4 1 NTRODUCTON This report discusses a pulse electromagnetometer survey which was conducted over two strong induced polarization anomalies to try and detect any conductive zones which might indicate massive sulphide mineralization. The pulse electromagnetometer (PEM) was used for this survey as it is not as sensitive to topography and will detect poorer conductors than conventional systems. t will penetrate conductive overburden and will search to a depth of $ of the coil separation depending upon the conductor configuration. PROPERTY The survey was conducted within the boundaries of mineral claims Juan A, H and as illustrated on Figure A. Figure B shows the location of the survey lines with respect to the induced polarization anomalies. LOCATON AND ACCESS The Juan claims are located at the southern end of Vancouver sland, some 45 miles west of Victoria near the little logging community of Jordan River. Latitude 48O29'N, Longitude 124OO5'W, N.T.S. 92 C/8E. Access to the survey area is via the Tamsky logging road, some 1.3 miles west of Jordan River, for a distance of some 3 miles. $%.ha & %&&? 5 2 GENERAL GEOLOGY The southern tip of Vancouver sland is underlain by an extensive assemblage of volcanic and marine sediments known as the Metchosin Formation of Eocene Age. The Metchosin series consists of a variable succession of interbedded lithologies - basalt, diabase, including porphyritic varieties, pillow lavas, flow breccias and both fine and coarse bedded tuffs and agglomerates which strike in a general direction of N600 to TO0 west and dip 15' to 30 northeastward. Large stock and sill-like masses of gabbro intrude the Metchosin series throughout the Sooke-Jordan River area. rregular intrusions of granitic material, hornblende granite, feldspar porphyry and diorite are believed to represent differentiates of the Sooke gabbro. Copper mineralization in the area may possibly be genetically related to the gabbro but occurs in shear zones in hornblendized basalt along the contacts with the & w& GEOPHYSCAL CONSULTNG C SERVCES LTD. c

6 -. gk 8 GEOPHYSCAL CONSULTNG G SERVCES LTD SURVEY SPECFCATONS Survey Grid Figure B outlines the areas of interest as delineated by an induced polarization surpey. Superimposed on this plan are the traverse lines surveyed by the PEM method. Some 19,500 feet of surveying were conducted. Pulse Electromagnetometer Survey The PEM system is used primarily in the horizontal loop configuration. The transmitter consists of a transmit loop 6 meters in diameter that is laid out horizontally on the ground. The loop is energized by a pulse of 15 to 20 amps at 24 volts. The current is turned off by a special ramp circuit. The on-off time is 10.8 ms. The receive coil is generally spaced meters from the transmit loop. The signal on the recieve coil is sampled, averaged and then stored during the reading interval. One sample is taken of the primary pulse and eight samples are taken of the secondary field during the off time. Time synchronization is by radio link or cable.

7 c g& 8 w&& GEOPHYSCAL CONSULTNG & SERVCES LTD. 4 - The eight channels of secondary field information are equivalent to a wide spectrum of frequency information from approximately 2 KH, to 16 H, which allows for determination of overburden effects and penetration of conductive ove,rburden. Since the secondary field is measured directly during the primary field off time, the pulse method is free of geometrical restrictions between the transmit and receive coil positions, such as topography interference and coil alognment. This survey was conducted with a coil separation of 200 feet. Some 3.7 line miles of surveying were conducted. DSCUSSON OF R2SULTS The results are shown on Figures 1-10 inclusive. n each Figure, Channel 1 contains the highest frequency data and Channel 8 the lowest. Thus, Channel 1 will tend to reflect surficial conductive formations and the outer edges of a conductor while the lower Channels reflect the deeper, more conductive sections. Examination of the data profiles Figures 1-10 showed no inflections characteristic of an electromagnetic conductor. Minor variations were obtained on lines 2223 and 2383 around 8s which showed some similarity in response pattern within the high induced

9 a b B $ F 5 polarization chargeability area and thus may possibly relate to minor changes in conductivity. The high chargeability area located between lines 254E and 2783 was tested near station C21S by a diamond drill hole which located two 12 foot sections containing 10-15% pyrite. These zones were not detected by the electromagnetic system. Thus, the sulphide grains would appear to be euhedral and disconnected making this type of mineral zone particularly amenable to the induced polarization method. CONCLUSON AND RECOM4ENDA T ONS A limited program of pulse electromagnetometer surveying was conducted over a strong induced polar- ization anomaly on the Juan mineral claims to try and detect any conductive zone. El0 conductors were detected. Thus the induced polarization method would appear to be the most effective system to use, confining use of the PEM or HEM to check surveys.
