INTRODUCTION The Bell Property is one of several in the Quesnel Trough staked by Utah Mines Ltd. based on the presence of aeromagnetic highs. These are known t'o have a spatial association with zoned alkalic stocks. A number of Au discoveries have been made in the Trough in pyrite zones associated with these stocks. The exploration concept is based on the premise that the QR and Cariboo-Bell Deposits were found to be associated with aeromagnetic highs and found by reconnaissance geochemical soil sampling spaced one mile apart over and in a down-ice direction of the most recent glaciation. The QR Deposit is at the hydrothermal alteration front in a pyroclastic unit sandwiched between argillic sedimentary units. LOCATION The Bell Mineral Claim is located at Bells Lake, 10 kilometers west-southwest of the town of Horsefly, B.C. (~ig. 1). The co-ordinates of the claim area are 52O18'N 'and '40"W on N.T.S. 93 A/5- ACCESS Access to the claims is via the main Horsefly-Williams Lake highway, which passes through the extreme northwest corner of the claim. A dirt road leads off the pavement near the northwest corner of the claim and crosses the claims in a southeasterly direction to Bells Lake. The LCP is located at the junction of the dirt road and the old highway which is west of the new road, 12.2 kilometers from Horsefly. PHYSIOGRAPHY The property is situated within the Fraser Plateau on the boundary of the Quesnel Highlands to the east. The terrain on the Bell claims is essentially flat, having a relief of about 20m. Drainage is very poor. Bells Lake and some adjacent boggy ground occupies most of the southeastern quadrant of the claims. Much of the remaining area is forested and small areas are being logged. The east central area is grazing land.

HISTORY R.B. Campbell of the G.S.C. prepared a geological map of the Quesnel Lake map area (93 A) from mapping done between 1959 and In 1967 an airborne magnetic survey was published by the B.C. Department of Mines. In 1980 the G.S.C. and B.C. Department of Mines conducted a regional geochemical survey over map sheet 93 A. Discovery of the Cariboo-Bell Cu-Au porphyry deposit in the early 1970's stimulated systematic exploration activity in the vicinity of intrusive bodies and magnetic anomalies for similar deposits. In 1981 a new staking rush was sparked by the discovery of the QR gold deposit, coupled with release of regional geochemical data. Stratabound Au mineralization have also been discovered at Frasergold (~ureka) and Jamboree (~alaken, Simpson, 1984). CLAIM DATA The Bell Claim was staked on September 21, 1983 and recorded in Quesnel on October 11, 1983 by R. Durfeld for Utah Mines Ltd. The claim is a 20 unit metric claim, in the Cariboo Mining Division, the location of which is depicted in Figure 1. WORK PROGRAM During November, 1983 the Bell claim was soil sampled along 3 east-west lines spaced 1000 metres apart. Samples were collected at 50 metre intervels by Durfeld Geological Management Ltd. in Williams Lake, B.C. A total of 102 samples were collected. In August, 1984 Utah personnel spent a day to follow-up two anomalous soil Au values by more detailed sampling. Thirty-nine samples were collected. The prospect is situated in the western portion of the Quesnel Trough structural - petrologic province at the western margin of the older Cache Creek Group and possibly some Tertiary plateau basalts. There are no rock exposures on the property but it is believed to be underlain by a thick sequence of submarine volcanics, pillow basalts, agglomerates, polylithic volcanic breccias, discontinuous carbonate horizons and several thousand feet of subarea1 volcanics, consisting of leucite bearing basalt and related flow top breccias, conglomerate sandstone, tuff, laharic and limestone pebble conglomerate.
Several synovolcanic stocks of diorite, syenodiorite and syeni te occur within the volcanic sequence and represent eroded conduit zones from which much of the flows and breccia materials were erupted. GEOCHEMISTRY SAMPLING PROCEDURE As a rapid means of assessing the mineral potential on the Bell claims, which lack drainage, 102 soil samples were collected at 50 metre intervals along 3 east-west lines, B-1, B-2, B-3, 1 kilometer apart. The two anomalous Au values on line B-1 were followed-up with 39 samples also taken at 50 metre intervals along 3 short lines, B-1.05, B -, B-1.2, spaced 50 metres, 100 metres and 200 metres, respectively, south of the original line. Sample sites were positioned assuming a 300 direction of glacial movement (P. Fox, 1983, personal communication). About 200 grams of sample material was taken with a mattock from the "B" horizon, generally at a depth of 15 to 20 centimeters. Where not available, material from the "C" horizon was collected. The material was placed in water-resistant kraft paper envelopes. In the lab the samples were dried and sieved to -80 mesh. ANALYTICAL PROCEDURE The samples collected in 1983 were analysed by Chemex for Au, Cu and As. The 1984 samples were analysed by ACME for Au, Ag, As, Sb, Cu and Pb. Au analyses were performed by atomic absorption techniques. At Chemex a 5 gm sample is ashed at 800 C for an hour, twice digested with aqua regia, taken up in 25% HCl, extracted into MIBK and analysed with a detection limit of 10 ppb. At ACME the procedure differs by using a 10 gm sample and Methyl Isobutylketone instead of HC1. The detection limit is 5 ppb. At Chemex AA procedures were used to analyse for As and Cu to a detection limit of 1 ppm. For As a 1.0 gm sample is digested with a mixture of perchloric and nitric acid to fumes of perchloric acid. The solution is diluted, acidified and reduced with K1, mixed with NaBN4 and analysed by flameless AA. For Cu a 1.0 gm sample is digested with 70% HC104 and concentrated HNOg for 2 hours, diluted with H20 and analysed with a Techtron AA 5 unit. At ACME Ag, As, Sb, Cu and Pb were analysed by the Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma (ICP) method using a Jerrel-Ash unit. Detection limits are 0.1 ppm for Ag, 1 ppm for Cu, Pb and 2 ppm for As, Sb. A 0.5 gram sample was digested with 3 parts HC1, 1 part HN03 and 3 parts H20 at 95OC for 1 hour and diluted to 10 ml with H20.
DATA TREATMENT To determine anomalous levels for As and Cu, data were subjected to standard graphical means ( ~ i ~ s 2. and 3). Plots shox lognormal population distributions. The plots are a composite of all sox Utah properties in the Quesnel Trough involving 1260 samples. The following threshold and anomalous values were determined: Copper Arsenic Since only four Au considered anomalous. background - < 62 ppm threshold pprn anomalous - > 124 pprn background - < 8 pprn threshold pprn anomalous - > 13 pprn results are above detection, these must all be DISCUSSION OF RESULTS Soil sample results are presented in Appendix I and are plotted on 1:10,000 scale maps included in the report. T'ney do not reveal any extensive anomalies or any correlation among the elements. There are two anomalous gold samples of 100 and 300 ppb located on the northern geochemical line (B-1) along the northern claim boundary and a 10 ppb value on B-2, 1 kilometer to the south, that could indicate the presence of some gold mineralization in the area. The 100 ppb value is associated with a 33 pprn As and a 168 pprn Cu result. The follow-up sampling failed to indicate any coherent anomalous trend which suggests that the values on line B-1 are erratic and probably not significant. Only one Au result, 25 ppb on line B-1.2, was above detection. Apart from the 33 pprn As value the highest As result is only 6 ppm. Only two scattered anomalous Cu results occur and Ag, Sb and Pb values are uniformly low.

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS The property straddles the western margin of the Quesnel Trough, a structural-petrological province which hosts a few stratabound Au deposits and the 'Cariboo Bell Cu-Au porphyry deposit. These are associated with alkalic stocks and magnetic highs. It is conceivable that the aeromagnetic high on the property represents an intrusive body beneath the glacial cover. Three scattered anomalous Au values were detected by the initial soil sampling phase. Follow-up on two of these resulted in only one Au result (25 ppm) above detection. It is probable that the results are erratic, possibly derived from glacial debris. Ag, As, Sb, Cu and Pb results are uniformly low. Further limited soil sampling is recommended: to follow-up anomalous Au results on lines B-1.2 and B-2; along line B-1.5 which should be flagged and sampled at 50 metre intervals. Only about 45 analyses would be required for this program if only alternate samples are submitted from line B-1.5. Analyses for Au, Ag, 0.1, As and perhaps Bi are recommended.
