KARVINEN fc Assciates Ltd. carried ut a systematic gelgical survey f the Asian mining prperty in the Timmins area f Nrthern Ontari, The field wrk was dne by the writer. Lcatin cntrl was prvided by a cut survey grid with crss lines spaced at ^00 ft. intervals. Purpse f the survey was t map ut the varius types f bedrck, t identify any bvius alteratin znes related t mineralizatin and t examine knwn shwings n the prperty. Lcatin and Access The Asian prperty is lcated in Rbb and Jamiesn twnships, near Kamisktia Lake, abut 15 miles nrtheast f Timmins, Ontari (Fig.l). The west bundary f the prperty is Just east f highway 576; a partly accessible bush rad cuts acrss the central part f the claims. Prperty Descriptin The Asian prperty cmprises 19 cntiquus unpatented mining claims numbered P85M53 t P85W1 inclusive; P85MH63 t P inclusive (Fig.2). They are registered in the name f Asian Resurces/Develpment Limited f Oshawa, Ontari. Previus Wrk The mst recent wrk n the prperty was a ttal field magnetmeter survey in Dec and a limited basal till sampling prgram in Nv The wrk was dne by W.O. KARVINEN tt Assciates Ltd. fr Glry Mining and Refining Ltd. wh wned the grund at the time. Results f the magnetmeter survey were used t gain sme infrmatin n the bedrck gelgy, while the

6 2. till survey indicated a patchy distributin f ldgement till, mainly in bedrck depressins. Gld analysis f the tills indicate sme anmalus areas in ne sectin f the crss-ice sampling line. Overburden depths alng the line range frm O t 50 feet with the'average being 21 feet. The prperty has been held by varius cmpanies and individuals in the past, but mst f the explratin wrk has been directed twards lcating base metal mineralizatin). Prir t 1982, assessment wrk has been submitted by three different wners n varius parts f the prperty. These are Canadian Lencurt (Allerstn ptin) (1966), Mespi Mines Ltd. (1966), and Falcnbridge Nickel Mines Ltd. (Allerstn ptin) (1971). Of these the wrk by Canadian Lencurt and Falcnbridge have been mst extensive. Their grids cvered mst f the grup. Grund electrmagnetic, magnetic, and gelgic surveys were carried ut n these grids and tw diamnd drill hles t test cnductrs were cmpleted. N significant mineralizatin was encuntered. Mespi als carried ut an EM and magnetmeter survey n parts f the present prperty. Reginal Setting The prperty is situated in the Kamisktia vlcanic cmplex which is nted fr its base metal ptential. It lies between tw past Cu-Zn prducers in the area, the Kamisktia Mine t the nrth and the Jamiesn Mine t the suth. Althugh a number f gld ccurrences are knwn in Rbb and Jamiesn twnships, n cmmercial depsit has been fund. The nearest gld depsits are at the large Prcupine Camp in Timmins, abut 12 miles t the east, where ver 55 millin unces have been prduced frm cntinuus mining dating back t 1910.

Lcal Gelgy The immediate area f the claims is underlain by Archean thleiitic vlcanics with minr kmatiites and andesites which may crrelate with the gld-bearing kmatiites f the Lwer Tisdale Grup in Timmins. These are intruded by gabbric rcks as well as by high-level, quartz-feldspar prphyries. Immediately t the suth and west f the prperty are thick sequences f calc-alkaline felsic vlcanics. The rcks have been metamrphsed under greenschist cnditins and shw evidence f penetrative defrmatin. The prperty cvers a bedrck tpgraphic high which is expsed in sme large utcrp areas n the suth side but n the whle it is cvered by a blanket f glacifluvial sediments and till. Because f its lcatin in the Kamisktia delta cmplex, it is quite prbable that significant amunts f pre-existing tills were erded by melt waters, this is evident frm the preliminary till survey which indicated abut 221 f the 78 hles drilled t have gd till. Till is expected t be preserved in the lees f bedrck high and in sme bedrck depressins. Bedrck Gelgy Bedrck n the claims cnsists f three main types: mafic vlcanics, mafic/intermediate intrusives and diabase. Mafic Vlcanics; flws f vlcanic rck underly the nrthern part f the prperty. These cnsist f prly-develped pillws, massive fine grained mafic rck, pillw breccia and flw-tp breccia. Interflw tuff members are generally absent r very thin. The cmpsitin f the vlcanics

8 4. is nt knwn, but based n reginal gvernment maps, they are prbably thleiitic. The pillws are prly develped and thus n definite tp directins culd be determined. Primary cmpsitinal layering trends abut 150 t 165 azm. and dip steeply. Mafic/Intermediate Intrusive; these rcks belng t a large mafic/intermediate intrusin knwn lcally as the Kamisktia intrusive cmplex. On the whle, this cmplex is gabbric, but n the Asian prperty which verlies its nrthern cntact, the rcks are dirites, quartz dirites and quartz-feldspar prphyries. (Mapping by Lyns (1971) fr Falcnbridge identified these rcks as gabbrs, hwever, bth that wrk and the terms used here are based nly n hand specimen examinatin and nt n chemical analyses.) On the suth side f the claims where several large utcrp areas ccur, it is evident that the cmpsitin changes frm a dirite t quartz dirite t quartz-feldspar prphyry in a easterly directin. The dirite and quartz dirite are very similar in appearence and are intimately mixed in places. These rcks cnsist f abut 15 t 455C hrnblende (nw altered nearly 100J t chlrite), anhedral grains f white and gray plagiclase and varying amunts f quartz. Where quartz exceeds *\01,, the rck has been mapped as a quartz dirite. These rcks are equigranular, medium grained and massive. They weather t a dark clr and n fresh surface the subhedral hrnblende grains are cnspicius against a.light-gray backgrund. The utcrps are smth but blcky due t prminent jinting.

9 5. The quartz-feldspar prphyry is light clred n the weathered utcrp and n fresh surfaces has a distinct pink clr. It cnsists mainly f quartz (20-50SC), white and pink feldspars {plagclase and prbably K- feldspar) and lesser amunts f chlrite (1-75&). The texture is generally prphyritic due t subhedral grains f feldspar, althugh in many places the rck is equigranular and fine- t medium-grained. Lyns (1971) presents evidence t suggest that the quartz-feldspar prphyry is intrusive int the dirites (his gabbrs), hwever, the present survey turned up n evidence t substantiate this cnclusin. All that is certain is that the dirites and prphyry are intrusive int the mafic vlcanics as evidenced by the presence f blcks and rafts f the latter in the intrusive rcks and by ther cntact features (e.g. dikes). Diabase; nrth-trending dikes f mafic rck ranging in width frm a few feet t abut 100 feet are cmmn n the prperty. These rcks are generally fine t medium-grained and massive, but in places cntain large clts f cream-clred plagiclase (lepard rck). Because they are slightly mre magnetic than the ther rks, they can be mapped ut with the assistence f a detailed magentic survey. Alteratin; althugh alteratin mineral assemblages (sericite, carbnates, quartz) cmmnly assciated with hydrthermal gld mineralizatin are fund assciated with quartz-feldspar prphyries in the area, n such alteratin was fund n the utcrps f the Asian prperty. This may be mstly due t the lack f expsure, especially alng the intrusive cntact where such alteratin is expected.

10 6. The mst evident alteratin in the intrusive rks is pervasive chlritizatin, particularly in the dirite. This may be deuteric, but the intensity f the alteratin suggests cncentrated hydrthermal activity. N bvius hydrthermal alteratin is evident in the few utcrps f mafic vlcanics. Mineralizatin Past prspecting n the prperty is bvius by the presence f pits and trenches in quartz veins r sulfide-bearing rcks. All f these are within the mafic vlcanics. Mst are cncentratins f irn and cpper sulfides (pyrite, pyrrhtite and chalcpyrite) up t 20J in vlcanic interflw breccia. The nly quartz vein with sme past wrk is lcated at abut 72E n the base line. Here, very ld (1930's?) pits and trenches have been sunk t abut 6 t 8 ft. deep alng a nrtheast-trending quartz vein. The vein appears t cnsists mainly f bullish white quartz with disseminated pyrite and pyrrhtite near inclusins and alng walls. The three main sulfide shwings n which there are pits were sampled by Falcnbridge in Their results indicate cncentratins f cpper and zinc in the range f. 011 ( lyns, 1971). N precius metal analyses are reprted frm the prperty and nne were made during the present survey. Cnclusins The gelgic setting f the prperty as mapped ut indicates the best ptential fr the discvery f ecnmic mineralizatin t exist in the cntact zne f the quartz-feldspar prphyry and in the adjining vlcanics

11 7. t the nrth. Unfrtunately these parts are mstly cvered with glacial sediments. Recmmendatins The areas f ptential shuld be cvered with systematic surveys t delineate targets. A fllw-up t sme f the earlier basal till gechemistry wuld be helpful alng with sme gephysical wrk which culd identify znes f ptential mineralizatin. Dr. William 0. Karvinen
