4 TRENCH REPORT ON THE TREASURE ISLAND GROUP INTRODUCTION During July 1973 the VHEM Conductor "A" on the Treasure Island Claim Group was trenched to determine the cause of this conductor. PROPERTY LOCATION AND ACCESS The trench lies on claim on an island at the north end of Savant Lake, Savant Township (H 1882) about 25 miles NNW of the town of Savant Lake, Ontario (Fig.I). GEOLOGY The underlying rocks of the area are primarily daciteandesite volcanic flows locally with argillite-quartzite interbeds, some of which apparently contain sulfide mineraliz ation. The geology of the trench itself, and its location with respect to the VL conductor "A" and the claim group, is depicted on Map 1. The trench was mapped at a scale of l" s 10*. The conductive zone appears to be about seven feet wide, and exists in a shear zone of dark grey to black argillite and pyritiferous phyllite, apparently in a contact zone between sericite and sericite chlorite schist (probably altered dacite) to the east and an altered (volcanic impregnated?) dirty greenish-grey indistinctly schistose quartzite to the west. The conductive material appears to consist of irregular stringers and seams of pyrite, parallel and sub-parallel to the schistosity. A few bjebs, and locally disseminations of chalcopyrite was also noted. TRENCH PARTICULARS The trench is approximately 45 ft. long, two to four feet wide, and three to four feet deep, with an original sandy overburden depth of one to two feet. The overburden was first removed. The trench was then drilled with an Atlas Copco Cobra BBM 47LA gas run compression rock drill. The holes were blasted, the trench mucked out and subsequently mapped by a geologist.

5 2. A total of 3^ days (52 nan hours) trenching by two men was utilized to complete the work. A geophysical survey program and some general geological mapping has also been completed in the vicinity of the trench by HBOG Mining Limited. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Since only very minor chalcopyrite mineralization was noted in the trench,it was deemed insufficient to warrant further work at this time. However, if encouraging results are encountered in the two nearby conductors to the northwest, the trenched conductor should be further investigated.
