2 SUMMARY Can-Lake Explorations Ltd., consultant for Kelvin Energy Ltd., supervised a diamond drilling program near the junction of Lost Horse Creek and the Kettle River. The hole reached a depth of metres and metres of Kettle River Formation was cored. Ninety-nine per cent of the core was recovered. No primary or secondary uranium-bearing minerals were observed. Roke Oil Enterprises Ltd., under subcontract to Can-Lake Explorations Ltd., logged the drill hole with a gamma ray - neutron sonde. McPhar model TV-1A spectrometer measurements on the drill core interval corresponding to the anomalous Roke log values indicates potassium and lesser amounts of thorium are re- sponsible for the gamma radiation. The spectrometer did not detect measurable amounts of uranium in the core. ii

5 NTRODUCTON 1 i The Ken claim was staked by Dale E. Paulf for the owner and operator Kelvin Energy Ltd.. This claim group was staked as the geological environment is similar to the "Blizzard" uranium discovery (Figure 2). Diamond drill hole Ken is a reconnaissance drill hole for the purpose of identifying po- tential uranium enrichment zones in the Kettle River Formation. Location and Access The Ken claim group is located in the Kettle River Valley in south central British Columbia (Figure 1). A diamond drill was mobilized from Westbridge on secondary and gravel roads for 27.4 kilometres. Here, the drill was driven for 1.6 kilometres through the Kettle River and adjacent private property of Mr. M. Reiswig, with his consent. From the eastern boundary of the Reiswig Property, the drill was dragged with a model D 8 Cater- pillar bulldozer for a distance of 8.1 kilometres up the Lost Horse Creek Valley on logging roads. The drill site is located on a wide part of this road. The Ken drillhole is located on the Ken 3 claim in the Ken claim group and is metres south and metres west of the number one and legal corner post for the Ken 3 claim (Figure 2). Summary of Drilling Can-Lake Explorations Ltd. contracted D.W. Coates Enterprises Ltd. to carrying out diamond drilling. The drill cored a vertical "N Q" size (75.7 millimetre diameter) hole to a depth Of metres below surface. The drilling started November 12, 1978 and November 17, Geologist, R. Gunn supervised the drilling for Can-Lake Explorations (Appendix A). J. Lund (P.Eng.1 supervised the report writing (Appendix E).

8 DETALED TECHNCAL DATA AND NTZRPRETATON Drilling Can-Lake Explorations Ltd. contracted D. W. Coates Enterprises Ltd. A Longyear model 44 wire line diamond drill was employed. From surface, "N W" casing was driven in an "H" triconed hole 26.8 metres through glacial overburden and talus and anchored in bedrock. The drilling production averaged 3 1 metres per 1 2 hour shift. cent of the "N Q" size (47.6 metres) bedrock core was recovered. Maintaining circulation of drilling fluid was a problem. The fluid escaped through the porous and permeable coarse-grained sandstones and along open fractures. The low values on the neutron log (Ap- pendix B) indicates the presence of water and porosity. No acid dip tests were taken. Ninety-nine per General Geology The Ken drill hole is metres deep, has a surface elevation of metres and bottomed in Paleozoic Anarchist Group andesite tuff (Little, 1957). This andesite tuff is uncomformably overlain by the Cenozoic Kettle River Formation (Daly, 1912). This drill hole intersected metres of the Kettle River Formation. Normal faults (Monger, 1967) and an easterly dip have made the Formation stratigraphic thickness greater than the true thickness. The Kettle River Formation is unconformably overlain by a 26.8 metre thick mantle of recent glacial till and talus. A columnar presentation of the lithology is found in Appendix C. The bedding in outcrops of the Kettle River Formation dips from 19 to 25 degrees to the east near the drill hole. n the core this dip is 22 degrees.

9 Economic G P o 1 o g y The Kettle River Formation Ken exhibits good permeability and porosity. At the Blizzard uranium discovery, a fossil plant-bearing siltstone member overlies the uranium-bearing rocks. This member is not found in the Ken core. Scintrex model BGS-1SL scintillometer readings of the recovered core varied from 50 to 60 counts per second (cps). No anomalous equilibrated uranium was detected. Roke Oil Enterprises Ltd. completed a down hole gamma ray - neutron survey of the Ken hole. This geophysical instrument is more sensitive to gamma radiation than the BGS-lSL scintillometer. The background value of the Kettle River Formation on the Roke log (Appendix B) is 200 cps. The high values do not exceed 400 cps. and are associated with siltstones. McPhar model TV-1A spectrometer T, T2, and T3 readings were used to determine uranium, thorium and potassium ratios. This spectrometer was used on the anomalous siltstones. The highest peak on the Roke log is 400 cps at a depth of 236 metres. The BGS-1SL scintillometer was 73 cps. The TV-1A spectro- meter T value was 1900 counts per minute and represents total count radiation. The T2 value is 125 counts per minute and represents gamma radiation from both U and Th. The T3 value is 65 and represents gamma radiation due to thorium. deally, when the effect of background is removed, this instrument calibration permits the following calculation: (1) T2-3.5 (T3) = U counts per minute substituting into equation (1) after correcting for background gives the following: (15) = U counts per minute = -27.5

10 P- Therefore, garma radiation due to uranium is insignificant and be1o-x the accuracy of this spectrometer and radioactivity in this sample is due to potassium minor thorium. The spectrometer values for all the Roke log gamma peaks indicate the lack of economic uranium min- eralization. The core was not chemically assayed. Core boxes are stacked approximately 1 kilometre from the drill site, beside the access road (Figure 2 ). Cost Statement For Drill Hole Ken Kelvin Energy Ltd. commissioned Can-Lake Explorations Ltd. the contract to carry out uranium exploration activities on the Ken claim group. Can-Lake Explorations Ltd. commissioned sub-contracts with: (a) Mr. E. Lautard to prepare the drill site, haul the drill equipment on the logging roads and conduct reclamation of the drill site: (b) D. W. Coates Enterprises Ltd. to drill the Ken drill hole; and, (c) Roke Oil Enterprises Ltd. to log the hole with a gamma ray - neutron sonde. These and other costs are itemized in Appendix D. The total cost is $40,

11 SUPNARY AND CONCLUSONS :T3 k drill hole reading at a total depth of metres and intersecting metres of the Kettle River Formation was completed near the junction of the Kettle River and Lost Horse Creek. The Kettle River Formation appears to be a favourable porous and permeable host rock for uranium accumulation but no primary or secondary uranium-bearing minerals were observed. nitial radiometric logging of the core with a Scintrex model BGS-1SL scintillomter indicated a low level of gamma radiation. The downhole gamma ray - neutron log indicated some relatively higher intervals of gamma radiation of the Kettle River Formation. When these intervals of core were tested with a McPhar TV-1A spectrometer, the source of gamma radiation was found to be potassium and thorium..
