5 1.0 Introduction M/s. Kasturi Granites & Exports, has been in principle granted a Quarry lease for Colour Granite over an extent of ha. in Sy. No. 13 of Palavalasa Village, Bhamini Mandal, Srikakulam District, Andhra Pradesh vide Notice No. 5266/R1-1/2011 dated The Mining Plan was approved by Dy. Director of Mines & Geology, Visakhapatnam vide Letter No. 2385/MP-SKL/2017 dated The approval was accorded to conduct open cast Semi mechanized method for mining of Colour Granite Mine with the production capacity of 71,230 cu. m./annum within the lease period. Capital cost proposed for the quarrying is Rs. 75 lakhs. 1.1 Mining Technology Open cast semi - mechanized method of mining deploying an excavator is proposed to be undertaken in the area. The mining operation is proposed to be conducted in a very scientific and systematic manner. The production will be carried out by forming benches of 6m height and width will be kept more than height is 8m. The slope of the bench will be maintained properly as per the stability of the strata and the overall slope angel of the pit will be maintained not more than The production plan & sections can give clear idea about the Q.L area. 1.2 Mine Location and its details The proposed site is falling in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh is depicted below (Fig ) Page No. 2

11 Cluster details a. Cluster classification and location details: As per the cluster definition the present cluster of mines comes under the examination purview of SEAC (State Expert Appraisal Committee) Government of Andhra Pradesh. This is because of the proposed mines have already obtained Environment Clearance. Though the areas which received Environment clearance will not be counted under cluster, but we prepared cluster EMP as per the MoEF Notification 1 st July This cluster condition does not need EIA study or public hearing. Accordingly the present EMP is prepared. The map showing mine leases available within 500 m. from the present Mine lease area is shown in Fig 1. The letter from Asst. Director of Mines & Geology, Srikakulam listing the leases available within 500 m. radius is shown in Fig 2. One existing lease area is located within the 500 m. radius from the mine lease area, which will come under cluster to this mine as per MoEF Notification dated 1 st July The cluster details are given below. A brief of important details of geology are given below Topography The applied area consists of Undulating hillock terrain and comprises of Leptynite Rocks. Visually white, Greenish white, in colours having a general trend of NE-SW direction. The quarry area is occupied by Weathered, Fractured boulders and sheet rock forming ridges. The maximum RL is 210 m in the central part of the area and the minimum RL is 160m in the Eastern part of the area. The hillock covers with Boulders and sheet formation of Leptynites is clearly exposed on the surface Regional Geology In and around Srikakulam District Granite is extensively quarried for the past three decades or so. It is a part of Eastern Ghats Group of rocks consisting of Leptynites, Khondalite and Granitoids a variety of hybrid rock formed by the interaction of Intrusive Granite into the Khondalite. The Eastern Ghats group(egmb) attains a maximum thickness in the Ganjam - Cuttack tract. It occurs as ridges trending NE- SW. The Eastern Ghats belt exhibits high grade metamorphism as evidenced by the presence of Garnet and Sillimanite Local Geology The applied area belongs to Archean age of Eastern Ghats Mobile Belt(EGMB).The terrain in and around the area is of undulating in nature. The major portion of the area is occupied by big boulders of Leptynite. Visually this rock appears in Creamy/Milk white in colour. Minor Joints were observed and they are widely spaced and are useful in splitting big blocks from the mother rock. The rock on physical examination is medium White in colour, medium to fine grained compact. The rock formation is Granitic Gneiss forming isolated outcrop. The rock formation contains essential Mineral like Quartz, K-feldspar, Plagioclase Feldspar, Garnet and Biotite, Amphiboles and Iron oxides as accessory Minerals. Texturally the rock is compact and moderately hard. The rock exhibits a wavy structure in few boulders Leptynite (Granitic Gneiss). The rock at places is intruded by Quartz vein and Feldspar band. The Weathering extends to a depth varying from few inches to a foot in some area. A Megascopic and polished sample indicates that the rock takes good polish and exhibits fine texture. The overall appearance of the rock is white colour. The rock formation can be classified under Leptynites of Page No. 11

15 coastal Andhra Pradesh, and can be commercially marketed in the parlance locally called as" Creamy white". Creamy white Granite is under active quarrying in and around Srikakulam District. Considering the textural homogeneity and Mineralogical composition,the rock formation can yield good quality of Colour Granite, from the dimensional stone point of view Leptynites and rarely Migmatised acid Charnockites are treated as,as "Creamy White"/"White Galaxy variety of Colour Granite." 3.0 Production Details The year wise production details of the cluster are taken as approximation for the mines and are summarized in the following table. For this reason the pattern of damage due to the mining operations is same for both the mines. Page No. 12

Wire Saw 1 Waste Management During Plan period the total quantity of waste likely to be generated is Cu.m. It consists of granite blocks of various sizes, shapes and dimension. Soil component will be minimal but will be stacked separately from the mine waste. Some of the material from the waste may be sorted out and used for making small blocks known as khandas to be used by the local unit for making tiles. The market for tiles is good at the moment and they will offer a better substitute for marble in terms of price and quality. Some rejected and unsorted material may be used in the civil engineering projects in the vicinity of the area. The waste material can also be crushed into smaller sizes and can be used as road metal. The waste generated may be dumped in the zone separately reserved for dumping in the North Western part of applied area. The dumps will be designed in such that it will have slopes equal to the angle of repose of such material. Drains have to be provided and the dump terraced. Garland drains have to be sunk along the leading edge of the dump. 7.0 Use of Mineral: The waste generated in the granite quarrying the lease holder shall attempt to value addition through manufacturing of tiles, Kerbs, Cubes and payment slabs under relevant section of GCDR, 1999.The Granite can be useful as amenable to be recovered as dimensional stone, capable of taking polish, commercially exploitable. 8.0 Anticipated cumulative Impacts & Mitigation Measures due to cluster The individual mines have their specific impacts within the respective lease boundaries. However the impact on environment due to cluster situation is felt mainly due to the traffic and thereby on the dust and noise. There will not be any alteration in water pollution due to cluster situation. Air Pollution due to cluster and its Mitigation As explained above the total number of trucks plying during any given hour during the peak production levels is 3. These trucks will be playing on a common road of Page No. 13

17 length 300 meters. This zone is envisaged to have highest pollution due to dust. The mitigation measures proposed are as under. Water sprinkling on the roads outside the lease area and also on the common road used by the cluster of trucks. To schedule the transportation timings for the mines by mutual discussions such that more numbers of trucks will not ply at a given time. To reduce the speed of trucks Noise pollution due to cluster and its mitigation Sources and mitigation of Noise: In the cluster situation the only source of noise is due to movement of trucks. This noise can be controlled only by reducing the speed of the trucks and also by scheduling of transportation timings of the mines with mutual understanding. Water Quality Due to the cluster situation there may not be any additional affect on the water regime of the area. Water Requirement- Basis of calculation: For the cluster situation the water requirement is calculated only for the water sprinkling and plantation purposes. The water consumption is taken as 5 liters for one meter of road length, for one trip. The estimate is based on the calculation that 1 M 2 needs 1 liter of water in mist sprinkling. The road width is taken as 5 meters for which 5 liters of water is taken. Thus the total road length is around 900 meters. This patch along with the patches used exclusively by the mines (Outside the lease area) comes to 600 meters approximately. The common patch is taken only to the 500 meters boundary of the cluster. The water requirement is 3000 liters per trip. Envisaging that 5 trips will be sprinkled per day, the total water requirement is 9.0 KLD. Additional 2KLD will be needed for plantation growth. Thus the total demand of the cluster is 11 KLD. Solid Waste- Land reclamation etc: The progressive reclamation plan consists of reclaiming the mined out area by means of aforestation, development of greenbelt and stabilizing the waste dump by constructing toe wall and drainage canal so that no soil/rock creep occurs. Occupational Safety and Health The steps that are proposed in the respective EMPs will suffice for taking care of health of workers, even in cluster situation. Page No. 14

18 This also consists of issuing PPE (Personal Protective Equipments) to all the persons working, and those that are needed for the site specific operations. The following PPE are proposed to be distributed. Plantation Program: The individual quarries had submitted/ Will submit their plantation program details in their respective EMPs. The present proposal is for cluster as a whole. The common road length will be utilized for plantation of local species. It is proposed to plant around 200 plants all along the sides of the road wherever the surface permits. These will be maintained by a person appointed for watering and regular maintenance. Socio-economic Environment Due to cluster situation no additional changes will take place. Only one additional person will be needed for maintenance of the plantation. Disaster Planning The cluster situation will not create any additional chances for disaster to take place. Thus the disaster planning is not needed. Environmental budget for the cluster: The common works that are to be done due to cluster situation are as follows. a. To sprinkle water on the roads (Common) b. To appoint a person for taking care of plantation on common roads c. To purchase and maintain the plants and also recoup the dead plants d. Pot hole filling on the common roads.
