INTRODUCTION The tia NC-9900 n cntact thermmeter has been develped with the latest infrared technlgy which allws tempral artery (TA) temperature t be taken at a distance f apprximately 2 6in (5-15cm) frm the frehead. Precise, instantaneus and withut cntact, the tia NC-9900 is the mst suitable thermmeter fr n risk temperature measurement. Studies shw that TA temperature measurement is mre precise than tympanic (ear) thermmetry and far mre cmfrtable and better tlerated than rectal thermmetry. (Ref: Greenes D, Fleisher G. Accuracy f a Nninvasive Tempral Artery Thermmeter fr Use in Infants. Arch Pediatr Adlesc Med 2001;155:376.)

5 As with all thermmeters, the tia NC-9900 must be used prperly in rder t btain reliable and cnsistent results. Read ALL instructins and safety precautins prir t use. III. PRIOR TO USE tia NC-9900 is pre-set at the factry N need t calibrate When changing envirnments f varying temperatures, allw yur tia t reach rm temperature (abut minutes) befre using Always wait at least 15 secnds (ne minute is recmmended) between measurements PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS WHEN TAKING A TEMPERATURE In rder t ensure that accurate & cnsistent temperature measurements are btained, it is essential that each user becme familiar with crrect peratin f the tia NC-9900 Keep in mind that taking smene s temperature is simple, yet imprtant Temperature shuld be taken under nrmal cnditins. Fr instance, taking a temperature after vigrus exercise is nt recmmended Rm temperature shuld be mderate Be mindful f nrmal temperature variatins

6 Temperature increases by 0.9 F (0.5 C) between 6AM and 3PM On average a wman s temperature is higher by abut 0.4 F (0.2 C) and by 0.9 F (0.5 C) during the secnd half f her varian cycle and during early pregnancy. When sitting, temperature is lwer by 0.5 F 0.8 F (0.3 C C) than when standing NORMAL TEMPERATURES ACCORDING TO AGE 0-2 years: 97.5 F F (36.4 C C) 3-10 years: 97.0 F F (36.1 C C) years: 96.6 F F (35.9 C C) > 65 years: 96.4 F F (35.8 C C) IV. 12 ADDITIONAL USES: tia NC-9900 can als be used t measure the temperature f a baby-bttle, bath, r rm temperature (by using the surface temperature functin). This functin is in accrdance with the directive 89/336/EEC Electrmagnetic Cmpatibility. ADVANTAGES OF TEMPORAL ARTERY (TA) TEMPERATURE Infrared arterial temperature can be measured using a device placed near the frehead, in the tempral artery regin. It has been demnstrated that this relatively new methd f measuring temperature is mre precise than tympanic thermmetry and better tlerated than rectal thermmetry. The tempral artery is clse t the skin s surface and maintains a cnstant, regular bld flw. It is ne f the main arteries in the bdy linked t the arta via the cartid artery. tia NC-9900 thermmeter has been designed t prduce an instant frehead temperature reading withut any cntact t the bdy. The efficiency, speed and cmfrt f taking a temperature in this way make it ideal. VIII.
