4 Page 4 f 50 WebStats User s Guide (Windws Versin) Installing lgs thrugh the SMT fr a Tp Level Dmain T have web statistics, yu must first have web server lgs. T ensure lgs are enabled fr a tp level dmains, fllw the instructins belw: 1. Lg in t the SMT / cpanel as reseller (reseller@dmain.cm) 2. Click the Enable Web Lgs link under Web Services. Figure 1-1 belw shws an example f what the user will see. T create web lgs fr a dmain name, select the dmain s radi buttn and then click the Enable Lgs link. Figure After the link is clicked, a screen like Figure 1-2 will appear. This frm just cnfirms that the user wuld like t generate lgs r t stp lgs.

This ensures that lgs are enabled fr the dmain in questin. 5. T verify that lgs have started, yu will need t stp and start the WWW service fr the dmain that has had lgs enabled. Fllw the instructins fr stpping and starting the WWW service in the SMT 4.1 fr Windws User s Guide. Installing lgs thrugh the SMT fr a Virtual Hst T have lgs fr a virtual hst, fllw the same instructins as installing lgs fr a tp level dmain. Installing WebStats fr a Tp Level Dmain r a Virtual Hst 1. Lg in t the SMT / cpanel as reseller (reseller@dmain.cm) 2. Make sure the dmain yu are adding a stats server t, des nt have a stats server. Meaning delete it, if it is there. 3. Add Stats server with the fllwing specifics. 1. Selected Website - Chse the dmain in the drp dwn menu that yu wish t add a stats server t. 2. Date Frmat - Make sure that the directry shwn is pinting t the crrect flder cntaining the lg files. The crrect flder beginning with W3... This is usually in the lg directry. If nt check the www r elsewhere. 3. Lg Path The default lg file path is already selected fr mst installatins, hwever it can be changed by using the Brwse buttn t find the lg file n the server that yu wuld like t use.

6 Page 6 f 50 WebStats User s Guide (Windws Versin) 4. Lg Scan - In the Lg scan ptin, change it t 0 s the stats will update quicker. The values range frm 2 minutes t 24 hurs. This is hw ften the stats will be updated with lgs frm the web server. 5. Lg Filter - The lg filter shuld be left alne except the capital "L" shuld be lwercase. 6. Default User Accunt - Make sure the right default accunt and passwrd is selected fr that specific dmain. 7. Aliases This shuld include all dmain names that are pinted t that website. Fr example, yu may include in this aliases bx. 8. Exclude This ptin can be used t input different IP addresses that yu want t exclude frm being analyzed. Fr example, if yur ffice has several peple in it and each f them surf the internet thrugh 1 external IP address, and yu dn t want t cunt their traffic twards yur stats, yu can include the IP address there s it is nt analyzed. 9. Suspend This ptin will stp the web stats frm running. If n is selected, web stats are enabled. If yes, the stats server is stpped fr that dmain. 4. Simply click submit, and yu have added this stats server. The existing stats will be update with the next 2-5 minutes. Using WebStats (LiveStats) With Web Stats tracking yur visitrs, yu ll knw: Hw many users visit yur web site every day, week, r mnth? Wh are they? Where they cme frm? What pages they enter n, exit frm and visit lngest? Hw tday is shaping up? Wh s n right nw? What part f yur site is mst ppular? What search engines peple are using t find yur site? What keywrds peple use t find yur site? T find this infrmatin inside f the WebStats reprting interface, fllw the instructins belw: 1. Lgin t the SMT / cpanel as a reseller r a webadmin. 2. Click Web services > Manage > Web Stats Analyzer. 3. Select the dmain that yu wuld like t review stats fr. 4. Click Lgin t stats server 5. When the new windw pens, yu can cpy the URL and prvide that t yur custmers fr future use. This way, yur custmers d nt need t lgin t the SMT t see the stats server URL. Figure 4-1 belw shws the beginning f the lgin area where the dmain name is input.

8 Page 8 f 50 WebStats User s Guide (Windws Versin) The WebStats interface ffers a near infinite number f Web statistics reprts. There are 40 majr reprts and mst have zm views that shw mre details. Mst reprts can be viewed fr any day, week, mnth r range up t 93 days in the previus year. The Wh s On, Summaries and Watches have fixed ranges. Each interface will have it s wn specific ptins, hwever the ptins belw are pretty cmmn amng each reprt. Refresh Buttn - The buttn frces the WebStats t calculate a new reprt. Nte the time stamp lcated in the upper left crner f the reprt shwing reprt generatin time. Printing Reprts - WebStats can generate a printable versin f a reprt anywhere the icn is displayed. Printable reprts cntain n navigatin cntrls such as buttns. The print icn is used t send the reprt t the printer. Select the reprt yu want t print then click the Print buttn. Use yur Web Brwser File/Print ptin t send the print jb t yur printer. Use yur Web Brwser Back buttn t return t the WebStats interface. Exprt - The buttn is used t dwnlad files cntaining statistics data in CSV (Cmma Separated Variables) frmat. Many database packages supprt CSV imprts. T save the CSV t hard disk: Select the reprt yu want t exprt then click the Exprt buttn. Back Buttn The Back buttn is used t take yu back frm zmed reprts t the main reprt. Help The icns will be shwn n the upper right hand crner f all mst any page. Use this help t guide yu thrugh reprts, r ptins n each page. Zmed Views On many reprts yu will see magnifying glasses indicating a detailed reprt is available fr the adjacent item. The glbally selected reprt perid is autmatically applied t detailed reprts. Reprts are selected frm the expanding menu lcated n the left side f the WebStats interface. Als, where applicable, yu will get detailed graphs. Graphs, in sme instances, can be changed frm pie charts, t line charts, t bar graphs. Belw is an example f each: Bar graph ptin Figure 6-1

Figure 7-1 Tracking Wh s On - Wh s On displays individual sessins by their unique IP Address. The crprate identity, gegraphic rigin and machine name f the IP Address are identified if available. Wh s On is accurate t within 2, 5 r 10 minutes depending n what granularity ptin was selected by the glbal administratr (see Scan Lgs Every). Wh s On will nt be displayed if the scan time is greater than 10 minutes. Additinal infrmatin is available in the zmed view fr individual sessins. The Wh s On zmed view The Wh s On zmed view displays extended sessin infrmatin. Each sessin is identified by its unique IP Address. RDNS, crprate identity, gegraphic lcatin, time spent, hits vs. kilbytes, Brwser tag and referring URL where pssible. A recrd f the date, time and URL requested is displayed. This recrd is purged when the sessin expires after 15 minutes f inactivity. Sessin details can be turned ff frm the Disable Wh s On sessin histry ptin lcated at.glbal Settings/Behavir Settings. Watches - Watches are used t prvide enhanced details where required. Watches are created and managed by the Virtual Server administratr. They allw individual Web site resurces, IP Addresses, inbund click-thrus and utbund click-thrus t be

11 Page 11 f 50 WebStats User s Guide (Windws Versin) tracked in detail. Watch reprts can be viewed fr any day, week r mnth r date range within recrded Web site histry. IP Watch - Created t watch an IP Address r range f IP Addresses, this watch will cunt the number f times the IP Address r range f IP Addresses will access the Web site. With detailed lgging enabled a recrd f the date, time and the requested URL is created. URL Watch - Created t watch a URL, this watch will cunt the number f times the URL is requested. With detailed lgging enabled a recrd f the date, time and IP that requested the entity is created. Click Thru Watch - Created t accurately cunt the number f times a link between tw pages is used. The URL f the referring page is changed t direct the brwser t WebStats, and WebStats transparently redirects them t the target site. With detailed lgging enabled a recrd f the date, time and IP f the referred brwser is created. Summaries Summaries are predefined reprts that cntain all the analysis infrmatin fr the date ranges f Yesterday, Last Week and Last Mnth. Yesterday - Yesterday cvers the last full day f histry. The perid is ne day. Last Week- Last Week cvers the last full week f histry. The perid is 7 days. Last Mnth - Last Mnth cvers the last full mnth f histry. The perid is the number f days in the mnth. Usage by Analysis - The Site Activity Analysis, Page Usage Analysis, User Agent Analysis, Referrer Activity Analysis, and Sessins by Netwrk Lcatin sectins are included in all f the reprts. Site Activity Analysis - The Site Activity Analysis sectin prvides a breakdwn f the amunt and nature f traffic that has ccurred n the Web site. Server Activity Ttals fr Perid - The Server Activity Ttals fr Perid displays ttals fr sessins, kilbytes and hits, including a breakdwn f hits int page views and nn-page views. Sessin Averages fr Perid - The Sessin Averages fr Perid displays average activity fr a sessin in the time perid, including average hits, average time spent and average kilbytes transferred. Ttal sessins served shws the number f sessins that have ccurred in the perid. Ttal sessins served with time histry shws the ttal number f sessins that ccurred in the perid that had mre than ne hit. Sessins with nly ne hit are assigned a length f ne secnd, but dn t get cunted in this ttal. Average hits per sessin shws the average number f hits that ccur per sessin, calculated by dividing the ttal hits fr the perid by the ttal sessins fr the perid. Average Page Views per sessin shws the average number f page views that ccur per sessin, calculated by dividing the ttal page views fr the perid by the ttal sessins fr the perid. Average Time Spent per sessin shws the average length f a sessin fr the perid, calculated by dividing the ttal time spent fr the perid by the ttal sessins fr the perid.

Sessin Origins fr Perid - The Sessin Origins fr Perid prvides general infrmatin n the type f referrer fr each sessin. Ttal sessins served shws the number f sessins that have ccurred in the perid. Ttal Search Engine Referred Sessins shws the ttal number f sessins in the perid that have a knwn search engine as the referrer and the percentage f ttal sessins fr the perid this represents. Ttal Referred Sessin shws the ttal number f sessins in the perid that have a referrer and the percentage f ttal sessins in the perid this represents. Ttal Blind (n referrer) Sessins shws the number f sessins in the perid that had n referrer and the percentage f ttal sessins in the perid this represents. Page Views per Sessin Breakdwn - The Page Views per Sessin Breakdwn sectin breaks dwn sessins by the number f page requests made. The number f sessins and the percentage f ttal sessins these represent are shwn. Time Spent per Sessin Breakdwn - The Time Spent per Sessin Breakdwn sectin breaks dwn sessins by the number f minutes each sessin lasted. The number f sessins and the percentage f ttal sessins these represent are shwn. Sessins - Ttal sessins served shws the number f sessins that have ccurred in the perid. The Usage By - Sessins reprt shws the number f sessins served fr the Web site. A sessin is defined as ne r mre transactins between the Web server and a specific IP Address. Sessins expire after 15 minutes f inactivity. This reprt can be viewed by day, week, mnth r range. Daily reprt - The Daily reprt cntains the 365 Day Histry graph, 24 Hur Breakdwn f the Day, Summary fr the Day and the Hurly Breakdwn f Day. The 365 Day Histry is divided int daily units, shwing the ttal number f user sessins started in each day. The 24 Hur Breakdwn f Day is divided int hurly units. It shws the active and average hurly usage by sessins. The active hurly usage by sessins is the ttal number f sessins started in each hur. The average hurly usage by sessins is the average number f sessins started in each hur ver the entire year. It is equal t the ttal number f sessins started in that hur in the entire year divided by the ttal number f days since the first statistics including the current day. The Summary shws the Ttal Fr Day, the Average Daily, the Tp Hur, the Average Tp Hur, the Lw Hur and the Average Lw Hur. In a case where tw r mre hurs have the same number f sessins, and this number f sessins wuld make thse hurs the Tp Hur, the Average Tp Hur, the Lw Hur r the Average Lw Hur, the first hur chrnlgically frm the start f the day will be reprted. The Lw Hur is the hur f the current day with the least sessins. The Average Lw Hur is the hur with the lwest average. The average fr each hur is calculated as in Histric Averages belw. The Hurly Breakdwn f Day shws Time, Hurly Ttal, Histric Averages and % f Ttal. It als includes the Daily Ttal and the Hurly Average. Time shws the hur f the infrmatin. This is calculated by dividing the number f sessins in the day by the ttal number f sessins in the mnth and multiplying by 100 t get the percentage. Year Ttal is the ttal number f sessins in the year. Mnthly Average is the ttal number f sessins in the year divided by the number f mnths in the year. This will be less than 12 if statistics start later in the year. The Range view - The Range view cntains the 365 Day Histry and the textual Breakdwn f Range. The 365 Day Histry is divided int daily units, shwing the ttal number f sessins that ccurred n the Web site each day. The textual Breakdwn f Range shws Day f Mnth, Ttal and % f Ttal. It als includes the Range Ttal and the Daily Average. Day f Mnth is the weekday and full date (Mnth/Day/Year). Ttal is the ttal number f sessins n each day. % f Ttal shws what part f the ranges sessins ccurred in the day. This is calculated by dividing the number f sessins in the day by the ttal number f sessins in the range and multiplying by 100 t get the percentage. Range Ttal is the ttal number f sessins in the range. Daily Average is the ttal number f sessins in the range divided by the ttal number f days in the range.

The Usage By - Hits shws the number f requests made t the Web server. This reprt can be viewed by day, week, mnth and range. A hit is any request made n the Web server. Daily view - The Daily view cntains the 365 Day Histry, the 24 Hur Breakdwn f Day, the Summary and the Hurly Breakdwn f Day. The 365 Day Histry is divided int daily units, shwing the ttal number f requests made n the Web server fr each day. The 24 Hur Breakdwn f Day is divided int hurly units.
