4 LOCATION AND ACCESS 'C The Sentinel Pealr: property is on Highway #4, 45 kilometers west of Port Alberni on the east side of Kennedy River. A short logging spur road branches off from the highway at this point and provides access to the central part of the claim. PROPERTY WFINH.TION The area covered by the Sentinel Peak claim, which consists of 15 units, was probably partly or wholly covered by the I1OK" claims, totaling 20 claims, described in Geology, Exploration and Mining, 1970, on page 287. This area was intensly prospected for base-metals in the period between 1963 and During the next decade there was little interest in the area and most of the claims were allowed to lapse. The writer was intrigued by the widespread mineralization evident along the highway, in a washed-out section of the spur-road 2.nd on the hillside to the east and staked the Sentinel Peak claim in July GEOLOGY AND MINERAL1 ZATION Granodiorite is in contact with Karmutsen volcanics in the central part of the claim group. Disseminated pyrite and minor chalcopyrite occurs in intensly fractured and altered rocks for a considerable distance south of the contact. In a washed-out section of the spurroad, about 700 meters east of the point where it meets the highway, several quartz veins containing pyrite and abundant molybdenite in some sections, are exposed. These are in volcanics from 100 to 500 meters south of the contact. In the upper section of the road-grade, above a switch-back where it swings to the south-east up the hill-side, the rock exposed is altered diorite intensely fractured and mineralized with pyrite. A representative sample of this material assayed traces of gold and silver and 0,037; copper. Fractured and mineralized volcanics were f~und to the east and west of this point; unaltered granodiorite to the north. About 300 meters east a wide quartz vein was found which contsins mgnetite, pyrite, minor chalcopyrite and molybdenite. Page 1.

5 Seven days in July 1933 and one day in June 1984 were spent by the writer on the Sentinel Peak claim in prospecting and related work. H number of traverses were made over the area shown on the accompanying field sketch map. 22 soil samples were collected at 1130 foot intervals along the logging road. These were analysed by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. for MO, CU and AU. Results indicate strong anomalies in molybdenum, moderately high anomalies in copper and possible anomalies in silber. Regional silt sampling didn't indicate gold in this area so the samples were not analysed for gold. Traverses were made westerly to the highway from the switch-back in the logging road, along the highway, across the hill or knoll that lies between the logging road and the highway, up tthe creek that flows from the mountainside to the east, and south and east from - points along the logging road. A line was flagged and brushed out through the thick second growth of the logging slash to standing timber on the slopes in the vicinity of the wide quartz vein mentioned previously. This helped to facilitate prospecting and provided a base-line to tie in the location of showings of mineralization and other features of interest. Page 2
