In the second game, SEU struck first with an RBI double from Sami Williams in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but from there RSU scored four unanswered. Since the teams last meeting RSU has won six-straight and the Hillcats have won 15 in a row overall. RSU is 4-0 in league play, and St. Mary s is the only other Heartland Conference team undefeated at 6-0. The Hillcats boast 4 of the top 8 Heartland Conference leaders in RBIs with Danelle Day leading the league with 31 RBIs; she s also the league leader in home runs with nine. Despite being used primarily as a reliever, Tailee Reding is 6-0 with a 1.39 ERA in 21 appearances (6 starts) to lead RSU in the circle. The Hillcats are coached by 3rd-year HC Andrea Vaughan. Feb. 25, in game two of a DH at home vs. Rogers State, junior outfielder Kayla Appleby picked up her 100th career hit. Sophomore Kari Rodriguez leads SEU in batting average with a.340 mark overall and a.381 average vs. Heartland Conference opponents. The Hilltoppers picked up their first overall and conference wins of the season in a doubleheader sweep of Newman March 4 on the road. The wins snapped a 19-game losing skid dating back to Kari Rodriguez and Kayla Appleby hit the first home runs of the season for SEU in an 8-4 loss to Tarleton State Feb. 14. Sara Machado set a career-high in hits (4) in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate in a 5-3 loss to Fort Hays State Feb. 10. Kari Rodriguez set a career-high in both hits (4) and doubles (2) in a 4-for-4 performance at the plate in an 8-5 loss to ENMU, Feb. 9. SEU is playing with one senior, Sami Williams, the Hilltoppers return 11 players from last season s team and added five freshmen and three transfers The program is seven wins away from its 850th overall victory since beginning softball in SEU and Texas A&M-Commerce began the second game of a doubleheader Feb. 7 in Commerce, however, the game was halted due to weather. The game will resume March 14 at Noon, prior to a scheduled doubleheader in Austin. St. Edward s University is a member of the Heartland Conference through the season but will merge with the Lone Star Conference in the Fall of 2019 creating the largest NCAA Division II conference at 19 institutions. HC RANK D2 RANK SEU HEAD COACH MEGHAN MULLIN 6th Season at SEU 2nd Season as Head Coach Alma Mater: Nebraska, 2010 Meghan Mullin was promoted to head coach of the St. Edward s softball program prior to the 2017 season after serving as assistant coach for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In Mullin s first season at the helm, the Hilltoppers posted a winning mark against Heartland Conference opponents and finished at overall. Mullin saw Alex Mayfield garner First-Team All-Heartland Conference honors in her first season as head coach while Lauren Slatten, Kayla Appleby and Ashley Nassy all earned second-team honors. During Mullin s stint as an assistant coach at SEU, the Hilltoppers compiled a record. She also served as the graduate assistant coach in 2011 and In between her stints at SEU, Mullin spent two years as assistant coach at her alma mater, Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Chandler, Arizona. She also taught theology and worked as an assistant in the counseling center, and in campus ministry. As a player, Mullin lettered four seasons for the Nebraska Cornhuskers under head coach Rhonda Revelle. She ranks 14th alltime on the Cornhuskers career batting average list at.329 with 176 career hits. She finished seventh all-time at Nebraska with 54 stolen bases. Her junior year, she was named second-team all-big 12. In her senior campaign in 2009, Mullin was named the team s most valuable player and was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection. She was named to the All-Big 12 Academic Team each season she was eligible, and she was a team captain her sophomore through senior years. Mullin earned her bachelor degree in history from Nebraska in 2010, with a minor in Religious Studies and Philosophy. Megan Nicole Hoffman was born May 3, 1997 daughter of Roger and Lisa Hoffman majoring in psychology with career aspirations as a sports psychologist her biggest athletic thrill was winning state as a freshman.
