-1- ABSTRACT The Cheryl mineral claim with record number 4510(10), composed of 16 units, is located on Sawmill Flat near the headwaters of the Swift River some 84 krn southeast of the village of ells in the Cariboo Mining Division of central British Columbia. Diamond Drill Hole #3 was drille during the period August 15th to October 5th, The hole is a vertical hole and the AQ size. The hole was drilled by ayne Steffan, owner of the drill. The hole is located at the bottom of a large test pit put down some 30 to 40 feet deep in the valley and bottomed in bedrock of quartzite with quartz veins highly fractured. The hole is 325 feet deep with local areas of poor to no core recovery in fracture zones. The core consists primarily of gray micaceous quartzite badly fractured with fault gouge in local areas. Some quartz veins varying in width from less than an inch to over one foot were cut by the hole. A shallow quartz vein contained some pyrite crystals but little or no alteration, silicification or mineralization. No areas of significant mineralization were encountered in the hole. The diamond drill hole was logged by the writer on December 16, The core is stored in suitable boxes at the residence of ayne Steffan at Avenue, Langley B.C..M. HOARD MYERS, P.GEOL., P.BN(I.
-1- GEOLOGICAL REPORT AND LOG OF DIAMOND DRILL HOLE #3 CHERYL MINERAL CLAIM RECORD f4510(10) INTRODUCTION This report and the log of Diamond Drill Hole #3 drilled during the 1986 field season were commissioned by Mr. ayne Steffan, who drilled the hole. The core is stored in boxes at Mr. Steffan's residence at Avenue, Langley, B.C. The.. core was logged in detail on December 16, 1986 at Langley, B.C. by the writer. The property was visited by the writer on September 16th, 1986 at which time the core was examined briefly for possible gold mineralization. No effort was made at that time to do any geological field work due to the scarcity of outcrops. The writer did extensive field work in this general area in 1972 and 1973 while testing for placer gold. The claim is composed of 16 units with an anniversary date of October Illth, The monies spent for the diamond drilling $8, were filed as assessment work by ayne Steffan on October loth, 1986 at Vancouver, B.C. The details of the costs of the drilling are given in the appendix of this report, together with the detail log of the hole. The claim is located near the headwaters of the Swift River and the northerly flowing Sawflat Creek, a tributary of Antler Creek. The terrain in the area of the claim is moderate with the flat valley of the Swift River and the Sawmill Creek valleys through the center of the claim block. The terrain is quite steep to east and west of the central valley to the edge of the claim block. Relief in the area of the claim is some 600 rn (2,000 ft. from the hills to east and west of the central meadow formed by the two creeks. The hummocky gravel deposits on both sides of the flat near the center of the claims are moraine deposits left by the retreating glacier. The property is well forested. The area contains abundant water with drainage to the north and south of the claim block..m. HOARD MYERS, PGEOL., P.ENG.
Access to the claim block is by improved graveled logging road #3100 to hiskey Flats then by mining road up the west side of Antler Creek to the mouth of Sawflat Creek at the north end of Sawmill Flats. The total distance from ells to the property is approximately 23 km. The climate in this portion of British Columbia is moderate to cold. Snowfall in the area of the claim is moderate to heavy. The area experiences fairly constant rains in early and late summers with extended dry spells in between. The drilling was carried out during the period August 15th to October 5th, 1986 using a Boyles BBS-1 diamond drill with AQ size core. The writer visited the drilling operator and examined the core (approximately 250 feet) on September 16th, The drilling was supported by a temporary camp at the site and 4x4 truck for supplies and fuel. HISTORY The Cariboo has produced many millions of dollars in gold from both placer and lode type deposits. The majority of the placer gold was produced during the gold rush which started in 1861 and tapered off substantially near 1898 when the gold rush started to the north in the Yukon. There was a slight resurgence of placer gold production in the Cariboo during the depression of the thirties. The nearest placer gold production to the claim block was on Antler Creek, some 2f miles to the northeast. In the 1880'5, there was considerable exploration for quartz veins with pyrite and gold north of the claim block above Antler Creek along the Antler Creek fault. The more recent exploration for quartz veins or lode deposits was in 1946 in the area north of the claim block along the northerly trending Antler Creek Fault..M. HOARD MYERS, P.GEOL., P.ENC.
GEOLOGY A wide spread mantle of glacial drift overgrown with trees and vegetation limits the outcrop of bedrock largely to the tops of ridges, divides and individual moutains and along steep slopes exposed in the bottom of the pit put of the more prominent rivers and streams. Bedrock was valley as shown on the claim location map. Bedrock composed down for placer gold in the upper Swift River of gray micaceous quartzite with quartz veins with numerous fractures. This corresponds to the Yanks Peak Quartzite formation described by A. Sutherland Brown in Bulletin No. 38 (1957). More recent mapping in this general area by Struik (1981) O.F. 858 DMS map 4 of 5, maps the Devonian-Mississippian claim block. DMs formation in the area of the The DMs formation is composed of dark siltite phyllite gray micaceous quartzite and limestone. The principal structure in the area of the claim block is the north-northeast trending Antler Fault mapped by Sutherland Brown and others. identified on China Pass Creek, immediately north-northeast The fault has been of the claims. The fault has been projected to the south along Sawflat Creek and the Swift River which cuts through the center of the claims from north to south. The fault has been traced for nearly 40 km from the Swift River on to the south Bowron Lake on the north. In the area of China Pass Creek the fault is approximately I5 meters wide and exposed in a hydraulic pit.' Gold mineralization in transverse and diagonal veins has produced the majority of gold in the Cariboo Gold Quartz Mine near ells, B.C. The gold is primarily in the pyrite in the quartz veins and is free milling ore when ground to 200 mesh. The other main type of lode gold deposit in the Cariboo group is one formed by the replacement of limestone. The area is typically a solid mass of fine grained pyrite. This type of deposit was first recognized in the Island Mountain Mine, in the ells area, in This type of ore is generally higher in gold content thanthe transversal and diagonal veins. Gold values up to 5 ounces per ton have been obtained from these replacementype ore bodies. The gold mineralization is believed to be older than the gold bearing Tertiary gravels. This would date the gold mineralization in the area between the Carboniferous and Early Tertiary..M. HOARD MYERS, P-GEOL., P.ENC.
-4- V DRILLING A vertical diamond drill hole was located at the bottom of test pit put down for placer gold when favourable bedrock was encountered at the bottom of the pit. Bedrock composed primarily of gray micaceous quartzite with local quartz veins, fracturing and some pyrite cubes. The hole was started on August 15th, 1986 after all equipment was moved onto the site from Vancouver. The hole was suspended at feet on October 5th, 1986 when weather conditions became adverse. The total projected depth of the hole is near 500 feet below the bottom of the pit. The log of the core from 0 to feet prepared by the writer is enclosed in the appendix of the report. SUMMARY The core from the vertical drill hole at the bottom of the placer gold pit contains numerous fractures, gouge zones, quartz veins and some broken ground-up core. The core is composed primarily of gray micaceous quartzite with local areas of dark gray to black siltite or phyllite. The core contained numerous quartz veins at various oblique angles to the core varying in width from a fraction of an inch to over one foot. In many instances, the larger quartz veins were fractured with poor recovery and occasional cubes of pyrite. In many places core recovery was very poor to nil over a few feet. The core contained very little alteration silicification or mineralization. Two separate areas of the core contained some possible pyrite - mineralization but the core recovery was too poor to properly evaluate the zone with assaying. No assays were taken of the core. The hole is scheduled to continue to 500 feet next season. A detail log of the core is enclosed in the appendix of the report. Respectfully submitted, A I Vancouver, B.C. December, 1986 wm.
