6 3 Access is by flat equipped fixed wing aircraft frm Watsn Lake Yukn Territry abut 320 km t the nrthwest t Mayfield Lake lcated abut 15 km nrtheast f the prperty Fuel and camp supplies used fr the 1981 prgram were trucked 300 km frm Watsn Lake t Munch Lake km 747 n the Alaska Highway and ferried 100 km during mid April 1981 by ski equipped single Otter aircraft t a winter airstrip lcated at the headwaters f Driftpile Creek Field wrk was cnducted with a helicpter supprted prgram based at a permanent camp lcated n Driftpile Creek abut 10 km t the nrthwest Reginal Gelgy The Gataga Lakes area lies within Kechika Trugh a sutheasterly extensin f the much larger Selwyn Basin Sedimentary rcks range in age frm Cambrian t lwer Mississippian Prir t upper Devnian easterly derived clastic sedimentary assemblages reflect nrmal sedimentatin while the westerly derivatin f upper Devnian t Mississippian sedimentary rcks resulted frm blck faulting and uplift alng the cntinental margin Reginal stratigraphic relatinships are summarized n Figure 2 Structured gelgy f the area is dminated by nrthwesterly trending easterly directed thrust faults Pelitic sedimentary rcks within thrust sheets are cmplexly defrmed int upright t slightly verturned isclinal flds cut by numerus near vertical shear znes A penetrative axial plane fliatin is cmmnly well develped Structural gelgy is cmplicated by defrmatin initiated prir t depsitin f middle Devnian clastic rcks abve a prnunced uncnfrmity

8 4 Upper Devnian siliceus and pyritic black shales are hst t numerus stratifrm barite and barite lead zinc depsits in the area ntably thse at Driftpile Creek sme 10 km alng strike t the nrthwest and at the Cyprus Anvil Hudsn Bay Oil and Gas Cirque claims lcated abut 130 km sutheast f the area A relatively small and lw grade massive sulphide depsit is hsted by upper Devnian black shales n the GJV Bear claims lcated abut 5 km sutheast alng strike frm the Bb and Taga claims Gelgy f the Bear and Driftpile shwings is summarized in previus reprts submitted fr assessment credit by GJV Gechemical Survey J During the perid August 13 t August apprximately 325 sil and silt samples were cllected frm the Bb 5 Taga 3 and Taga 4 claims Adaitinal samples cllected frm adjacent areas during the survey are als reprted n here Sil samples were taken every 50 m alng traverse lines spaced m intervals and running perpendicular t the reginal structural grain at 100 Samples taken frm the B sil hrizn where pssible were lcated with the aid f a Hip Chain measuring device frm base lines established with a nyln chain n a cntured scale rthpht map Sample lcatins were marked with their prenumbered kraft bag designatin n range survey flagging All samples were shipped airfreight t Chemex Labs Ltd Nrth Vancuver B C where they were dried screened t a minus 80 mesh fractin and analyzed rutinely fr cpper lead zinc and silver cntent using a nitric perchlric acid extractin and atmic absrptin spectrmetry Samples which cntained a high barium cntent required redigestin due t barium interference with lead analysis A prtin f the minus 80 mesh fractin frm each sample is stred at the lab

10 6 lead sil gechemical anmaly ccurs acrss the length f the prperty The area immediately sutheast f the nrtheast crner f the Taga 4 claim exhibits strngly anmalus lead respnse ver a strike length f several hundred metres Zinc values are generally lw with scattered irregular areas f mderately anmalus respnse Silver sil assay values are erratic with irregularly distributed areas f weak t mderately anmalus respnse The area f best lead respnse utside the claim blck cntains generally cincident high silver respnse while zinc and cpper values are unifrmly lw Cnclusins and Recmmendatins Sil sampling at 50 m by 100 m grid spacing was carried ut ver parts f the Bb 5 Taga 3 and Taga 4 mineral claims during the perid August 13 t August The samples were analyzed fr cpper lead zinc and silver t determine if stratifrm zinc lead silver mineralizatin was present in underlying upper Devnian black shales Results f the gechemical survey are generally negative A subdued discntinuus lead sil anmaly parallels structural strike f the underlying shales acrss the nrtheastern end f the claim blck increasing in tenr utside the claims t the sutheast Best silver values accmpany lead in the latter area Zinc values are generally lw thrughut the area surveyed Discntinuus and weakly develped nature f the gechemical respnse suggests that a metalliferus shale unit may underlie the central part f the area sampled Althugh the ptential fr significant massive sulphide mineralizatin within this unit appears t be lw n surface the area shuld receive careful gelgic
