MATERIALS AND METHODS Plnt mtril n growth onitions Bn plnts (P. vulgris L.) wr grown unr th following ontroll grnhous onitions with 2 to 3/1 C y/night tmprturs, 3 to 4% rltiv humiity in Erzurum (Turky). Dy lngth ws pproximtly 14 h uring th xprimntl prio. Th soil smpls wr tkn from th pth of to 1 m from griulturl fils in Erzurum provin (39 ' N, 41º 61' E) of Turky; ri inoors until it oul ruml to pss through 4 mm for pots xprimnt n 2 mm sivs for th nlyss of th physiohmil proprtis. Th soil ws lssifi s Ariisol oring to th USA txonomy (Soil Survy Stff, 1992) with prnt mtrils mostly onsisting of volni, mrn n lustrin mtril.
