1 Twice-Annual Station Maintenance and Calibration Report BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK February 1, 212 National Park Service Gaseous Pollutant Monitoring Program Prepared by Air Resource Specialists, Inc. under Contract P11PC19 CALIBRATION SUMMARY Air Quality Site: K-Barr Primary Site Operator: Jenny Goucher & Raquel Acosta Field Specialist: Martin Valvur Backup Site Operator: Jeff Bennett All site visit and calibration forms are attached, detailing the pre- and post-maintenance calibrations. Pre-Maintenance Calibration Summary: All sensors were within specifications, with the exceptions of wind direction and rainfall. Maintenance Activity Summary: O 3 A pre-maintenance multipoint calibration was performed on the analyzer and the calibrator with good results. Routine maintenance was performed, followed by a post-maintenance multipoint, and both units passed. Following the pre-maintenance multipoint check, the calibrator s coefficient was adjusted. WS/WD The wind speed sensor passed both the pre- and post- maintenance testing. The wind direction sensor failed at one cardinal point, but the linearity results were good. The sensor was replaced and rechecked; again, it passed. AT A three-point check was performed on the temperature sensor and it passed. The aspirator fan was running. SR A calibration check confirmed this sensor to be within the 5 tolerance level. No adjustment was necessary. The sensor was found to be clean and level. PRECIP A precipitation test was performed on this instrument using 45 ml of water; it did not pass. The tipping mechanism was adjusted and retested, but still failed. Another adjustment was made and it failed again. The tipping mechanism was checked and it was not being obstructed by any wires. A 1 ml syringe was utilized to calibrate the tipping mechanism and it appeared correct, but when 45 ml were passed through, the final result was low. The signal wires have lost their coating, so this may be a reason for the incorrect tip count. New wiring will be installed during the next visit. 191 Sharp Point Drive, Suite E Fort Collins, CO 8525 Telephone:

2 RH The existing unit was compared to a reference standard and confirmed to be within specifications. It was not replaced, as no spares were available. The aspirator fan was working and the netting was in place to prevent the birds from nesting in the aspirator. CASTNET A flow check was performed and the system was found to be in good calibration. The pump was rebuilt between the pre-maintenance testing and the flow calibration. The post-maintenance check passed. Post-Maintenance Calibration Summary: All systems were within specifications. ADDITIONAL NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS Station Operator Jenny Goucher and Raquel Acosta assisted with the wind checks. Monitoring Shelter The shelter, an 8 ft. X 1 ft. EKTO, is in good condition. 191 Sharp Point Drive, Suite E Fort Collins, CO 8525 Telephone:
