3 I -1- Summary and Conclusions The Riviera claim covers previously known copper-gold mineral showings. A soil geochemical survey was conducted during May 1985 to delineate these known occurrences. The claim is located on the east side of Woss Lake approximately 10 km south of Woss (Vancouver Island). The claim is underlain by Triassic volcanics intruded by quartzfeldspar porphyry dykes (late phase Island Intrusions). The dykes appear to have been the cause of the local high grade quartz veins which extend from the volcanic/dyke contact. The program did not result in the discovery of any economical veins or vein systems within the newly established grid. Further reconnaissance soil geochemistry and prospecting should be carried out to examine the remaining unexplored portions of the property. Introduction Location and Accessibility The Riviera claim is located on the east side of Woss Lake (50 07' N, 126O 34' W) on northern Vancouver Island approximately 10 km south of the town of Woss. Access to the claim is via the paved two lane highway 19 ("Island Highway") to the town of Woss. From this point an improved logging road ("Woss Road") is followed south along the east shore of Woss Lake until the junction with Torback Road. Torback Road is passable with 2-wheeled high clearance vehicles and winds easterly up an unnamed mountain. It is approximately 1/2 km to the claim from the junction. The claims are accessible year-round, however a 4 wheel drdve vehicle is advised during the winter months.

4 -2- Climate and Phvsiosraphv The claim lies within the Vancouver Island Ranges. This is a moderately rugged mountain range with local elevations ranging from 500' to 3,000' and annual precipitation of 200" to 230". Most of the rainfall occurs in the winter months with snowfall at the higher elevations. Temperatures range from 10 C to 3OoC with the winter average well above freezing. Two streams have dissected the claim; Torback Creek which runs roughly westeast and Tony Creek which runs roughly south-north joining Torback Creek towards the western boundary of the claim before flowing into Woss Lake. 0 The mountainside has been extensively logged and as a result has abundant deadfall and scrub-brush typical of the logged terrains of Vancouver Island. Towards the eastern portion of the claim at,higher elevations,stands of hemlock, cedar and spruce are still present. New logging roads in the area will soon further exploit this resource. Claim Information The Riviera claim consists of sixteen (16) units in a configuration of 4 N, 4 E. It was staked January 6, 1981, and is owed by Guilford H. Brett for the benefit of Archer Minerals Inc. of Vancouver. The record number of the claim is 749(1) registered in the Nanaimo Mining Division. The claim covers an area previously covered by the Woss and Copper Duke Mineral claims.

6 -~ -4- Geology Rea ional The Geological Survey of Canada (G.S.C.) has regionally mapped the area as upper Triassic Karmutsen volcanics conformably overlain by Jurassic Bonanza volcanics. The Island Intrusive has intruded these lithologies in late Jurassic age. G.S.C. map 1552A, Albert Bay - Cape Scott, descibes the lithologies as follows: Jg - Island Intrusions: quartz diorite, granodiorite, quartz monzonite, quartz feldspar porphyry. - Bonanza Group: andesitic to rhyodacitic lava, I~BV tuff, breccia. UTk - Karmutsen Formation: basaltic lava, pillow lava, breccia, aquagene tuff, greenstone, minor limestone. Faulting is prevalent in the area and tends to follow directions typical of Vancouver Island. Regional trends are N/S - NW/SE and EW to NE/SW. Local The Riviera claim is locally underlain by upper Triassic Karmutsen volcanics of basaltic composition. At least six quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes have intruded the Karmutsen volcanics within the property. These intrusions are locally known as "red prophyry dykes" and are assumed to be a late phase of the Island Intrusions. The red porphyry dykes have caused extensive alteration where they have come in contact with the Karmutsen volcanics as well as producing mineralized quartz veins in these areas.

8 -6- Mineralization consists of quartz veins ranging from 1/4" - 6" in width, averaging 1" - 2". Whittles, A.B.L. (Copper Duke Claims, Assessment Report 4568, 1973) reported collecting a grab sample from o.ne of these "type" veins which assayed 16.6% copper, 2.5 oz/ton silver and 0.03 oz/ton gold. Mineralization in the area consists of chalcopyrite, specular hematite,pyrite and magnetite. ExDloration Prosram Previous Work Teck Corporation conducted a regional stream geochemical survey in This resulted in an anomalous stream sediment collected on Torback Creek. In 1964 the Woss Lake 1-6 claims were recorded by Hans Kapp who then initiated a geological mapping program (Assessment Report 663). As a result of mineral showings located beside new logging roadstthe area was restaked for the benefit of A. Chisholm, C. Kinneard, F. Loring and A.B.L. Whittles. The new claims were known as the West Hope 1-2 and Copper Duke I The program initiated from this group is reported h i Assessment Report 4566 and consisted of a limited mapping and VLF-EM survey Soil Geochem Survev The 1985 work program consisted of reconnaissance prospecting, establishment of a flag and chain grid and a soil geochemical survey. The purpose of this program was to extend and delineate the known showings. The grid consisted of 15 lines spaced 50 m apart with sample stations every 50 m. In total 8 1/2 km of line was established and 159 samples were collected and analysed for Au and Cu. Further, 18 rock samples were collected from the property and assayed for Au, Ag and Cu. Soil samples were collected from the B horizon, where present, otherwise the Ae hroizon was

James Thorpe, Project Geologist, was present on the property from May 21st, to May 25th,1985. Interpretation The Cu geochem results have been plotted on Plan 4 (Appendix Contours are at 50, 100 and 200 ppm. Contours clearly indicate structures (possibly 3) striking in a northerly direction. As this is a major faulting direction this is not unexpected. Measurements taken at the known showings indicate strikes between 155Oand 220. (This probably represents local intrusive/volcanic contacts while the overall strike follows the inherant zones of weakness). Geochem results indicate that the three possible 5)

10 -8- structures all lie within 300 metres of one another, however, each zone does not appear to kepresent any siqnificant mineralization as only individual stations have proven to be anomalous. Gold geochem results have also been plotted on Plan 4. As there were only 2 anomalous stations, these only have been plotted. The gold anomalies do not appear to correlate with the Cu anomalous zones. Follow-up work on the gold anomalies consisted of hand trenching. This uncovered a 1" wide quartz vein located directly above station L SW (495 ppb) and is accountable for the anomalous soil. No further work was performed on the soil grid. Only one rock sample returned a value elevated above background. This was a sample from a 1/2" wide vein with visable mineralization consisting of 5-10% pyrite, 30% specular hemetite and 1% chalcopyrite. The vein occurred within an altered zone parallel to a contact between the red porphyry dyke and Karmutsen volcanics. The vein lies 5 feet from the contact in the Karmutsen 0 volcanics and has an orientation of 200 /70 SE. It appears that the mineralization has been a result of the quartz-feldspar porphyry intrusive event. The red porphyry dykes have intruded the Karmutsen volcanics along zones of weakness (predominately N/S). As the intrusions occurred contact metamorphism resulted in the volcanics. The intrusive accumulated amounts of Cu, Fe and Au from the alteration zones. These were then redeposited in vein/veinlets which radiate out from the intrusive/volcanic contact. These veins and veinlets do not appear to be of sufficient widths or grades to commercially exploit, nor does it appear that a network or swarm of veins has developed under the confines of the newly established grid as assays are not consistant with that type of deposit.

11 I- -9- Recommendations As no significant mineralization was located on the newly established grid system that covers the known showings; a reconnaissance grid, extending from the present grid, should be established. Lines should be spaced every 200 m with sample stations every 50 m. The lines should be of sufficient length to extend to the claim boundary. Further, continued prospecting of unexplored portions of the property should continue as well as new areas outside the claim. Several new logging roads, outside the claims, were under construction in 1985; these should be prospected as new showings may have been excavated.
