3 Wrk Prgramme Sheffield Building Stne Prperty, Sheffield Twp. Intrductin - A prgramme f verburden stripping, bedrck trenching, and pen cutting was cnducted by Senatr Stne Supply Limited in 1999 n a building stne prspect in Sheffield Twnship, Suthern Ontari Mining Divisin. Prperty - The prperty cnsists f 2 claim blcks, numbered SO and SO SO cnsists f claim units, and it cvers Lts 25 and 26 in Cncessin V, and the east halves f Lts 25 and 26 in Cncessin IV. SO csists f 5.15 claim units, and it cvers Lt 27 in Cncessin V. Bth claim blcks have a due date f March 11, Lcatin and Access - The prperty is lcated in nrth central Sheffield Twnship, n the east side f Highway 41, between Melln Lake t the sutheast, and Mitten and Dnahue Lakes t the nrthwest. The city f Napanee lies apprximately 35 kilmeters t the suth-sutheast, at the junctin f Highway 41 and Highway 401. The village f Kaladar lies abut 10 kilmeters t the nrth, at the junctin f Highways 41 and 7. Figure I shws the general lcatin f the prperty in suthern Ont. Figure II shws the lcatin f the prperty in Sheffield Twnship, and the lcatin f the wrk site relative t the claim bundaries. The prperty is easily reached via Highway 41, which passes thrugh its nrthwest crner. A 450 meter-lng access rad has been built frm Highway 41 eastwards and nrthwards t the wrk site. General Gelgy - The prperty is underlain mainly by migmatitic gneisses f the Melln Lake Grup. These gneisses are tnalitic t grandiritic in cmpsitin. Field evidence (Bright, 1986) suggests that the Melln Lake Cmplex rcks are Precambrian in age, and lder than nearby Grenville Supergrup rcks, hwever, radimetric dating (U-Pb zircn) suggests that the Cmplex is yunger than the Grenville Supergrup. The gneisses are relatively hmgeneus, medium t carse grained, pink-clured, fliated rcks. Cmpsitinal and textural layering is present n centimeter t meter scale. Gneisssity trends in a general NE-SW directin, and dips variably frm 70 SE t 65 NW. The gneisses cnsist mainly f feldspar (e-70%), quartz (20-30*1), bitite ( !), and hrnblende ( ±5Z), with accessry magnetite and titanite.

5 Overburden Stripping - Stripping was cnducted primarily by mechanical means. A Case 320 excavatr and a Cat D6 dzer were emplyed. Hand shvelling, and washing with a high pressure water pump was als undertaken. Overburden up t a thickness f 0.6 meter was remved t expse a rck surface f abut 60 meters by 80 meters in size. Bedrck Trenching and Open Cutting - The nrtheastern nse f the expsed rck surface was trenched and cut. The trenching was perfrmed as a preparatry step t the pen cut. The cut was undertaken t determine whether large blcks f stne culd be quarried frm the site, and als t btain samples f the stne fr cutting and plishing, t determine its ptential marketability. Tw blck-cutter drills were emplyed, t facilitate the precise alignment and drilling f parallel hles. The rectangular stne blcks s utlined by the parallel hles were severed frm the rck utcrp by wedging.
