3 1.0 INTRODUCTION Sri C. Shashi Kumar, Hyderabad, applied for Quarry Lease for Quartz and Feldspar over an extent of Ha., Located in Sy. No. 120/1, Mailaram Village, Balmoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool District vide his application dated The A.D. (M&G), Nagarkurnool, after careful examination proposed for grant of quarry lease. The Government decided in principle decided to grant a Quarry lease for Quartz and Feldspar over an extent of Ha., Located in Sy. No. 120/1, Mailaram Village, Balmoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool District, in favor of Sri C. Shashi Kumar for a period of (20) years subject to the submission of Approved Quarry Plan within APMMC Rules, 1966 along with CFE from the TSPCB, as per rules, vide Notice No /R2-3/2004, dated Accordingly the mining plan was submitted and approved by Deputy Director, Department Mines and Geology, Hyderabad vide Lr. No. 3129/QP/NGKL / 2017 dated 21/10/2017. PROFILE OF THE PROJECT PROPONENT: C. Shashi Kumar, is the lessee of the ML area. Mining operation will be undertaken under the supervision of well experienced Mining Consultant. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT: The Quartz from this mine is semi-glassy variety. The quartz from the nearby mines is used by the glass and Ferro-alloy industries. So, the same will hold good for this mine as well. Feldspar, which is expected to occur in this mine, is mainly of Ceramic application. Considering the present demand for Quartz & Feldspar it is proposed to mine max. of 74,442 TPA. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROPOSED MINING ACTIVITY: NATURE: This project involves mining of Quartz & Feldspar. This mineral will be excavated by following operations 1. Opencast semi-mechanized method. SIZE OF THE PROJECT: 3

4 Proposed max. capacity of Quartz & Feldspar will be 74,442 TPA in ML Area of Ha. in Sy. No. 120/1, Mailaram Village, Balmoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool District, Telangana. The proposed project cost is Rs Lakhs. As per Assistant Director Mines and Geology, Nagrkurnool, Government of Telangana, vide Lr.No.943/ML/04 dated 26/10/2017 informed that, there are no mining/quarry leases existing within 500 meters from applied area. 2.0 DETAILS ABOUT THE PROPOSED MINE SITE The proposed Mining activity is in the mine lease area of Ha. of land and is situated at Mailaram Village, Balmoor Mandal, Nagarkurnool District, Telangana. The following is the environmental settings within 10 Km. radius ML area. No. Ownership of occupancy Telangana Nagarkurnool Balmoor Mailaram /1 Govt. land Physiography & Topography: The applied area is a hill, in the granite terrain dotted with a number of low rising hills of about m high above the plains. The applied QL area is a hill with surrounding plains including. The hill is roughly oval shaped and is rising to a height of 65.0 m at the peak above the surrounding plains. Elevation of the applied area, range between 399 & 459 m. The Mailaram tank is located 0.50 Kms NNE of the applied area. The drainage system of this area is dendritic pattern and ultimately joins Krishna river. Vegetation on the hill is mainly constituted of thorny shrubs and bushes. Plains surrounding the hill ranges are irrigated by agriculture. Regional Geology: The lease area forms part and parcel of Basement rocks, constituted of Granites overlain by Deccan Traps on the hill ranges. 6 Geology of the area: The lithological sequence of the applied QL area as mapped is as given below. Top soil & debris Granites with emplacement of Quartz reef. Vein emplacement. The general strike of the Quartz emplacement is NNE-SSW, with sub-vertical dip. The Quartz reef is protruding as a ridge at the peak for a height of up to 3.0 to 4.0 above the debris level. The length of the reef in this hillock is 1050 m and out of this 745 m length fall within the applied area. The width of the out-crop varies between m and pinches out on both ends of hillock outside the applied area. The Quartz reef is striking NNE SSW, with a sub-vertical dip. Jointing and fracturing is prevalent in the Quartz body, due to the surface weathering. Feldspar is not exposed as out crops. Occurrence of feldspar chips in the scree is indicative of sub-surface occurrence, below soil cover. This needs to be established, by way of pitting. The flats on either side of the quartz reef are occupied by debris of quartz and soil. Symptoms of feldspar are observed at places. The slopes are occupied by soil and debris cover. The top level of quartz occurrence is a 462 m and the lowest level is at 416 m, within the applied area. Feldspar is anticipated to occur at a depth of m., on either side of the reef and below the debris. The interpreted contact of Feldspar based on geomorphology is given in Geological plan. Quartz of this mine is compact, brittle, milky and semi-glassy appearance and white in color. The reef is fractured and jointed due to the perineal weathering over the age of formation. Details of the prospecting carried out: The applied are is surveyed for topography and surface futures and Surface map along with Geology is prepared. The Survey is carried out deploying GPRS instrument. The Temple located to the north of the applied area at the foot hill is the Benchmark, for this survey. The Bench Mark is at the Temple at the foot hill to the north of applied area. The RL as determined by GPRS is m. 6

7 Bench Mark temple Future Exploration: 19 Pits up to a depth of 4.0 m depth and once the existence of Feldspar is established, three BHs up to a depth of 30.0 m to establish depth persistence of Feldspar and establish reserves. The exploration shall be taken up during the initial three years of first plan period. Estimation of Geological Reserves: Geometry of the Deposit: The Quartz reef is protruding as a ridge at the peak for a height of up to 4.0 above the debris level. The length of the reef mapped at the area is 745 m long, with a width of 40 m (max.), in the southern part of applied area. The highest level of quartz occurrence is a 462 m and the lowest level is at 416 m. Feldspar is anticipated to occur at a depth of m., on either side of the quartz reef below the debris. Method Estimation of Reserves: Reserves and Resources as per MEMC Rules, 2015, with respect to the threshold value notified by IBM may be furnished in a tabular form as given below: GEOLOGICAL STUDY: Quartz & Feldspar of this mine fall in Lenticular bodies of all dimensions including bodies occurring en echelon, silicified linear zones of composite veins. Lenses, pockets, stockworks Characteristics of deposits: Bodies distributed in space lacking estimable regular patterns; of magmatic origin, plugs and pots, clots and seggregations of hydrothermal origin vein. GEOLOGICAL STUDY: About hectare area is explored under G1 level of exploration for Quartz. The detailed exploration is yet to be undertaken in the remaining area which is expected to contain Feldspar below debris cover, on either side of the Quartz reef. 1. 8 Geological survey: 3. Ground Geophysical & Geochemical survey: boundary, Mineral out crops is prepared on 1:2000 scale. (Plate-3) The out crop of the Quartz reef has been mapped. The Bench Mark is at the Temple at the foot hill to the north of applied area. The RL as determined by GPRS is m. (ii) Geological Plan including all formations & lithic-units, structural aspects, Geological cross section positions, are mapped. Geophysical Survey: Not applicable for this type of deposits. Geochemical survey: Chip sampling of Quartz is carried out as two situations First on the top of the hillock and second in the slope of the hillock. Both these samples are analysed at NABL accredited laboratory and reports are given 4. Technological: A. Pitting Not carried out as Quartz mineralization is protruding above surface. B. Trenching Not carried out as Quartz mineralization is protruding above surface. C. An area of Ha is proved to contain Quartz mineralization by way of Out-crop mapping and sampling. D. Exploratory Mining: Not applicable. E. Sampling: Chip sampling of Quartz is carried out as two situations First on the top of the hillock and second in the slope of the hillock. Both these samples are analysed at NABL accredited laboratory and reports are given 5. Location of Data points. 6. Sampling Techniques. Located with the help of DGPS Survey. Moisture Not applicable. 10. Bulk density studies. 11. Resource Estimation techniques. 2.4 tons/m³ is considered for estimation of Quartz reserves, as the mineral is massive and compact. Discussed in Mineral resources & reserves, in later chapters. FEASIBILITY STUDY: The prefeasibility level of study has been undertaken. 1. Geology: The lease area is constituted of Quartz exposed at surface and Feldspar likely to occur on either side of the Quartz reef. The Quartz reef is striking NNE SSW, with a sub-vertical dip. Jointing and fracturing is prevalent in the Quartz body, due to the surface weathering. Feldspar is not exposed as out crops. Occurrence of feldspar chips in the scree is indicative of subsurface occurrence, below soil cover. This need to be established by way of pitting. Mining of quartz is feasible at this stage as it is protruding above surface. 2. Mining: Semi-mechanised mining method is adopted to produce Quartz in this mine. Mining is proposed by top slicing of the hillock. Benching of 1.5 m height and more than 1.5 m width are proposed. Blasting by using jack hammers is used in the mine. The mining is carried only during dry spell of ten months in a year. Manpower deployment is discussed in that chapter. 3. Environment: Environment Clearance and CFE will be obtained by the applicant, after approval of the Mining Plan. 4. Processing: Processing involved is only sizing of Quartz to size lumps as per the requirement of the consumer. 9

10 5. Infrastructure Approach roads are existing up to the temple at the northern and services, end of the hillock. Further approach to the mining pit shall be construction activities: made alone the western side of the Quartz reef, keeping a gradient of 1 in 12 and width of 6.0 m for easy and safe movement of mine vehicles. Rest shelter will be provided in the northern boundary of the lease at a safe distance from the mine road. 6. Costing: Cost of mining is estimated to be Rs per ton of ROM mineral, as experienced in the nearby mines for the area. 7. Marketing: The mineral is proposed to be supplied to the Glass and Steel & Ferro-alloy industries. 8. Economic viability: The Quartz is sold at Rs. 500 to per ton based on the quality. Thus the mine can earn the profit at the rated capacity. ECONOMIC AXIS: E1 (Economic) 1. Detailed exploration: An area of Ha is proved to contain Quartz mineralization by way of Out-crop mapping and sampling. Feldspar mineralization is proposed to be proved by way of Pitting during the first plan period. 2. Mining Plan: The mining lease is under consideration for grant and hence mining plan is prepared for the first plan period, after grant and commencement of mining. 3. Specific end use grades: Glass industry : SiO2 (+) 99.0%. Steel & Ferro-Alloy Industry: SiO2 (+) 98.0% and with Thermal Stability 90% min. 4. Special knowledge of forest / non-forest and other land use data: The mining land is Government assessed waste land. The plains around the hillock are irrigated. The area is at a distance of more than 2.0 kms away from nearest Amrabad R.F. The reserves are estimated in the cross section method and the assumptions and parameters are as defined below. 10

11 Seven Geological Cross sections are prepared at an interval of 100 m along the strike of the quartz vein. Reserves are estimated only for Quartz in this plan. Feldspar reserves shall be estimated as Probable category, on strong possibility of occurrence based on regional mine behavior and the geomorphology of the surface topography. These reserves shall be upgraded to Proved category on completion of proposed exploration. Quartz is occurring at surface at a lowest level of 399 m RL at both ends of reef, on either side of the hill slope. The highest level of occurrence is 465 m RL on the peak of the hillock. Surface occurrence of Quartz within the applied area is between m RL levels and thus over a vertical column of 45m. However, Reserves between m RL, 17.0 m above the lowest level of occurrence of Quartz at the surface, are classified as G1 Proved (121) reserves, as per UNFC Code. Quartz resources occurring between m RL falling in G4 category, are classified as Resources (334) as per UNFC Code. Feldspar as interpreted in the Geological cross sections, up to 420 m level are estimated as G4 Probable and are classified as Resources (334) as per UNFC Code. The Bulk density considered is 2.4 tons/ m³ in this mine, is considered for estimation of reserves. Recovery factor of the Quartz is considered as 95% of the volume excavated within the mineralized zone. The UPL will be inside buffer zone except as defined above. The UPL is conceptualized to be always outside the mineral zone with in the lease hold. 14 Life of Mine: The production planned from this mine is 70,000 tons of mineral per annum and at this rate of production life of the mine is 13.5 years. The life shall increase after exploration and establishing more reserves. Reserves blocked in the UPL are excluded while calculating life of the mine. Method of Mining: The mining is proposed the semi-mechanized method by deploying limited machinery like tractor mounted compressor jack hammers for blasting, excavator/loader for handling the loosened material on contingency basis. Mine development and production shall at the peak of the hillock and is proposed for top slicing. Benches of 6.0 m width and 3.0 m height are advanced. The vertical breaking shall be by subbenches of 1.5 m height. The production level is planned to be 70,000 tons of Quartz and Feldspar, inclusive of all grades. Feldspar is likely to be produced after completion of exploration and seeking permission from the competent authority. Pit slope angle of 60 o will be maintained at all the periods of mining activity. The waste generated will be stacked on either side of the reef and in non-mineralized area. The overburden stacks, will be stabilized by planting trees on them. Drilling and Blasting: Drilling is done using Jack hammers. For this purpose Compressor attached tractor with Jack hammer assembly will be provided. Magazine provision is planned after commencing the mine development. Production proposed for five years: The production is proposed commenced at the peak of the hillock, by top slicing and reach lower levels as the mine progresses. First Year: The top-slicing will be up to 450 m level. Thus the an average thickness of 4.5 m between 450 and 456 m peak level, is planned to be excavated over and area of 7074 m². Quartz of 66,403 tons planned for production and waste from side-burden/over burden generated shall be 2703 m³. Stacking of waste is detailed in relevant chapter. 14

15 Second Year: Production will be from lower level slice Between 444 and 450 m level. Area of 8004 m² will be excavated producing 72, 075 tons of mineral and 8406 m³ of waste. Third Year: Production will by continuing slicing by continuing the previous year bench towards south, of level slice Between 444 and 450 m level. 16 4.0. ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN AIR ENVIRONMENT : The emissions from mining activity will be dust and sources of dust will be due to mining activities and vehicular movement. The following measures will be adopted in mining to eliminate the fugitive dust emission. Wet drilling method will be adopted to reduce the dust generation. The dust rising due to drilling will be controlled by covering the drill rods with cloth, dust extractors will also be employed. Millisecond delay detonators or sequential blasting exclusively used. Dust suppression through tanker on roads. Dust masks. Planting of trees in ML area and on approach road. WATER ENVIRONMENT: The mine requires KLD of water. Water required will be sourced from bore well. The following is breakup of it. S. NO. ITEM WATER REQUIREMENT IN KLD 1. IMPACT DUE TO VEHICULAR TRAFFIC: The vehicles usage for transport of Quartz and Feldspar will be Max. of 17 nos. per day. 16

17 NOISE ENVIRONMENT: The main source of noise generation will be drilling and blasting and vehicular movement. The following noise control measures will be taken to reduce the noise impact. Drilling precautions: Wet Drilling will be adopted. Use of sharp drill bits, delivery of compressed air at optimal pressure and proper maintenance of compressor and drilling machine. Provision of earplugs/earmuffs to drillers. Blasting precautions: Proper charge per delay will be regulated Millisecond delay detonators or sequential blasting exclusively used. Stemming column will be more than the burden to avoid blown out shots. The machinery will be maintained properly to reduce the noise levels. The protective noise reducing gear like earmuffs, the company will provide earplugs to all the employees. Plantation will be taken-up along the 7.5 m buffer area within the ML area. SOLID WASTE: A total of 57,895 m³ waste is generated during this plan period. The waste shall be stacked on western side of the lease area along the 7.5 m barrier. The height shall be 4.0 m and the spread of 1.45 Hect. The base of dump will be skirted with big boulders to avoid sliding and the slopes will be planted to stabilize the dumps. PLANTATION DEVELOPMENT: The plantation will be taken up in the Buffer zone of the ML area and along the approach road. In buffer zone 1520 saplings will be planted.
