3 JAMES E. TILSLEY ft ASSCIATES LTD. SUMMARY AND CNCLUSINS Magnetic surveying f the Midway Mines S Energy Crp. Street Twnship prperty was cpleted at the end f July, iles f prfile lines were cut and chained. The base line is 0.75 iles lng, and tw tie lines f 3800' each add a further 0.72 ines fr a ttal f iles f line. Statin interval was 25 feet agnetic deterinatins were ade, se sectins f the grid being inaccessible due t water at the tie f surveying. The data serve t cnfir the airbrne agnetic results in clai S , and that the agnetic expressin is cincident with a cnductive feature which was als indicated by the 1984 airbrne survey. There is n utcrp alng the axis f the analy, preventing deterinatin f the cause by surface bservatin. An apparently tabular agnetic bdy is indicated in the nrth half f clai S The bdy appears t dip t the suth but is nt identified at surface, pssibly because f verburden cver. The results f the agnetic survey ust be cnsidered alng with electragnetic, gelgical and gecheical data presently being generated. Further detailed agnetic surveying in the area f the analy in clai S will be dne t assist in lcatin f diand drill hles t test the zne at depth beneath the verburden.

4 JAMES E. TILSLEY ft ASSCIATES LTD. INTRDUCTIN Midway Mines Se Energy Crp. hlds a grup f six ining clais lcated in the suthwest crner f Street twnship, Sudbury Mining Divisin, ntari. The clais lie east f the eastern liit f the Sudbury Basin, within ne ile f the Grenville Frnt Bundary Fault. The prperty is underlain by sedientary rcks f Hurnian Age that have been intruded by Nipissing gabbr bdies. The sedients within the sutheastern crner f the prperty are apped as Serpent Fratin arkses and wackes, with cngler ate and pebbly wacke. The nrthwestern part f the clai grup is underlain by wackes f the Gwganda Fratin. n the prperty the tw sedientary fratins are separated by a bdy f Nipissing gabbr that traverses the clais in a nrtheasterly directin. The clais were staked t cver a cnductive feature with cincident agnetic expressin that appears t lie in sedients near the nrth cntact with the Nipissing gabbr. The cincident cnductivity and agnetic analies were detected by airbrne gephysical surveying dne in late 1984 and have nt been tested by trenching,r diand drilling. Explratin f the clais with special ephasis n the area f the gephysical analies indicated by the airbrne survey is currently in prgress. The agneteter survey reprted herein is part f the evaluatin prgra.

The six clais lie in the suthwestern crner f the twnship between the bundary with Falcnbridge twnship and the Wanapitei River, abut ne ile nrth f the cn suth crner pst. Apprxiate c-rdinates: ' 00" N; ' 00" W: The clai grups can be reached fr Sudbury Airprt in abut three quarters f an hur via Highway 17 East t the Awrey - Dryden twnship line, then nrth apprxiately ne ile t the Wanapitei River n the first gravel rad abut ne half ile past the twnship line. The clais can be reached by bat n the Wanapitei River fr the White Birch Cap, where bats and trs are available fr hire. The eastern bundary f the clais lies abut 500 feet inland fr the first west bay n the Wanapitea River, abut ne and ne half iles upstrea fr the White Birch Cap. The clais can als be reached by bush rad fr Dryden and Falcnbridge twnships. The last three iles f these rads are passible t snwbiles in winter and all-terraine vehicles in suer. With derate repair t the existing trails, access t the western part f the prperty can be prvided fr light trucks.

6 JAMES E. TILSLEY ft ASSCIATES LTD. CLIMATE The area has a cntinental cliate typical f central Canada. Precipitatin ttals apprxiately 34 inches (863) per annu, relatively well spread thrughut the year. Snw accuulatins f 700 t 1300 are frequently bserved in average winters, with first significant falls in late ctber r early Nveber. Cntinuus cver can be expected fr early Deceber until id-april in st years. Suer-tie axiu teperatures ay exceed 30 0 Celcius and winter inius in the range f C are nt uncn in January and February. Mean suer axius are apprxiately 23 0 Celcius and ean suer inius abut 12 0 C. Winter ean axius are in the range f -7 0 C and ean inius C. TPGRAPHY Lake Wanapitei has an elevatin f 269 (882 1 ) abve sea level. There is a pwer da n the Wanapitei River at Tiins Chute abut tw and ne half iles suthwest f the clais. This has created an epundent that has an elevatin f apprxiately 837' r 255 abve sea level. Within the suth western crner f Street Twnship the land rises t apprxiately 290 t 300 {950 1 t 1000'). In general, the surface is rlling, with ccasinal abrupt hillcks f bedrck that fr lw cliffs. Relief is usually less than 30 (100 1 ). There are se lw-lying swapy areas but

7 JAMES E. TILSLEY ft ASSCIATES LTD. the greater part f the land in the suthwestern crner f the Twnship is relatively dry. Drainage fr the western part f the prperty is t the west via the east branch f Eery Creek. The eastern clais drain t the Wanapitei River. There are n peranent lakes within the prperty bundaries, althugh a prtin f a tributary f the east branch f Eery Creek n the western bundary f the grup has been daed by beavers s cnsistently that it is shwn n the tpgraphic sheet as a sall lake. During the past year there has been n significant aunt f water in that pnd, and it appeared that it had been recently drained. The tributary and swap lcated at the nrthwest crner f the prperty is currently exper iencing beaver activity and is partially flded. LCAL RESURCES Sudbury is a city with a ppulatin f apprxiately ne hundred and sixty thusand. There is a lng histry f ining and selting with a skilled wrk frce in bth ining and related supprt functins. Men, equipent, supplies, and services are all available lcally. Medical facilities are excellent, with several clinics and hspitals in the city. There is very gd rail, highway, and air transprtatin t suthern ntari and pints east and west f Sudbury.

8 JAMES E. TILSLEY St ASSCIATES LTD. The clais are frested with secnd grwth birch and pplar, with alders and willws in the lw grund t the west f the clai grup. There are rare ature red and white pines, but there is n significant quantity f erchantable tiber n the prperty. The birch and pplar are generally less than 6" in diaeter. Grwth is derately pen n the high grund. Sall spruce and balsa fir are ccasinally present in yung thickets near dap grund. The frest cver n the clais was burned in the last thirty years, but a reasnable frest ull layer reains. Industrial pwer is nw available within tw iles f the prperty fr ajr transissin lines that parallel the Trans Canada Highway. Telecunicatins are pssible fr lcatins n the Trans Canada Highway just suth f the Wanapitei River. PRPERTY The prperties cnsist f a grup f six ining clais, lcated in the suthwest crner f Street twnship, between the Wanapitei River and the bundary with Falcnbridge Twnship. SURFACE RIGHTS the The clais cver Crwn Lands, standard regulatins. use f which is gverned by HISTRY The ineral ptential f the Sudbury area was first indicated in 1856 during surveying fr subdivisin f nrth eastern ntari. The discvery was brught t the attentin f Alexander Murray wh was apping in the area fr the Gelgical Survey f Canada, but it was nt until 1883 when the railway reached the area that develpent began at the Murray Mine. The first prductin f re fr the area was in 1886 fr the Cpper Cliff Mine. The res were thught t cntain nly cpper until selting difficultes resulted in test wrk that identified nickel t be present in apprxiately equal aunts. Sudbury becae the prie surce f the wrld's nickel supply and aintained that psitin until after Wrld War II. Cpper has been the st iprtant c-prduct f the Sudbury res thrugh the years. In additin, the Sudbury nickel-cpper res currently prvide sufficient platinu grup etals t aintain Canada as the third largest prducer. utside the Sudbury Basin prper, in the Hurnian sedients, and in additin t ineralizatin assciated with the Sudbury Event-related ffset dykes, the etal f st interest has been gld. Gld

10 JAMES E. TILSLEY dt ASSCIATES LTD. was first discvered in the area east f the Sudbury Basin during the surveying that was indirectly respnsible fr discvery f the cpper-nickel res within the basin. The literature suggests that the first discveries were ade in the late 1800s, cncurrent with cpper-nickel discveries. In the area east f the basin and suth f Lake Wanapitei gld ineralizatin is hsted by Hurnian sedients and Nipissing gabbr. The nearest significant depsits are lcated in Falcnbridge twnship (Falcn Mine) and in Scadding twnship {rfin Resurces Liited, Scadding Mine). Prir t the wrk reprted herein, there is n recrd f results f explratin wrk n the Midway Mines S Energy Crp. clai grup, ther than the grund being included in airbrne gephysical cverage, (agnetic and electragnetic surveys in 1956) and the re recent airbrne agnetic and electragnetic surveys cpleted in early Deceber, Line cutting was cpleted n the clais in the fall f 1987, and the agnetic surveys were dne between April and August, The agnetic survey being reprted is part f a gelgical, gephysical, and gecheical study f the clai grup, currently in prgress. A large bdy f Nipissing gabbr extends fr the sutheast crner f Street twnship nrtheasterly t the Wanapitei River. The cntact f the gabbr passes thrugh the clai grup in a nrtheasterly directin. Apprxiately 25% f the prperty appears t be underlain by gabbr. The cntact relatinships between the sedientary rcks and the intrusive gabbr are nt well knwn. The Nipissing gabbr is present in the area as bth flat lying and nearly vertical dikes. Apprxiately 20!* f the prperty has rck expsure. The verburden elsewhere des nt appear t be re than tw eters deep, excepting in swales and under swapy areas. The detailed relatinship between the sedients and the Nipissing gabbr appear t be sewhat re cplicated than shwn n the reginal aps, and will require clse bservatin alng cntrl lines. The clais lie between the Nrduna Fault, n the nrtheast, and the Bailey Crners Fault, t the suthwest. Bth f these nrthwest-trending dislcatins terinate against the Grenville Frnt Bundary Fault, abut ne ile sutheast f the prperty. The syste includes a slid state ery in which easureents are stred in ASCII 7 bit, n parity frat. Data retrieval is by RS-232C serial interface t digital printer, de, icrcputer, r cassette tape recrder. Bth the IGS-2 field unit and the agnetic base statin have slid state eries expanded t 48 kilbytes. This perits recrding data fr up t 800 field statins befre data dup is required. If practice, the battery pwer supply fr the field unit usually prves inadequate befre the internal ery is filled. The agnetic base statin is usually perated by an auttive 12 vlt battery, and rarely experienced pwer prbles. The expanded ery allws agnetic field easure ents t be recrded each tw r three secnds fr cntinuus perids f ten t twelve hurs. The field agnetic data were icrprcessr crrected fr diurnal variatin using a pre-prgraed rutine resident in the ery f the IGS-2 field unit referenced t cntinuus agnetic recrds btained by a MP-3 prtn agneteter perating in base statin de, tie syncrnized with the IGS-2/MP-4 field unit. At the end f each field day during the surveys, all data were recvered in hard cpy n a dt atrix digital printer. When hard cpy had been btained and verified, the slid state 10

The agnetic base statin was set up n the shre f the west bay fr the Wanapitei River abut 500 feet east f the sutheast crner f the clai grup. Magnetic data are presented n a plan f the prperty drawn at a scale f 1:2400. The ttal agnetic field data are pltted n the east side f the lines. The ttal field is in the rder f nt. Maxiu agnetic relief is apprxiately 2900nT with the highest values falling in areas underlain by Nipissing gabbr. An apparently tabular agnetic feature is indicatedin the nrth half f clai S The agnetic bdy lies within the Hurnian sedients which have been invaded by quartz veining, but shw n bvius cause fr the agnetic respnse. A lwer aplitude agnetic respnse is recrded n lines 26 t 32 West, the axis running fr abut 400 feet nrth f the base line n line 26W, alst n the cn brder f clais S and S , t 0+75 feet nrth n line 32W. This agnetic respnse is clsely assciated with an electragnetic cnductr which was detected by the 1984 airbrne gephysical survey, and which has been cnfired n the grund by VLF-EM surveys. 11
