4 NTRODUCTON illr The NW mineral claims consisting of 37 units are located at latitude 53O17' north and longitude 132O03' west on Graham sland in the Skeena Mining Division, B.C. (Figure 1). The claims lie at an elevation of approximately 300 m and are accessible by helicopter from Sandspit, B.C. Topography is gentle to hilly, dissected by streams flowing to the east, northeast, The climate is mild and rainy, vegetated with mature forests of hemlock, Sitka spruce and cedar along creeks. n higher areas the ground is marshy with small timber. The claims were staked in 1981 to determine the source of anomalous gold found in streams draining the area. Geochemical soil surveys for gold, silver and arsenic over 18.5 kilometers of line grid were completed between June 8 and June 14, 1981 covering most of the claim area, CLAMS The property consists of the mineral claims listed below andshown on the accompanying claim map (Figure 2): Claim Name. Record # Nw1 Nw2 Nw3 GEOLOGY Units Record Date March 31 March 31 July 6 The entire claim area is underlain by Jurassic Yakoun formation, described by Sutherland Brown1 ; as being composed of porphyritic andesitic agglomerate and tuffs with abundant sediments derived from the volcanic rock. The rocks strike to the NW dipping in both easterly and westerly directions. A granitic intrusive intrudes this formation to the east of the claim group. GEOCHEMCAL SOL SURVEY Methods and Ground Control Ground control was possible by use of 1:50,000 topographic maps and air photos. Grid lines for the geochemical soil survey were established at 500 meter intervals running north-south from an east-west baseline, coincident with the claim line running east from the legal corner post of the Nw 1, NW 3 claims (see Figure 3 in pocket). w Sutherland-Brown, A., slands. 7 W Lines were surveyed using a hip chain and compass, with stations marked with flagging at 100 meter intervals, Distances on slopes were corrected to horizontal utilizing a visual dip angle meter. The grid lines were tied into the pre-existing legal cornerpost and obvious topographic features. n the course of the survey a total of 188 soil samples were collected over 18.5 kilometers of line grid, with samples spaced at 100 meter intervals. At each soil location a hole was dug with a shovel and 0.5 to 1.5 lbs. of mostly B-horizon soil was collected and placed in a Kraft soil sample bag and appropriately numbered. Soil profiles and the respective soil horizons are generally well developed over the claim. All the samples were analyzed for gold, silver and arsenic. Analytical Treatment All soils were assayed by Acme Labs for As and Ag. The following technique was used: Multi Element Analysis by CP Digestion of Sample: 0.5 gram samples are digested with hot aqua regia for one hour and the sample is diluted to 10 ml. The diluted sample is aspirated by CP and the analytical results are printed by Telex, either in percent or ppm as shown. Gold; also analyzed by Acme Labs was assayed using the following method: Geochemical Analysis for Au 10.0 gram samples that have been ignited overnite at 6OO0C are digested with hot dilute aqua regia, and the clear solution obtained is extracted with Methyl sobutyl Ketone. Au is determined in the MBK extract by Atomic Absorption using background correction (Detection Limited = 5 ppb direct AA and 1 ppb graphite AA). RESULTS All assay results are included in Appendix 11. Background gold values assayed 5 ppb or less. Several soils assayed slightly above background but no soils were anomalous. Silver values ranged from.1 to.9 ppm with an average value of.3 ppm. Arsenic values ranged from 1 to 39 ppm with one anomalous value of 103 ppm. CONCLUSONS AND RECOMMENDATONS Soil geochemical assay results indicate no anomalous Au values and one isolated anomalous As value. Ag values appear to vary considerably indicating small areas with higher than average values. Due to wide line spacing (500 m) no anomalous pattern or trend is evident.... 3
