AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY OF THE EDWARDS. REID AND THORBURN TOWNSHIP AREAS, FOR CANADIAN JAVELIN LTD. I. INTRODUCTION 42A15SE EDWARDS 010 A combined airborne EM and magnetometer survey has been completed for Canadian Javelin Ltd* over three blocks of ground in the Timmins area of Ontario. The aircraft employed was the Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited geophysically-equipped de Havilland Otter, registration CF-IGM. The areas surveyed are described as the Edwards Township, Reid Township and Thorburn Township blocks. The final areas laid out by Canadian Javelin field personnel differ somewhat from the original areas described in the contract of May 12, 1964, especially the Edwards block which was enlarged appreciably. The final line-mileage flown totals 700,2 line-miles, distributed as follows: Edwards Township block line-miles Reid Township block line-miles Thorburn Township block i line-miles In all three areas, the line-spacing was 1/8-mile and the mean terrain clearance, 150 feet* CANADIAN AERO unite*

t The survey began on May 16, 1964, and was completed on July 11, Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited field personnel associated with this project were as follows: G. A. Curtis E. Jensen D. Smith T. Appleton J. D. Lloyd R. Sarsfield K. Mcleod D. Graham D* J. Sarazin G* Granger Electronic Technician and Project Manager Pilot Pilot Pilot Aircraft Mechanic Aircraft Mechanic Navigator Electronic Operator, Data Analyst Draftsman author of this report* The project was supervised by A. R* Rattew, P.Eng., Details of the equipment carried on the Otter and an explanation of the recorder charts are provided in Appendix II. Appendix III describes our anomaly rating and anomaly listing procedures. CANADIAN AERO kluitii

. 4 - II. GEOLOGY Geological information on these areas is scarce. They are deeply covered by drift for the most part. The Reid and Thorburn areas are covered by the Ontario Department of Mines preliminary map P.139 at the scale of one inch equals two miles. Most of the Edwards Township block is * covered by O.D.M* preliminary maps P.152 and P,153 at one inch equals %-mile. In the few outcrops which do exist a wide variety of Precambrian rocks have been mapped. They include acidic to basic volcanics, acidic and basic intrusives, quartzite, amphibolite and various gneissic rocks. One sulphide showing with minor chalcopyrite is reported in the western part of Edwards Township, CANADIAN AERO

- 5 - III. RESULTS All EH anomalies have been assigned numbers which are shown on the maps and in the anomaly list, Appendix I. These numbers consist of the line upon which the anomaly occurs, plus letters A, B, C, etc., from south to north or from east to west. Additionally, the main zones of conductivity are assigned reference numbers on the map sheets to,facilitate discussion in this report (numbers l, 2, 3, etc.). The "x" category of anomaly rating is reserved for questionable anomalies and for anomalies which are suspected of being due to surface conductors. Because the Timmins area has great economic potential, we include on the maps, any feature from the EM charts which has a reasonable chance of being a legitimate anomaly. In many parts of the Timmins area, the overburden has a fairly high conductivity, yielding substantial quadrature anomalies. Most of these quadrature anomalies are broad and smooth and many correlate clearly with swamps; these are readily discarded. The sharper quadrature anomalies could derive from either lowconductivity bedrock conductors or narrow, conducting swamps. CANADIAN AERO 1 1 m tt*

Many of these features are included on the maps, and attention is drawn to the possibility of a surface conductor in the "Comments" column of the anomaly listing or in the text of this report. Edwards Township Area V Seven zones of anomalous conductivity have been numbered on this sheet. All of them but one, (zone 3), consist of single-line anomalies. Additionally, there are eleven "x-type" anomalies designated only by their anomaly numbers* Zone lisa triple-peaked anomaly occurring in the vicinity of known sulphide mineralization. The direct magnetic correlation on the centre anomaly suggests an appreciable pyrrhotite content, and there may be a slight magnetic anomaly on the northern peak as well. Zone 2 is a very weak, multiple anomaly, but it is probably legitimate. The O.D.M. geology map shows a north-easterly strike in this vicinity, suggesting that l and 2 may, in fact, be the same conductive zone. The only extensive zone of bedrock conductivity is zone 3, a 3/4-mile-long, multiple-conductor belt. The width of the zone changes drastically from line to line and there is CANADIAN AERO

magnetic correlation with many of the EM anomalies. Chances are good that sulphides will be found in this belt, probably in combination with graphite. The strongest EM response within zone 3 is anomaly 6B. Zones 4, 5, 6, and 7 consist of single-line, broad, quadrature anomalies. The possibility exists that surface conductors are the source of-one or all of these anomalies, but in all cases, there are reasons to suspect some bedrock conductivity contrast. Therefore, in a thorough follow-up programme, these conductors should be explored. Any of the eleven questionable, "x-type", anomalies could warrant exploration if the geological environment is sufficiently encouraging. Strictly on the basis of the anomaly characteristics, our preference among the questionable features is for anomalies FA, 6A, 24A, 24B, and 34A. Reid Township Area Nine zones of anomalous conductivity have been numbered and there are four other "x*type" anomalies shown. Zones l, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 are definite bedrock conductors. Of these, 5, 6, and 9 appear to be related. Note CANADIAN AERO

that information on zone 9 is incomplete and its position is some what uncertain, because it occurs at the end of the lines outside the job boundary. Zone 8 is a good sulphide prospect, a localized feature of high conductivity with a coincident magnetic anomaly* Although zone 2 consists of a single, questionable f- anomaly, we consider that it has a fair chance of being a legitimate bedrock conductor. Zone 3 is a definite anomaly, but it could derive from a surface conductor rather than a bedrock source. Zone 4, consisting of strong, broad, quadrature anomalies, is probably a surface conductor. It is stronger than most, however, and is therefore included on the map. The three "x-type" anomalies 52A, 53A, and 55A, all have similar characteristics: they are in-phase anomalies related to terrain. We consider them poor prospects for bedrock conductivity Anomaly 60A is also a probable surface effect* CANADIAN AERO kimtl*

Thorburn.Township Area Five zones of anomalous conductivity have been numbered on this sheet* Of these, we consider zones l, 2, and 3 * definite bedrock conductors, and zones 4 and 5 good possibilities. Although both the anomalies in zone 4 are questionable, they tend to support each other. i. The characteristics of zone 5 are such that it is questioned as a possible surface conductor* The remaining ten "x-type11 anomalies plotted on this sheet are all strongly suspected of being surface effects or noise effects. Our preference among these is anomaly 10A. CANADIAN AERO

IV. SUMMARY AMD RECOMMENDATIONS Due to the economic potential of this area, all, definite bedrock conductors warrant exploration. Furthermore, if the local geological environment is considered sufficiently encouraging, any of the questionable anomalies could be worth examination. ' ' ' - ' -'' The definite bedrock conductors are as follows: Edwards - l and 3. Reid - ; l, 5,, 6, 7,,8, and 9. Thorburn - l, 2, and 3. A number of other zones have a good chance of being bedrock conductors and we recommend that they be included on the list for mandatory followup. They are as follows: Edwards - 2, 4/5, 6, and 7. Reid - 2 and 3* Thorburn - 4 and 5* There ia a considerable variation in characteristics 4 among the more questionable anomalies which we include on the maps* CANADIAN AERO LIMlTIt

LStrictly on the basis of their geophysical properties, we prefer the following from this group: Edwards anomalies FA, 6A, 24A, 24B, and 34A* Thorburn anomaly 10A. Respectfully submitted, OTTAWA, Ontario, A. R. Rattew, P.Eng., July 28, Geophysicist. CANADIAN AERO \MinffUtl

42A1SSE ,1679 EDWARDS 020 REPOR^ ON ELECTROMAGNETIC SURVEJ8 ' ON THE PROPERTIES OF CANADIAN"JAVELIN 'LTD," EDWARDS TOWNSHIP/OMP." ' INTRODUCTION ' Electromagnetic surveys have been carried out on two separate portions of the large holdings of Canadian Javelin Ltd, ia Edwards township, Timmins area of Ontario* This work is a follow-up to an airborne survey carried out which revealed several interesting anomalies. The following report and accompanying maps des cribe the results of these surveys* PROPERTY AND LOCATION Canadian Javelin Ltd* hold a large group of claims in Edwards, Mortimer and Aurora townships over which an airborne electromagnetic survey was carried out. The following report covers detail electromagnetic surveys on

F PROSPECTING GEOPHYSICS LTD. two separate areas in Edwards township* These are referred to as Map Nos, l and 2v Map No, l covers an area west of the road near the west boundary of Edwards township; The area surveyed is largely within Concession 22 and would cover part of lots 11 and 12. The claims included in this survey are all or parts of , 7971* * and Map No. 2 is situated on the east side of the road that traverses the township and covers the north portions of lots 7 and 3, Concession TTT f and the south portion of the same lots in Concession IX* This area is immediate ly west of what is referred to as Lake No. 3 on the government claim map,, GEOLOGY Rock outcrops are relatively scarce in the town ship but there are some fairly extensive areas of outcrop on Map No* l* This area is shown approximately on the accompanying map, There are also two pits showing sulphide -- ' ::U;n. -. mineralization on the property, T''''; i -. Map 2046, published by the Department of Mines, *

- 3- PROSPECTING GEOPHYSICS LTD. shows the area of Map No, l to be underlain by a complex of volcanics, schists and granite with the apparent trend being northeast* Hap No. 2 would appear to be partially underlain by a gabbro which intrudes the volcanic-*. - 11; ' ' sedimentary rooks*! '! '. GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY RESULTS AND'INTERPRETATION. The electromagnetic survey was carried out using a Ronka Mark TSL electromagnetic unit along the network of lines as shown on the accompanying map. The results are plotted on separate maps on a scale of 200 feet to the inch* -* An examination of Map No. l shows a more or less continuous conductor extending from line #N to line 163 in a general northeast direction. This Bone appears to be faulted or folded between line 48 and 63 and the con ductor id quite weak in this area.' Two trenches containing sulphide mineralization are shown on lines O and 23 which coincide with the conductor* Thus it is apparent that sulphide mineralization is the oause of the conductor. '. '' - The strongest portion of the conductor is on line

PROSPECTING GEOPHYSICS LTD. gs close to the fold where a ratio of 5 is obtained. At the time of writing this report, the writer understands drilling is in progress and that sulphides have been encountered* - ' - - x-\.,., - There are several smaller and weaker, conductors outlined in the survey but their importance will largely depend on the investigation of the main zone* The most important is a parallel conductor Just to the west of the main zone that shows a good ratio of 6 on line 143* Map No. 2 shows a series of lenticular conductive t zones in the northwest corner of the area surveyed. These appear to have a general east-west trend and show as quite good conductors. The overburden is very light and some rock outcrops in the vicinity of the conductors* The ratios of in-phase to out-of-phase are close to 3 to l and there would appear to be an excellent chance that these represent sulphide zones. A one line conductor was found on line 3&E in the reconnaissance work with a good ratio and this may y warrant more work,, l

. 5 ~ PROSPECTING GEOPHYSICS LTD. SURVEY METHODS AND INSTRUMENT DATA.. The electromagnetic survey was carried out using a Ronka Hark IV horizontal loop equipment with a 200 foot coil interval, - ' '""v In the horizontal loop type of survey, both the in-phase and out-of-phase components of the secondary field t are measured, whose special characteristics make possible a fairly accurate evaluation of the conduc tivity. A conductor caused by sulphide mineralization will produce a curve going from positive readings through zero to negative and back again to positive. Both the in-phase and out-of-phase readings show the same general curve* The ratio between the in-phase and out-of-phase readings over a conductor is an indication of the con- ' * ductivity of the body* A good conductor would cause a greater deviation of the in-phase component than the out-of-phase component* She opposite is true of a poor conductor* CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS -,.., The electromagnetic surveys outlined several good conductive zones in both areas which warrant further

i T * 6 * ; PROSPECTING GEOPHYSICS LTD. investigation. A diamond drilling program is already in progress and the writer understands sulphides have been intersected. Any further recommendations on the writer's part would be superfluous as additional^work will no doubt be based on the results obtained*. i ' ' ' - ' i ' ' ' t Que. 25 42A15SE EDWARDS 030 ^Report On The J-IO Claim Group, Edwards Township, Ontario Mav, 1965 This report describes the work conducted by and for Canadian Javelin Limited on a group of 37 unpatented mineral claims situated in the west central portion of Edwards Township, larder Lake Mining Division, District of Cochrane, Ontario. The largest portion of this claim group was purchased b-- C ana..-an Javelin fr^m Messrs. P. Ferderber and J. Bergmann in April and M , and the remainder of the group was acquired from Mr. C. McAllister in June of The entire property has been designated the J-10 Claim Group by the company.

- 2 - Purp ose: The purpose of this report is to describe and evaluate the exploration activities conducted on the J-10 Claim Group during the 19*64 field season..lo c.-., i ion and Acce s s: The following approximately forty acre claims :- ^' L incl. L-7996S only L incl. The s.:b-division of Edwards Township, the centre of which is about 6 miles north of Iroquois Falls, has been annulled.

w-ever, if this township were sub-divided, the J-10 Claim Group would lie in Lots 10, 11 and 12, Concession IV, the east half of Lot 10, Lot 9; Lot 8 and the west half of Lot 7, north half of Con cession Ilh and the east half of Lot H, southernmost quarter of Concession V. (See enclosed claim group map) An excellent gravel road, owned by the Abitibi Power and Paper Company and extending from Iroquois Falls to Stimson Station on the C. N. R. Northern Line, roughly bisects the property. Permits to use this road must be obtained from the Abitibi Co. in Iroquois Falls. Tractor trails extend from Mileage 6 on the Abitibi Road into the centers o J.-.e eastern and western halves of the claim group. Topography and Cover: The ground i.i the portion of the J- 10 claim group which lies east of the Abitibi Road is generally flat and poorly drained, consequently dense alder swamps are quite prevalent. An outcrop zone exists in the vicinity of claim number L however, and the top of the outcro;; is some 30 to 40 feet above the surrounding terrain. In the areas which are not covered by alder swamps, the

cover consists of second growth spruce and jackpine, alder, poplar and birch. The ground in the western portion of the claim group is ab. t 1/4 covered by outcrop, the top of which is probably more than 50 feet higher than the average elevation of the Abitibi Road in the vicinity of Mile 6. The ground is well-drained and, therefore, relatively dry. The trees consist mainly of white and black birch, poplar, and second growth spruce and pine. The surface rights of the entire claim group are held by the Abitibi Company as forest reserve. Fir-' ".Program: The J-l O claim group was acquired by Canadian Javelin Limited in April, May and June of 1964; consequently, no field work has been performed on this property by or for Canadian Javelin prior to May of The Javelin program consisted of: Air borne magnetic and electromagnetic survey; 2) Line cutting; 3) Ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys; 4) Geological mapping; 5) Diamond drilling.

Each of the above listed phases of the field program is considered below. Airborne Survey: A total of 18 line miles of airborne magnetic and electro magnetic survey was flown within the boundaries of the J- 10 claim 6roup by Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited, Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, dui-~g the month of June A De Haviland Otter, carryi;.^ the necessary geophysical equipment, flew north-south linos at l/s mile intervals and at a foot altitude. The electromagnetic data was interpreted by A. R. Rattew, author of the report entitled, "Airborne Geophysical Survey of the Edwards, Reid and Thorburn Township Areas, for Canadian Javelin Ltd., by Canadian Aero Mineral Surveys Limited, Project No. 4026, 28th July, 1964". This report bears the Canadian Javelin file number 312. The airborne survey indicated the presence of three signif icant conductive zone,, numbered "l", "2" and "3" by C. A. M. S. -ioncs l and 2 lie wholly within the J-10 Group, and zone 3 lies

. -..rtially within the group and in the adjacent ground to the north and east. 32 The recorded magnetic values range from 1700 to 7000 gammas, contrasting with a range of approximately gammas as presented on the Ed-,.,:ds Township portion of the Department of Mines fc Technical Surveys Aero Magnetic Map No. 302-G (Advance), the Iroquois Falls Sheet. The 'Most prominent magnetic feature determined by the airborne survey is the northwesterly trending magnetic high in the easternmost portion of the claim group, in the vicinity of the number 3 conductive zone. This magnetic high is undoubtedly ca.used by the north and northwesterly trending basic rocks which underlie this portion of the property. In the western half of the J-l O group, the airborne magnetic responses are not as conclusive nor pronounced. A broad northward trending lione f?proximately 1000 gammas above background covers the outcrop area. The presence of considerable quantities of acidic intrusive s and meta sediments in close proximity to the more basic rocks has probably reduced the high airborne magnetic responses which would normally be produced by diabase, basalt and gabbro. The general north-northeasterly trend of this magnetic zone is, however, quite probably caused by the basic rocks which also trend

north or north-northeast. J-.rru Cutting: The line cutting was performed prior to the initiation of the ground geophysical surveys, diamond drilling and geologic mapping. This phase of the program was sub-contracted to Adam Maskovitch by Prospecting Geophysics Limited. In the western half of the J-l O group, the cut lines run normal to the general trend of the geology, i. e. N60 O W. The zero point on the base line is located in the northeast corner of claim number L The base line bearing N30^ E is 6400 feet in length, and crosslines have been cut at 200 and 400 foot intervals for a total of 92, 900 feet. In the eastern portion of the property, the lines have been cut normal to the east-we st trending conductive zone outlined by the airborne survey, i. e. due north-south. The zero point on this baseline is located at the corner common to claims L-79949, L-79950, L and L The base line'bearing is N9Oo E and is 3200 feet in length, with crosslines at 200 and 400 foot '..itervals for a total of 36, 800 feet.

] Ground Electromagnetic Survey: The electromagnetic survey was performed by Prospecting Geophysics Limited of 3518 Vendcme Avenue, Montreal. The field program was conducted from 10 June to 2 July by J. Leclaire and Y. Robitaille, using a Ronka Mark IV horizontal loop electro magnetic unit with a 200 foot coil separation. The resulting electromagnetic data was interpreted by H. J. Bergmann, P. Eng. of Prospecting Geophysics Limited, and presented to Canadian Javelin as the "Report on Electromagnetic Surveys on the Properties of Canadian Javelin Ltd., Edwards Town ship, Ontario. " Bergmann's report carries Canadian Javelin file number 307. The EM survey outlined a more or less continuous con ductor "A" on the western half of the property, extending from line f 00 N to lo H- 00 S. This conductor is possibly faulted in an eastwest direction between lines S and 6 + OOS. A secondary and nearly parallel conductive zone, consisting of two conductors "B" and "- ", has been outlined at W on lines 10 + O OS through * Letters "A", "B" "C" etc. are Canadian Javelin designations.

S. Additional conductive zones were located near W between lines N and 8 4- DON ("D"), and between W and W between CON and 15 -f 00 N {"F"), between 2 -r SOW and W between 21 -i- DON and 25 -f 00 N ("C"), and at W on line OOS ("E"). On the eastern portion of the J- 10 group, the EM survey outlined a series of three lenticular conductive zones within the confines of the property. Three additional conductive areas were, olineated, but unfortunately these are located on the adjacent ground to the north and east, The three conductors are located between line O 4-00 E and li 4-00 E, from O 4-00 N to 8 4- OOS. (See Bergmann's Map No. 2). K. J. Bergmann recommended additional work on all of the anomalies outlined by the survey, as he -felt that the majority of these anomalies are caused by sulfide mineralization in the uncle -lying rock. The results of the E2vi survey will be correlated with the magnetics and geology below. Jaanatfia

Magnetic Survey: The ground magnetometer survey was conducted over the J-10 property during June and July A Jalander Moael W Vertical field magnetometer was operated in the field by W. Voce irom Davison, Michigan and W. Vickers from Porquis, Ontario. A total of 21. l miles of magnetometer line was run, 26 base stations established and over 2450 readings taken. The magnetic data has been reduced and plotted on the two enclosed Iso Magnetic maps at a scale of one inch to 200 feet. The rr agnetic ridges and valleys of the western portion of the group trend generally north and south, which is conformable with the geology as observed in outcrop. The magnetic highs are quite definitely associated with the diabasic, gabbroic and basaltic zones, and the extreme magnetic highs are quite probably caused by the presence of pyrrhotite in the r.-:i ralized shear zones, which are located in meta sediments adja cent to the bas^c rock ::ones.

This is illustrated in the cases of EM anomalies "A",., B n j,, B,, 1; I.E II and the s outh end of "D", in which the magnetic highs and conductors are practically coincident, The magnetic data has been used to a degree in the west half of J-l O in interpolating the geologic contacts where field observations were not possible. In the eastern half of the claim group, the magnetics suggest a north-east or east-northeast trend for the underlying rock and this attitude is observed in the outcrop. The direction of the magnetic highs and lows does not appear to be related to the conductive zones delineated by the EM survey, but appears to be more closely related to the geology as observed in the outcrop. There is no surface indication of the cause of the over 12, 000 gamma anomalous zone on lines 2 -j- 00 E, E and E, between 400 and 600 feet south of the base line, although the shape is suggestive of folding of highly magnetic material.round a s.nall diorite intrusion. (See geology map). The area of - ogative readings located on lines O E, 4 4- oo and C 4-00 ^, just south of the extremely high readings, is quite

l probably due to the di-pole magnetic effect. The two nearly parallel, northeasterly trending 2000 to 3000 gamma zones are probably caused by the presence of under lying basic or intermediate rocks having a general northeast strike.,ge o l o gy: t The outcrop areas of the J-l O claim group, which were associated with the conductive zones outlined by the EM survey, were n.apped by M. W. Bartos and the author. Mr. Bartos 1 mapping was primarily concentrated on the eastern half of the property. The geology is presented on the enclosed maps at a scale of 200 feet to the inch. The area has been mapped by the Ontario Department of Mines and presented on O. D. M. preliminary maps 152 and 153. On die western portion of the property, the rocks consist chiefly ~ Archean meta sediments largely graywackes and phyllites, and associated gneisses and schists. These rocks strike from N 20 O E to N40 O E, and dip at 70O to 80 0 in either direction. The meta sediments have been cut by northward striking

r diabases, basalts and gabbros. The acid intrusive syenite and intermediate diorite appear to be more closely associated, (i. e. more conformable in attitude) with the meta sediments, however, the relative ages of these rocks are not known. General northeast shearing, conformable with the attitude of the rock has taken place in the meta sediments. In the three observed locations on J-l O (west) the shear zones are mineralized with pyrite, pyrrhotite and very minor amounts of chalcopyrite. The conductors outlined by the EM survey can easily be attributed to these mineralized shear zones. The outcrops mapped on J-l O east consist chiefly of very fine grained meta sediments and possibly indurated volcanic ash, striking N 15 O E to N 40 O E, and dipping from 75 O SE to vertical and 75 0NE. These rocks have been cut by a northerly striking gabbro dike and the gabbro - meta sediment contact zone appears to be dioritic. The conductive zones outlined by the EM survey have been proven by the diamond drilling to be caused by graphitic shear zones with minor pyrite- pyrrhotite mineralization.

From the foregoing data, it may be seen that in the -western portion of the J- 10 Group, the conductors are caused by sulfide mineralization in shear zones in meta sediments, and that additional sulfide mineralization is found in chloritized sheared zones and also associated with quartz veins. The drilling on J- 10 east however, indicated that the con ductors were caused by the presence of graphitic shear zones, bearing minor sulfide mineralization, situated in the meta sediments associated with fine grained, thinly banded tuffs and ash. In all cases, where ever mineralization in the core exceeded lofo, the core was split and assayed. Sample intervals were generally maintained at 5. O feet or less. From the assay results it may be seen that although consider able sulfide mineralization was encountered, in the core, none of this could be considered as being of commercial grade. Conclusions: The 1964 field program concerning the J- 10 claim group consisted of airborne magnetic and electromagnetic surveying, line

cutting, ground magnetic and electromagnetic surveying, geologic mapping and diamond drilling. The airborne survey outlined three conductive zones -which were associated with outcrop areas, and two of the three zones- {l St 2) were associated with a known occurrence of sulfide mineral ization. The magnetic phase of the airborne survey indicated general north-south magnetic trends within the claim group. These trends are undoubtedly caused by the presence of north striking diabase dikes on the property. The ground electromagnetic survey, of course, served to definitely outline Ihe conductive zones which had previously been indicated by the airborne survey. This detailed program resulted in delineating twelve separate conductors, varying in length from 200 feet to 1400 feet. Seven of the twelve conductive zones thus outlined, were considered to be favorable diamond drill targets and these were drilled shortly after the completion of the survey.

* Surface observation and diamond drilling indicated that the conductive anomalies could be attributed to sulfide mineralization associated with shears and quartz veins in the meta sediments in the western portion of the J- 10 Group, and that southeast'erly trending graphitic shears with minor sulfide mineralization in north easterly trending meta sediments and tuffs were responsible for the anomalies outlined in the eastern portion of the property. The coincidence of magnetic highs and conductors in J-10/W is very pronounced in the cases of EM anomalies "A", "B" 8z "B 1 " "E' and the south end of "D". This situation is quite probably due to the presence of considerable pyrrhotite in sulfide mineralized shears. It is more difficult to correlate the magnetics and conductors in J-10/E as the conductors were proven to be caused by graphite, with minor sulfides, which of course would not produce high magnetic responses. It is difficult to associate the conductors with any significant magnetic "lows" as the conductors and magnetic trends are practically at right angles to each other. The mineralization throughout the claim group appears to be

definitely associated with the meta sediments and/or fine grained volcanics which trend generally in a northeasterly direction. These sediments are cut by northerly striking diabase and gabbro, and in the western portion of the property are associated with syenites and diorites. The shearing in J-10/W appears to be conformable with the structure, whereas in J-10/E it is nearly at right angles to the' structural trends. Recommendations: As the J- 10 Claim Group has been thoroughly surveyed by geophysical methods, during the 1964 season, it is felt that further work of this nature is unwarranted. The remaining course of action would be to perform addit ional diamond Irilling. However, as all of the conductors were drilled on J-10/East and these were found to be caused by graphitic shear zones, no further drilling on this portion of the property is justified. If the adjacent ground to the north could be obtained on a reasonable option basis, it might be worthwhile to check each of the two anomalies north of the base line with a shallow diamond drill hole. It is extremely likely, however, that these anomalies

T are also caused by graphite, and that drilling them would be of academic significance only. On the other hand, the picture in regard to J-1Q/W is somewhat more encouraging, as there are at least -three remaining possible diamond drill targets. These are: 1) the northern portion of conductor "A"; 2) the south end of conductor "D 1, and 3) either conductors "E" or " F". Anomalies "A", "D" and "E" are associated with magnetic highs which are indicative of pyrrhotite. Drilling the three conductors enumerated above would probably prove that they are caused by pyrite-pyrrhotite minerali zation in shear zones. The copper-nickel values would probably be comparable to those obtained in the first seven holes. This property should be held as long as we have sufficient man day credits to do so. It is, therefore, recommended that the three targets mentioned above be drilled in a future field season to determine the causes of these anomalies and the drilling results

72 - considered prior to making any decision to hold or drop the J- 10 Claim Group upon the expiration of the man day credits. Respectfully Submitted, v * si Geoj-ogist. May 1965
