2 -1- BELFORD 3-38 I INTRODUCTION The Belford 3-38 claim group is situated in the southwest corner of Belford Township, astride the Ivanhoe River rapids in the Groundhog River area of Northern Ontario. This group fcf twenty-two claims is held by Mcintyre Porcupine Mines, Limited. II H ISTORY The staking was done in January 1957 t by the Mcintyre Exploration Department on the location of an east-west airborne electromagnetic anomaly. The International Nickel Compahy of Canada carried out this electromagnetic survey. III LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY The group is located astride the Ivanhoe River rapids in Belford Township* Sudbury Mining district, Ontario, Access to the property is by canoe from Spruce Falls Pulp and Paper Damp No. 112 situated at the bottom of the Six Mile Rapids, Groundhog River, Montcalm Township. From this camp one proceeds north ward to the confluence of the Groundhog and Ivanhoe Rivers and thence up the Ivanhoe River.

3 -2- There are five portages by passing six falls on the Ivanhoe River* Two of the falls are bypassed in one long portage * IV TOPOGRAPHY The property is flat throughout with the steepest hills being the banks of the Ivanhoe River* The area north and south of the river is mostly swampy with small dry poplar and spruce overgrown ridges. The sandy coil in these ridges suggests an esker origin. No outcrop had been observed within the property* ssoall spruce, birch and alders are the wood types in Poplar, greatest abundance with some jaekpine predominating in the south eastern section* V GEOLOGY b There was no outcrop Observed within the property therefore nothing can be said with regards the geology in a descriptive sense* However, one outcrop was encountered outside the Mcintyre group in the southeast. The rock here was a dark schist composed of hornblende, feldspar and biotite. The strike of the schistosity^is NSl 0! and the dip appeared to be vertical or very nearly so*

4 WORK DONE ' ""v ' " "i The staking was done in January 1957 by the Mcintyre Exploration Edpartment using a helicopter as the means of transportation* The line cutting was started in June and completed in July 1957, under contract with Jean Alix, Val D'or, Quebec. The picket lines were cut in the east west direction and at intervals of 400 feet* The geological mapping was done from the out picket lines and from the claim lines as the claims were being tagged* Also some pace and compass traversing was done in the northern part through the high priority electromagnetic anomaly* No sampling test pitting and trenching was undertaken as the area is swanpyj the ridges are sandy, and no mineralized zones were found* Also the airborne work does not locate anomalies close enough for such work. In areas where the overburden looked as if it may be thin, grub hoe probing failed to uneover the bed rock*

5 -4- Vll CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS. The lines have been cut f or a ground electromagnetic survey. Should this survey locate and overlapping anomaly it would be worthwhile to try some probing, test pitting or trenching in the drier areas* The use of packsaok diamond drill is questionable as the overburden may be as thick as 50 feet in places. The Ronka Electromagnetic Unit, employed by Mcintyre, is a horizontal loop type with a specified depth penetration of 200 feet. It is possible that the penetration is even less* If the overburden is too thick for trenching and packsack diamond drilling, then more information can be sought by introducing an electromagnetic unit with greater penetration power or bring in diamond drill equipment capable of deeper drilling than packsack drill* Should no ground anomaly be detected then the choice of doing further work is questionable*

8 -i- 03SIN 3.42 I INTRODUCTION The Ossin 3-48 claim group is situated astride the township line dividing Wadsworth and Ossin Townships, Sudbury mining district, in Northern Ontario* This group of thirty claims is held by Mcintyre Porcupine Mines limited* II HISTORY The staking was done in January 195? by the Iclntyre Exploration Department on the location of anairborne electromagnetic anomaly* The International Nickel Company of Canada carried out this electromagnetic survey. ' ;'" III LOCATION AND ACCESSIBILITY The group is located southwest of " ' ' Paul take, Wadsworth Township* Access to the area is by ' ) 'i : f" aircraft from South Porcupine, a distance of sixty air miles* The base camp is on the south shore of a smaller lake due east of Paul Lake* Picket line SOW was cut to a point on the south shore about one hundred feet east of the campsite. Another blazed trail leads westward from the campsite along the south shore and south along the creek to a small pobd outside the nortwest boundary of the olaia group.

9 -8- TOPOGRAPHY The whole area i s mostly covered by overburden with very little, outcrop exposed ^1 ledge** A large ridge striking parallel to the eleotromagnetie anomaly predominates the staked-out area* The northwest and southeast slope a of this ridge lie along -1 ' - :, '"' - '*' - - f ' ' the corresponding claim group boundaries, The central zone along the strike of the ridge is a shallow gouge d-out area filled in with cedar swamp overburden* The drainage is equally divided to the northeast and southwest along this ridge "trough". The schist appears to be coarser further away from the central zone of the ridge*

11 -4- Vlll RECOMMENDATIONS That the area be passes over with a ground electromagnetic method* Should the results of this survey verify the airborne survey then trenching and packsank diamond drilling methods could be employed for cloeer inspection* This type of work will be of a limited nature as the overburden is quite wet and thick along the airborne anomalous zone* That some magnetometer profiles be taken along the picket lines crossing the hiph priority anomalies* This proposal stems from the "finding" of pyrite-pyrrohotlte by one of the claim atakers. No such mineralization was found by the author, but magnetometer profiles would result in the location of this "pyrite^pyrvhotite^ and diabase. John \ j Sporer
