Qualifications of Author Gary Pearse has over 35 years experience in a broad range of geological and engineering work both nationally and internationally including geological survey work, exploration and development, consulting and operations. He holds a Bsc, Geological Engineering (Manitoba- 1961) and an Msc, Economic Geology (Manitoba-1968). Currently he is under contract with Equapolar Resource Consultants. 2. Assessment Work Done Eight trenches were dug on the Bertus Property using a John Deere 590D excavator with a one yard bucket, to test extensions and explore for new pure white dolomite marble. Trench locations are as shown on figures l and 2. Bedrock was exposed only in trenches 2,3 and 4. The geology of these trenches is shown in figures 3,4 and 5 respectively. Field and office work were done in the period August 7th to August 27th, Geology Trench #1A andb (figure l) These trenches were dug in the Southeast corner of SO into the north slope of a low ridge trending 50 deg. Both were excavated to the maximum reach of the machine of 23 feet (6.9 m). Trench l A, oriented 313 deg. Azimuth is 10.4 m long and one metre wide. Trench IB, 17m from Trench l A on bearing 313 deg. is oriented 332 deg. And 10.6 m long. Both trenches cut l m oxidized red silty sand with boulders but relatively few pebbles. Below one metre, the material is a grey pebbly, bouldery till with considerable clay and silt. It would appear that the ridge is a morainal deposit with the top meter reworked by water to remove the clay fraction. No bedrock was exposed. o o Trench #2 (figures l and 3) Located in the centre of SO , number 2 is 27m long, l metre wide and averages 1.5 m deep. Overburden is red silty sand with boulders, suggesting reworked till. The bedrock is a sequence of marble beds intruded by a leuco-pegmatite sill 4 metres thick. The bedding trends from 85 to 100 deg, dipping 20 to 50 south. The marble is generally white, coarse grained but phlogopitic throughout and contains numerous rusty and skarny zones. A detailed description is recorded on figure 3. The alteration, variability and presence of pegmatite intrusion renders rock of this sequence unsuitable for dimension stone or filler applications. The material resembles that found both above and below the favourable pure dolomite band in the region^ Trench #3 (figures 2 and 4) RECEIVED^ SEP O GEOSCiENCF ASSESSMENT

2 Trench 3 is 44m long, trending in a curve from 265 degrees at is east end to 315 at the western end. It is located in the southwesterly quarter of the southern unit of SO The trench exposes a series of marble beds trending 45 to 55 deg, dipping 35 to 40 south which are intruded by leuco-pegmatite. Skarny zones, phlogopite, graphite and limonite probably from pyrite occur in zones throughout the sequence. One ampibolite lens trending 155 deg. cuts the marble near the end of the trench. This petrology resembles that of trench 2 and is commom in the district. It lies below the favourable pure dolomite band. Trenches # 5,6,7 and 8 (figure 2) These trenches located in the north and central zone of the northeast unit of SO failed to reach bedrock. Trenches 5, 7 and 8 were dug to the maximum 23 feet (6.9m). For trench 6, a 5m bench was dug to permit excavation to 28 feet (8.4m). Trench 5 was dug in a spring, a common surface manifestation of a ledge of marble near the surface. The spring turned out to be discharge from sand layers in the till. At 4m, hardpan was encountered and the material was typical bouldery till. Trench 6 showed a top metre of buldery silty sand underlain by gey bouldery till. Hardpan was reached at 4 metres. Trench 7, at the top of the saddle between the marble ridge to the north and that of the former Easton Minerals to the south, revealed a reworked bouldery, silty sand to a depth of 4 metres with till below. The location and attitude of the marble to the north suggests that the top contact wraps around the south end of the ridge to the north which would make for a considerable surface width of white dolomite marble beneath the overburden on the saddle. Trench 8 was excavated on the northerly sloping end of the southerly ridge which contains the stone of the former Easton Minerals property. Dug to full reach, no bedrock was exposed. The material of the overburden was a metre of red bouldery, silty sand overlying grey till. Recommendations: A diamond drilling program is recommended to locate the northeasterly extension of the high purity dolomite marble of the Bertus quarry area. A second drilling program to evaluate the potentially very wide workable section that probably exists below the saddle described above should also be done.
