Dark grey in colour, composed of approximately 60X biotite and 40X subangular quartz averaging 0.2 cm. Weak gneissic fabric developed resulting from a partial planar alignment of the biotite crystals. Gneissic fabric averages 40 degrees to the C.A. The unit averages 1-2X milky white siliceous (quartz) material as cm stringers, veinlets and veins. These may exhibit narrow, bleached haloes. Quartz stringers, veinlets and veins are conformable with the gneissic fabric Blocky core with 0.50 m of core loss Fault gouge. Carbonate-rich mud with larger gravel fragments. No apparent core loss Zone of milky white siliceous (quartz) stringers and veinlets up to 1.0 cm in width. Averages 10-12X quartz, which may contain fine hair-tine Fa-oxide stained fractures. Quartz stringers and veinlets average 40 degrees to the C.A Blood red stained (Fe-rich carbonate) fractured surface at 20 degrees to the C.A Fault gouge. Carbonate-rich mud containing larger gravel fragments. No apparent core loss Milky white quartz veinlet, cm in width, at 13 degrees to the C.A. Contains fine hair-line Fe-oxide stained fractures Blood red stained (Fe-rich carbonate) fractured surface subparallel to the C.A. The lower contact is gradationsl over a few centimetres, and is marked by a colour change from dark grey to a medium grey-green/greygreasy green in the underlying unit METAGREYWACKE (STRAIN ZONE) HOLE *: GL90-01

Medium grey-green to medium grey-greasy green in colour. Composed of approximately 40X biotite, 40X subangular quartz up to 0.2 cm, and 20X combined chlorite and sericite. Moderate chloritic (grey-green) and sericitic (grey-greasy green) alteration throughout the unit. Chloritic alteration is slightly nore dominant than the sericitic alteration. Well developed schistosity. The unit averages 4-5X milky white siliceous (quartz) material as stringers, veinlets and veins up to 4.0 cm in width, which are conformable to the schistosity Schistosity at 25 degrees to the C.A Schistosity and quartz stringers/ veinlets and veins are moderately crenulated, and range from degrees to the C.A : Blood red stained (Fe-rich carbonate) fractured surface at 20 degrees to the C.A : Trace 0.1 cm blebs of subhedral pyrite within a 0.6 cm quartz veinlet at 20 degrees to the C.A Schistosity at 25 degrees to the C.A : Milky white quartz veinlet, 0.5 cm in width, at 30 degrees to the C.A. Exhibits minor millimetre offsets The lower contact is sharp at 52 degrees to the C.A.. It is marked by a very distinct colour change from medium grey-green/grey-greasy green to d dark grey of the underlying unit METAGREYWACKE Banded and weakly gneissic, fine to medium grained metagreywacke. Alternating medium and dark grey in colour, with one short intersect in near the top of the unit which is medium grey-green/grey-greasy green in colour. Composed of approximately 60X biotite and 40X subangular quartz up to 0.2 cm. Biotite content decreases to approximately 40X in the medium grey-green/grey-greasy green intersection, with the remainder being 40X quartz and 20X combined chlorite and sericite. This intersection is moderately chloritic and sericitic altered. Weak gneissic fabric developed throughout due to the partial planar HOLE *: GL90-01

The gneissic fabric averages 45 degrees to the C.A. Alternating medium grey and dark grey colour bands are conformable to the gneissic fabric. Milky white siliceous (quartz) material, 2-3X, occurs as stringers, veinlets and veins, cm in width, and are predominately conformable to the gneissic fabric. Quartz material may exhibit narrow, bleached halos Moderate chloritic and sericitic alteration. Medium grey-green/grey-greasy green in colour : IX finely disseminated pyrite associated with two 1.5 cm and 3.0 cm quartz veins at 62 and 50 degrees to the C.A., respectively : Weak crenulation of the gneissic fabric : Milky white quartz vein, 3.0 cm in width, at 60 degrees to the C.A. Bordered downhole by 2X subhedral to euhedral blebs of pyrite : Zone of milky white quartz veinfng, ranging from 1.5 to 4.0 cm in width, at 45 to 60 degrees to the C.A. 3X subhedral to euhedral blebs of pyrite, occasionally vuggy. Quartz veins contain scattered 0.1 to 0.2 cm carbonate inclusions : Pyrite coated fractured surface at 20 degrees to the C.A : 1X subhedral to euhedral blebs of pyrite Milky white quartz veinlet, 0.5 cm in width, at 47 degrees to the C.A Oval shaped soft sediment deformation feature (rip-up clast), cross cutting both the gneissic fabric and the colour banding, subparallel to the C.A Soft sediment deformation feature (load structure) parallel to the C.A X subhedral to euhedral blebby pyrite associated with weak, patchy chloritic and sericitic alteration Milky white quartz stringer, 0.2 cm in width, at 50 degrees to the C.A Pyrite coated fractured surface at 45 degrees to the C.A Milky white quartz veinlet, 0.5 cm in width, at 38 degrees to the C.A X finely disseminated pyrite, with occasional subhedral to euhedral bleb*. 'f-' g BANDED IRON FORMATION Banded, iron formation. Fine grained dark grey to black colour, alternating with lighter medium grey to greyish-green bands. Composed predominately of biotite, magnetite and quartz. Percentages difficult to determine due to the fine grained nature of the rock. Lighter greyish-green bands, millimetres in width, appear to be weakly sericitic fracture planes. Weak gneissic fabric. Colour banding alternates on a millimetre scale. Banding is conformable to the gneissic fabric, at 50 degrees to the C.A. Milky white quartz, quartzcarbonate stringers and veinlets, 0.2 to 1.0 cm in width, are also conformable to the gneissic fabric. Unit contains 0.5 to 1.0X very finely disseminated pyrite, locally with coarser blebs up to 0.2 cm is size. Strongly magnetic throughout (conductor zone) Pyrite-quartz-carbonate coated fractured surface at 47 degrees to the C.A IX blebs of subhedral pyrite associated with a 0.3 cm milky white quartzcarbonate stringer at 50 degrees to the C.A X blebs of subhedral pyrite associated with a 0.2 cm milky white quartzcarbonate stringer at 51 degrees to the C.A Milky white quartz veinlet, 0.5 cm in width, at 46 degrees to the C.A Scattered blebs of subhedral pyrite associated with a 0.3 cm quartz-carbonate stringer at 47 degrees to the C.A Weakly crenulated milky white quartz veinlet, 0.5 cm in width, at 46 degrees to the c.a HOLE *: GL90-01

Harked by a decrease in the strength of magnetism, to no magnetism in the underlying unit. S METAGREYWACKE Banded, weak to moderately gneissic, fine to medium grained metagreywacke. Alternating medium grey to a darker grey in colour. Occasional short intervals that are medium grey-green/grey-greasy green in colour which is associated with moderate chloritic and sericitic alteration. Composed of approximately 60X biotite and 40X subangular quartz averaging 0.2 CM. Biotite content decreases to approximately 40X in the meduim grey-green/grey-greasy green intervals, with the remainder being 40X quartz and 20X combined chlorite and sericite. Weak to to moderately developed gneissic fabric throughout as a result of the partial alignment of biotite crystals. Gneissic fabric and colour banding are conformable and average 45 degrees to the C.A. The unit averages 1-2X quartz and quartz-carbonate stringers, veinlets and veins, cm In width, which are predominately conformable to both the gneissic fabric and the colour banding Ground core, with 0.14 cm of core loss X blebs of subhedral pyrite associated with moderate sericitic and chloritic alteration. Pyrite appears to be concentrated along the gneissic fabric Medium grey-green/grey-greasy green in colour due to moderate sericitic and chloritic alteration : Milky white quartz vein, 1.5 cm in width, at 51 degrees to the C.A. Contains fine inclusions and hair-line stringers of chlorite and sericite : Milky white quartz vein with upper and lower contacts at 40 and 45 degrees to the C.A., respectively. The vein contains inclusions and fine bands of chlorite and sericite. The lower contact contains smears of pyrite : Milky white quartz vein with upper and lower contacts at 52 and 48 degrees to the C.A., respectively.
