rder t maintain the integrity f the blck, the flr and face f the cut were made by drilling clse-spaced, parallel hrizntal and vertical hles, respectively, and the 2 walls f the cut were made with a diamnd wire saw. Figure III shws Plan and Sectinal views f the cut. The cut extends apprximately 20 meters int the rck ridge. It was started in the year 2000, at which time it was driven 12 m. The remaining 8 m, which is the subject f this Reprt, were undertaken between Octber 4-23, Frm the face f the pre-existing cut, a set f parallel, hrizntal hles were drilled at 15 cm intervals alng the flr, each t a depth f 8 m. A secnd set f parallel hles were then drilled vertically t a depth f 8 m alng a line at the ends f the first set f hles, t eventually frm the new face f the cut. The 2 sets f hles were riented such that the ends f the hrizntal set just met the ends f the vertical set. All f the hles were 3 cm in diameter. A ttal f 136 hles were drilled, fr a ttal cumulative length f 1,088 m. A diamnd wire saw was then threaded thrugh the 2 end hles f each f the 2 sets, and vertical cuts were made int the ridge, frming the walls f the cut. Feather wedges were driven int the vertical hles, and small charges f dynamite were distributed int the hrizntal hles, and simultaneusly detnated, in rder t extract the defined blck f rck intact. Intersecting sets f bedding planes and crss-cutting fractures resulted in a 2.4 x 0.9 m blck remaining attached t bedrck at the crner f the flr and the new face. Cnclusins - The wrk prgramme successfully remved several large blcks f the metacnglmerate, hwever nne f them met the targeted size f 10 x 8 x 8 m. Bedding planes and fractures inherent t the metacnglmerate were bserved in the cut, and they appear t cntrl the size f extractable blcks. The cut shuld be enlarged, bth deeper and laterally, t investigate the frequency and distributin f these bedding planes and fractures. i- 1 Nvember 12, 2004.A.C
