The Panthers broke six single-season team records and finished second in three other categories. GSU also made history with a program record 15-game winning streak to help the Panthers get off to their best ever start through 20 games, Georgia State also had five NFCA South All-Region selections and five All-Sun Belt honorees, the third highest total in the Panthers 29-year competitive history. Georgia State finished its record breaking season with a overall record to give the Panthers its ninth consecutive campaign with 30 or more wins and 15th winning season in the last 18 years. GSU also posted a mark in the Sun Belt and were ranked 42nd the final RPI of the regular season. Sadly after an impressive run in the conference tournament, the Panthers season ended on a disappointing note when GSU did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship. Georgia State launched a program record 102 home runs in 2015, easily shattering the previous record of 59 set a season ago. The powerful Panthers became just one of three teams in Sun Belt history to hit 100 or more round trippers in a season and their total of 102 is tied for the second most all-time. In addition to home runs, Georgia State established single-season team records in batting average, hits, runs scored, slugging percentage and fielding percentage while finishing second in doubles, walks and double plays turned Georgia State hit a single-season GSU led the SBC and finished sixth record 102 homers in 2015 which is in the nation with a single-season the 2nd highest total in SBC history. record fielding percentage of.977. Georgia State is led by Ivie Drake (22) and Megan Litumbe (21), who are second and third in the conference standings in homers. She led the Sun Belt conference in five categories and finished ranked in the top three in seven others. Nationally among freshman, Drake is first in batting average, RBI, home runs and slugging percentage. She is second in RBI per game, on-base percentage and home runs per game. Drake Voted Sun Belt Freshman of the Year... After a record-breaking campaign, standout freshman Ivie Drake was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year. She put together one of the most impressive seasons at the plate in program history for any player, not just freshmen. 3 Taylor Thorpe : 17-Win Ace... In 2015, sophomore pitcher Taylor Thorpe led the Panthers in wins (17), appearances (44) and saves (2). She was second in complete games (8), innings pitched (149.0), shutouts (1) and starts (25). Thorpe s 17 wins were tied for the second highest total in the Sun Belt Conference. Coleman s Bat Clinches Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week Award... Lauren Coleman was Sun Belt Player of the Week after launching a home run in all four games last week. The senior hit.538 to go with 14 RBI and six runs scored. She finished with a double, a triple and four home runs for a slugging percentage of Coleman also tallied a.587 on-base percentage. Megan Litumbe blasted five home runs in six games last week to earn her first career Sun Belt Player-ofthe-Week award. The sophomore finished the week with a.571 average to go with seven runs scored and nine RBI. Drake Homers Her Way to Third Player-of-the-Week Award... After hitting four home runs in three games, Ivie Drake was named Sun Belt Player of the Week for the third time in five weeks. In addition to four bombs, she drove in eight and scored five times. She hit a GSU single-game record three homers in the first game of a doubleheader and then added a grand slam in Game 2. Worley Throws No-No; Earns Weekly Award... In Game 2 against Troy on March 7, junior pitcher Katie Worley threw the first no-hitter for Georgia State since She struck out a career high 14 batters en route to her third win of the season. Her no-no helped the righty win her first Sun Belt Pitcher-of-the-Week award. Sun Belt Pitcher-of-the-Week Award Winners 3/9 Katie Worley GSU RHP Drake s Curtain Call... Ivie Drake was named Sun Belt Player of the Week after leading GSU to a perfect 4-0 weekend at the USF Under Armour Invitational. She finished the weekend 8-for-12 with five runs scored and six RBI. Callie Alford broke the career RBI mark and already holds the career home run record. Lauren Coleman is the new career walks leader. In other career categories, Alford is third in walks (103), fifth in doubles (42), fourth in runs scored (147), sixth in hits (219) and ninth in batting average (.326). Coleman is second in RBI (157), tied for second in home runs (32), fifth in career batting average (.338), sixth in doubles (40) in addition to eighth in hits (197) and runs scored (117). With 21 stolen bases this season, Ashley Christy has moved into third with 58 career steals. She is seventh with 127 career runs scored and has hit a career high four triples this season to move her into a tie for eighth all time with 10. Taylor Anderson is sixth in career batting average (.330), fifth in career runs scored (142) and tied for seventh in career home runs (25). Georgia State made history as five student-athletes were voted to the NFCA South All-Region teams. Ivie Drake was voted first-team NFCA South All-Region. Lauren Coleman and Megan Litumbe were both named to the South All-Region second team, while Callie Alford and Ashley Christy picked up third team honors. The Panthers also had five players receive all-sun Belt honors. Alford, Taylor Anderson, Christy and Drake all took home first-team honors. Coleman was voted to the second team. Softball s Record Streak... In 2015, Georgia State got off to its best start (18-2) through 20 games in program histor. This was due in large part to the Panthers record 15-game winning streak. The previous record streak was 11 straight games which had been accomplished three times, first in 1987 and twice in Program First... For the first time in Georgia State softball history, the Panthers opened the season against a ranked opponent when GSU played No. 17 Auburn on Feb. 12. The Tigers defeated the Panthers 20-8 but GSU s eight runs are the most that have been scored against undefeated Auburn in 12 games this season. Historically Challenging... Georgia State s 2015 is the toughest in program history and features 13 games against opponents ranked in the top 25. After two games against No. 16/17 Auburn, the Panthers travelled to face No. 4/5 Alabama and No. 22 Kansas twice. GSU then returned to Atlanta for a three-game series versus No. 24 South Alabama. Five of Georgia State s final six games against ranked opposition are all on the road. First a three-game set at No. 10/12 UL Lafayette followed by a game at No. 14 Georgia. The Panthers final game against a ranked opponent in at home versus No. 10/11 Florida State on April 27. Internet Radio Schedule Gives Historic Exposure... Georgia State made its internet radio debut against Savannah State on Feb. 20 in Game 2 of the Panther Invitational. GSU s first Sun Belt series that will be broadcast is against South Alabama on March 28 and March 29. The internet-radio schedule featured a program record 17 games that will be broadcast. 9 Head coach Roger Kincaid Fifth Season (.618) Georgia (1987) oger Kincaid is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Georgia State Rsoftball team. Kincaid has posted 30 or more wins in each of his first four seasons, including three seasons with 35 or more victories. Georgia State finished last season with a record, including a 12-9 mark in the Sun Belt. The Panthers finished third in the conference standings, overachieving after being picked to finish fifth by the Sun Belt coaches in GSU s first season in the new conference. The 2014 team posted a final RPI of 64, third highest in the Sun Belt which was the fourth most difficult conference in the country. Lauren Coleman picked up first-team All-Sun Belt honors while Callie Alford, Ashley Christy and Kaitlyn Medlam were all named to the second team. Georgia State also had three players receive a total of six Sun Belt Player-of-the-Week awards which was tied for the most in the conference. GSU wrapped up a successful first season in the Sun Belt by having Taylor Anderson and Coleman being named to the NFCA South All-Region third team. The Panthers established a new single-season team record with 59 home runs in the best offensive season in Kincaid s tenure. GSU posted the second-highest team slugging percentage, third most runs scored and third highest team batting average in program history in addition to also finishing fourth in hits and walks, tied for sixth in triples and eighth in at-bats. Georgia State also picked up two road wins over top-20 ranked teams for the first time program history. The Panthers defeated No. 19 South Alabama 2-1 in Mobile, Ala. on April 19 before knocking off No. 13 Georgia 4-2 in Athens, Ga. just three days later. GSU finished in 2013 and had three all-region picks for the first time in school history. The high-octane Panthers also had six players earn some form of All-CAA recognition. GSU defeated No. 23 Georgia in 2013 for a third win in the past two years over a ranked team. GSU also had wins over league rival Hofstra, SEC foe Auburn and two against local rival Kennesaw State. GSU also registered a perfect game, the first by one pitcher, with a six-inning rout of Georgia Southern. During the 2012 season, GSU softball posted the second-highest winning percentage in the program s 28 years of competition. The.679 mark (38-18) fell only behind the winning percentage of.709 (39-16) achieved in 1993 when the Panthers won the TAAC championship Georgia State Softball 9 GSU Softball Georgia State earned a spot in the four-team CAA tournament in the first two years under Kincaid s guidance, winning the conference title in 2011 and finishing as the runner-up in In 2013, GSU would have qualified but sat out all CAA tournaments during the transition season to the Sun Belt. Eight student-athletes have been named to the NFCA all-region team since In 2008, Catherine Lee became the first Panther to earn first-team honors, followed by Paige Nowacki in 2012 and Kaitlyn Medlam in McCall Langford, Callie Alford (twice) and Jessica Clifton were named to the second team. Last season Lauren Coleman and Taylor Anderson were both third-team selections. GSU only had two individuals make all-region teams prior to Kincaid has overseen 26 all-conference team selections, including four on the first team, 14 on the second-team and eight on the all-freshmen team. Seven Panthers have earned all-tournament honors and 25 have been awarded weekly conference honors under Kincaid. Kincaid took over the program on an interim basis in February 2011 after long-time head coach Bob Heck stepped down after 24 years of coaching Panther softball. Kincaid was officially promoted to permanent head coach of the program in July A member of the GSU staff since 2008, Kincaid served two-plus seasons as the team s top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator before his promotion. A native of Decatur, Ga., Kincaid played football at Georgia, where he was a member of the Bulldogs 1980 national championship team, learning from coaches such as Vince Dooley, Erk Russell and Bill Lewis. He earned his degree in business management from Georgia in Before coming to Georgia State, Kincaid spent 12 years coaching high school and travel softball teams in the Atlanta area. He was one of the founders of the Georgia Xtreme Softball Organization, which now consists of six teams, including the Xtreme Mavericks, which Kincaid previously managed. His last stop before GSU was at Union Grove High School in McDonough, Ga., where he worked under Brian DeBerry as varsity softball community coach. Kincaid currently resides in McDonough, Ga., with his wife Becky. Daughter Karly Kincaid graduated from Georgia in the spring of 2010 and from P.A. school at Nova Southeastern in Jacksonville, Fla. with honors in She lives in Brookhaven and is working as a dermatologist P.A. Daughter Morgan Chase, a 2010 graduate of Union Grove High School, is a junior at North Georgia campus in Athens.
