S2B09NE HAGEY 010 Geology of the Cal-Chris Group Lincoln Resources Inc. J.C.Davies \ 1985 (\ Jf RECEIVED SEP l MINING LANDS SECTION

Introduction The area covered by the eastern four claims of the Cal-Chris Group were ^originally part of the Frank West property. Between 1974 and 1950, trenching and diamond drilling were carried out, but records of this work are not available. J.F.West permitted the mineral rights to revert to the Crown and the area was restaked by D.Calvert in Additional claims were added to the west and the claim group, held by D.Calvert and D.E.Christiansen, optioned in 1983 to GLE Resources Ltd. A grid was cut and a magnetic survey was conducted. Lincoln Resources Inc. subsequently obtained the property from GLE Resources Ltd. was Property The Cal-Chris Group consists of eleven claims: TB S, , , and 91, and Location and Access All of the claims lie between Highway 11 and Middle Shebandowan Lake, at a point about 85km west of Thunder Bay. Access is readily obtained from the Highway or Lake, or from cottage-access private roads. Topography Relief in the area is estimated to be less than 30m. A thin cover of glacial drift occurs on most of the hills but the orientation of the hills is parallel to structural trends in bedrock. The shore of Middle Shebandowan Lake consists almost entirely of glacial debris, but many of the boulders are angular and locally derived. An alder swamp/muskeg extends approximately east through the northern part of claims ,675735, and with drainage both to the south Un claim ) and east (in claim ). A forest fire in May.984, was largely confined by the swamp on the north and cottage-access roads on the south. Grid and Base Map A grid was established over the entire claim group, with the exception of cottage lots. The baseline was cut at a bearing of 107 degrees ar.d cross-lines were cut at 60m intervals. The 1984 fire devasted an area

-2- extending east from 780E to the eastern edge of the Group, and beyond; within the burn the grid i s a lmost impossible to follow. The base nap was derived from air photographs at a scale of 1:3960 and was photo-reduced to 1:5000. As several photographs were required to obtain complete coverage, minor distortion has occurred, but the basentap is consistent with measured distances. The position of cottages has not been shown. General Geology Altered, mafic to intermediate metavolcanic rocks predominate in the area. These are mainly massive to pillowd, very f ine grained flows which, where best exposed in the burn, have weathered surfaces that are mottled buff, grey and green. Pink weathered surfaces are due to abundant fine disseminated hematite and green coloration is due to epidote. In unburned areas exposures are mostly grey weathering; brown or buff weathered surfaces typically indicate the presence of iron carbonate. Primary features are poorly preserved. Partial pillow rims are evident in some outcrops, and both pillow breccia and finer fragnentais occur locally. Recognizable bedding is virtually absent. In the western part of the Group felsic flows appear to form a distinct layer of the order of 100m wide. These are best exposed to the west of the Group where the altered rocks are yellowish green and contain minor quartz veinlets. Felsic flows outcrop on the shore near the east boundary of claim Their eastward continuity has not been established, but it is possible that the sheared felsic volcanics on Lynx Island are stratigraphically equivalent. Felsic flows and fragmentals are also present in claims 6154S7 and 88, but do not appear to be as siliceous as those in the western paart of the Group. Some interlaying of these rocks with more mafic volcanics is apparent. A series of felsic porphyry lenses lie to the south of, and approximatelyparallel to, the baseline. These are mainly quartz bearing, but quartz veinlets are less numerous than in the larger body of quartz porphyry in the Frank West property to the north. It is possible that there is continuity between some of the lenses as overburden is abundant. Quartz diorite of the Shebandowan stock underlies the southern part of claim and small islands in claim The contact is interpreted to be regular and to extend under the lake from the southwest corner of claim to the southeast corner of claim , but is poorly defined raagnetlically.

-3- Structural Geology The general distribution of mafic and felsic volcanics is indicative of east-trending volcanic stratigraphy. East of the Group there is evidence that the volcanics face to the north and it is interpreted that the entire volcanic section exposed in the Cal-Chris Group is north facing. Foliation varies from weak to well developed and consistently strikes between 100O and 115O with steep north dips. Lineaments trending east-northeast occur in the area and are believed to mark the position of a sinistral fault system. One of these, in the north part of claims and , coincides with magnetically interpreted faults. A strong east-striking, north-dipping shear zone, with a possible width of up to 100m, occurs in the west-central part of claim This may be a sehhhhjdary feature related to the interpreted east-northeast faults. Economic Geology During the present survey, the only workings located are a series of shallow trenches between the baseline and the alder swamp in claims and 53. At 1400E and 025N, rock was blasted from outcrop which forms a low cliff at the north side of a hill. The rock consists of highly carbonatized mafic volcanics in which there is quartz veining and both pyrite and chalcopyrite. There was no obvious structural control but it nay indicate the presence of mineralization in lower ground to the north. At 1740E and 040N a shallow trench exposes altered mafic volcanics in which there is minor shearing and some disseminated pyrite. The trench is at the northedge of a hill and, similarly, may indicate a stronger zone of liberalization to the north. Nearby, at 1775E and 090N, a very large lens of white quartz has been exposed by trenching; the quartz is associated with carbonate in places, but is essentially devoid of sulphides. At 1815E and 080N, sheared carbonatized volcanics are cut by a small quartz-carbonate vein which contains minor pyrite. A wider section of similiar rock was exposed in a deeper trench at 1900E and 100N; at the writer's suggestion this trench was extended to the north and south and a second parallel trench was sunk 25m to the west. In both these trenches the sheared volcanics strike about 095O and dip 50O to 70O north. The sheared volcanics are reported to contain Au per ton (Schnieders

-4- and Dutka, 1985) but visible gold is present in quartz-carbonate veins which constitute a small percentage of the total exposure. A copper occurrence was noted by Morin (1974) in the area of claim The pit in felsic volcanics was not located during present work. Pyrite is present in many of the rocks of the area and there is some concentration along narrow shear zones. Morin (1974) noted the presence of carbonatized volcanics in the area of claim and considered these rocks to have potential for gold mineralization. Recommedations The zone of strongly sheared volcanics with auiferous quartz-carbonate veins is the principal exploration target in the claim group. In preparation for further work on this the baseline should be re-surveyed and picketed between 1320E and 2040E (beyond which the original baseline can be recognized). North of the baselline the cross-lines should be picketed through the burn. It is recommended that soil and humus samples be collected between the baseline and the alder swamp at 15m intervals along each cross-line east of 1380E. It is further recommended that this be followed by removal of shallow overburden from the low ridge between 1840E and 1920E and between 085N and 110N and that the stripped area be washed with high-pressure hoses to permit detailed geological mapping of the shear zone. Sheared quartz porphyry and volcanics are present between 1680E and 1860E and from 100S to 150S. Pyrite is common in the shears and carbonate is locally abundant. It is recommended that the area between the quartz porphyry and the cottage-access road be prospected and that 'all Mineralization be sampled. Prospecting and sampling of other shear zones adjacent to porphyry lenses should be carried out. This would include the vicinity of 400E and 25S, 540E and 140S, E and S, E and 100S, and 2040E and 130S. Claims and are mainly underlain by mafic volcanics. The area contains few outcrops and much windfall, and assessment of the mineral potential is difficult. Morin (1974) recommended the area for exploration, and it is here recommended that every second line be flagged and that geochemical sampling be carried out in order to locate possible anomalous zones

Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Notice of Intent for Technical Reports /382 An examination of your survey report indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on his record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged. If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application. If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded. If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked. The new work breakdowns should be submitted direct to the Land Management Branch, Toronto. The report will be re-assessed and a new statement of credits based on actual days worked will be issued. 846 (82/51
