The indexes are a m ea su re o f w ages at a given tim e, e x p re s sed as a p ercen t of w ages during the base p e rio d. Subtracting 100 fro m the index yield s the p ercen ta ge change in w ages fr o m the ba se p e rio d to the date of the index. The p e rce n ta g e s o f change o r in crease relate to wage changes betw een the in d icated dates. Annual rates of in c r e a s e, w here shown, r e fle c t the am ount o f in cre a s e fo r 12 m onths when the tim e p e rio d betw een su rveys w as oth er than 12 m onths. T h ese com putations w ere based on the assu m ption that w ages in cr e a s e d at a constant rate betw een su rv e y s. The index is the p rod u ct o f m ultiplying the base year rela tive (100) by the rela tive fo r the next su cceed in g year and continuing to m u ltiply (com pound) each y e a r 's rela tive by the p revio u s y e a r 's index. F o r o ffic e c le r ic a l w o rk e rs and in d u stria l n u rse s, the w age trends relate to regu la r w eek ly sa la rie s fo r the n orm al w ork w eek, e x clu siv e o f earn ings fo r o v e rtim e.
