12 3.0 MINING ACTIVITY Geology and Reserves Regional Geological setup REGIONAL GEOLOGY : The region has Kadapa system of rocks where statigraphy is established by working of as given below : Upper Kadapa Lower Kadapa Krishna series Nallamalai series Cheyair series Papaghani series ----Unconformity---- Srisailam Quartzites Kolamnela Shales Iron Shales ----Unconformity---- Cubum shales Bairen Konda quartzites --- Unconformity--- Tadapatri shales Pulivendla quartzites ----Unconformity--- Vempalle dolomitic limestones Gulchere quartzites ----Unconformity----- Archaean gneisses & schist s Local Geology Generally, the area is part of Kadapa basin and is a sedimentary formation. The rock types generally noticed in the area are clay s, dolomite, & quartzite s in succession. The ML area is completely covered with dolomites with steatite mineralization. It is believed that Steatite mineralization is occurred due to metamorphic activity in dolomitic limestone s. In general the chemical composition of dolomitic limestone is double carbonates of Calcium & Magnesium Silica & Alumina. When dolomitic limestone subjected to metamorphism & reacted at suitable conditions with water, the dolomitic limestone altered into hydrous magnesium silicate which is precisely Steatite, Calcium & magnesium Carbonate which is Dolomite & Aluminium silicates which are low grade steatite. Detailed study has been conducted in the working pits & noticed the following rock types. Surface soil, Dolomite, Dolomitic lime stone & Steatite. The existence of Dolomite, Dolomitic lime stone & the steatite vein is observed. In the lease area the Dolomite & steatite high grade & steatite low grade (filler grade) is occurring almost as alternative bands & surface area is most of dolomitic limestone & Dolomite patches with low grade steatite bands. The rock formations are uniform bedded deposit & there is no structural disturbance. The color of steatite is a light cream 11 P a g e

13 & light Green color. The strike length of Dolomite and Steatite zone in the applied area is 506m in NE SW. The average width of the zone is observed about 10m in the Dolomite and Steatite zone the recovery is observed only 90 % and balance 10% will be intercalated waste. Within the steatite ore there will be about 20% of Low grade steatite i.e. filler grade. Alternate bands the contact of steatite at the wall rock with dolomite both on hanging as well as foot wall is not sharp. But admixed with dolomite gradually merging to pure dolomite which is the country rock while steatite is comparatively soft to excavate the dolomite is hard. Around the applied area, there are some mining lease areas and old working pits exist in the same strike direction and depth of the old working pits are about 5m to 100m depth. In the steatite mineralized area the Dolomite with alternate beds of Low grade Steatite and High Steatite are exposed where as in non steatite mineralized zone the Dolomite & low grade steatite with alternate bands is massive and shows no signs of any alteration. The colour of dolomite is black and cream. No other structural disturbances like fold & fault are observed in the ML area. The colour of steatite are light cream and light green. No other structural disturbances like fold & fault are observed in the ML area. 14 Total Mineable Reserves = Estimated Reserves - Estimated Non Mineable Resources = tonnes tonnes = tonnes Total Mineable Reserves are : tonnes Mineral Geological Reserves Non Minable Mineable Reserves Reserves Dolomite Steatite Low grade Steatite LIFE OF THE MINE : Initially the total quantity of mineable reserves is considered as marketable reserves. In this way a total mineable reserves of tonnes of Dolomite, tonnes of Steatite and tonnes of Low grade Steatite available in the applied area. As the mine is proposed to produce 4500 tonnes Dolomite, 3375tonnes Steatite and 2250 tonnes of Low grade Steatite shall be produced /annum, so the life of the mine is as follows : DOLOMITE Steatite & Low grade Steatite Total Mineable Reserves of Dolomite Actual anticipated annual production Total Mineable Reserves of Dolomite Actual anticipated annual production years 19 years PROJECT DESCRIPTION WITH PROCESS DETAILS Method of Mining a) Type of Mining: Considering the geology and nature of the mineral occurrence and also due to stable strata condition, the proposed mining will be carried out by underground 'Bord & pillar' method. It is proposed to open one incline along the dip direction on eastern side of the pit-i and it will be used as 'man-way'. One more parallel incline shall be opened on western side of the pit-1, keeping a distance of more than 40m, which will also be used as haulage. For every 40m horizontal distance one cross (level) cut will be made to connect the two inclines of haulage & man way in systematic manner as described below and shown on Plate No. 5. b) Extent of Mechanization For conducting of the proposed underground operations the following equipment will be required. 13 P a g e

20 IMPACT DUE TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC Max. No. of Trucks required to transport the Dolomite & Steatite will be From proposed Quarry - 3 nos. From adjoining quarry of nos. The existing road is capable of absorbing this additional traffic. Dust suppression will be taken up along the haulage roads & approach roads. Hence there will not be much impact on traffic due to this proposed mine activity. 2. WATER ENVIRONMENT i) Sources of Water Pollution The area/activity which has potential resulting in water pollution are identified and listed below: ii) Water Consumption 1. Water Consumption 2.
