Thibault has collected 80 base hits this season, tying him with current major leaguer Jason Bay for seventh on Gonzaga s single-season chart. He needs 12 more hits to become the Zags all-time single-season hits leader...junior Eric Dworkis tossed his fourth complete game of the season in Friday s win, striking out three batters to bring his season total to 62. Dworkis needs just one more strikeout to move into a tie for 10th on the Gonzaga career strikeouts list with Sophomore Bobby Carlson clubbed two doubles in the series against SCU to bring his season total to a team-high 13. He needs just four more doubles to move into a tie for 10th on the Gonzaga single-season chart...the Zags will travel to San Diego for a crucial three-game Coast Division series. Gonzaga sits just a half game back of the Toreros and 3.5 back of LMU. Loyola Marymount Lions ( /17-7 WCC) - Head Coach: Frank Cruz Loyola Marymount held onto its three-game lead in the Coast Division by taking two-of-three from Pepperdine at Page Stadium over the weekend. Should the Lions and the Waves hold on to their respective division leads, LMU will host the WCC Championship series for the first time since the 2000 season when they claimed the WCC title...junior Jonathan Oller propelled the Lions to Sunday s series clinching win with his sixth homerun of the year, a grand slam. With 24 career dingers, Oller can move into a tie for ninth on the LMU career chart with three more round trippers...senior Billy Lockin continues to move up the LMU career chart for base hits. With five hits in the series, Lockin moved into sole possession of fifth place on the LMU list. Lockin also ranks sixth on the Lions career steals list with 54. He needs two more swipes to move into fifth place on the chart...lmu will look to extend its lead in the Coast Division when it travels to Saint Mary s for a threegame weekend series. Pepperdine Waves (20-24/14-7 WCC) - Head Coach: Steve Rodriguez The Waves dropped two-of-three to Loyola Marymount in a showdown of division leaders at Page Stadium. Pepperdine will not serve as the host of the WCC Championship Series for the first time since the 2000 season as a result of the Waves losing three-game sets to LMU, San Diego and Gonzaga, the three remaining contenders for the Coast Division title...junior Steve Kleen moved into ninth on the Pepperdine single-season saves chart with his seventh in Saturday s win. Kleen has also made a teamhigh 24 appearances this season to bring his career total to 60. He can move into a tie for 10th on the Waves career chart with seven more appearances...sophomore David Uribes has scored a conference-high 52 runs this season. With 11 more scores, he can move into a tie for fifth on the Waves single season runs scored chart...the Waves host #9 ranked Long Beach State on Tuesday, before hosting Portland in WCC action this weekend. Portland Pilots (9-33/5-16 WCC) - Head Coach: Chris Sperry The Pilots took two-of-three from visiting Saint Mary s over the weekend, matching last season s WCC wins total by claiming their fifth conference victory on Saturday...Sophomore Matthew Peters tossed his fourth complete game of the season and picked up his third win on Friday. He can move into a tie for ninth on the Portland single-season chart with two more nine-inning efforts...sophomore Justin Pierce slugged a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Pilots a 9-8 win in the second game of Sunday s doubleheader. Pierce went 6-for-12 for the series...travis Vetters collected five base hits during the series to bring his season total to a team-high 59. He needs nine more hits to move into a tie for ninth on the Portland single-season list...the Pilots host Oregon State on Tuesday, before traveling to Pepperdine for a three-game set. Saint Mary s Gaels (14-32/7-14 WCC) - Head Coach: Jedd Soto Saint Mary s knocked off San Jose State on Tuesday before dropping two-of-three on the road to Portland over the weekend...freshman Michael Nisco tossed two innings of scoreless relief to notch his fourth save of the season in Saturday s win. With two more saves, Nisco can tie the Saint Mary s single-season mark...sophomore Delaney Gallagher has slugged 13 doubles this season. With four more two-baggers, he can tie the Saint Mary s single-season mark of 17...Junior Jordan Simo logged eight innings in Friday s loss, bringing his conference-high innings pitched total to The Gaels return home to The Guisto to host Coast Division leading Loyola Marymount for a three-game weekend series. San Diego Toreros (28-20/14-10 WCC) - Head Coach: Rich Hill The Toreros scored a season-high 16 runs in a win over UC Riverside on Tuesday and traveled to San Francisco, where they took two-of-three from the Dons...Freshman Jordan Abruzzo continues to hit at a torrid pace in WCC play, as he went 6-for-14 with two homers against USF. Abruzzo has only struck out three times in 102 at bats in conference games...senior Aaron Wilson earned his conference-high eighth win on Friday, giving him 26 career victories and putting him into a tie for fourth on the USD career chart...senior Tom Caple paces the conference with 49 walks this season. He needs nine more free passes to become San Diego s all-time single-season leader...freshman Nate Boman closed out both of San Diego s wins over the weekend to bring his team-high save total to six. With three more saves, Boman can move into a tie for second on the USD single-season chart...the Toreros host Gonzaga in a crucial WCC series this weekend. San Francisco Dons (22-26/9-12 WCC) - Head Coach: Nino Giarratano San Francisco knocked off Nevada on the road on Tuesday, and dropped two-of-three to San Diego at Benedetti Diamond over the weekend...half of USF s 26 losses have come by a single run this season, including two to the Toreros this weekend. The 13 one-run losses are more than that of any WCC team...senior Chris Genung clubbed three triples in the USD series, bringing his season total to a conference-high 21. Genung needs just two more doubles to become USF s alltime single-season leader...with 234 career hits, senior Armand Gaerlan needs three more to move into sole possession of third on the Dons career chart...usf will host Santa Clara for a three-game WCC series this weekend. Santa Clara Broncos (20-26/9-12 WCC) - Head Coach: Mark O Brien The Broncos stretched #2 ranked Stanford to 14 innings on Tuesday, before falling SCU then dropped two-of-three to surging Gonzaga in Spokane over the weekend...senior Chad Fillinger struck out eight Gonzaga batters in Saturday s loss, bringing his conference-high strikeout total to 86. His 215 career strikeouts puts him in eighth place on the SCU career list...junior Will Thompson slugged three homers last week to bring his conference-high total to 11. Thompson needs one more dinger to move into a tie for ninth on the SCU single-season chart. His 22 career taters ties him for 10th on the Santa Clara career list...scu will travel to San Francisco to take on the Dons in a three-game weekend set.

3 Around The WCC Gonzaga s Kiel Thibault Named to Johnny Bench Award Watch List * Gonzaga catcher Kiel Thibault was named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list as nominated by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. At the time of nomination, the sophomore ranked fifth in the Division I in hitting with a.453 average. The Jerome, ID native has collected a conference-high 80 base hits this season and is threatening the 27-year old Gonzaga single-season mark for hits of 91, set by Larry Patterson in After playing in just nine games as a freshman, Thibault has started all 43 games for the Zags this season and has thrown out 32 percent of would-be base stealers WCC Preseason Baseball Poll Results Place School (first place votes) Points 1. The award is in its fifth year and is presented annually to the top national collegiate catcher. From the initial watch list, 10 semifinalists are selected and announced on May 20. LMU 3. Gonzaga 4. Saint Mary s Assaulting the Record Book * A number of WCC veterans are staking their claim to earn a place in the conference record book. Three San Diego seniors have consistently moved up several charts this season. Joey Prast became USD s career leader in doubles with his 64th last week. He also moved into third on the WCC career chart, and would need nine more to become the conference s alltime leader. Tom Caple drew his conference-best 49th walk over the weekend, putting him just four free passes away from moving into a tie for 10th on the WCC single-season walks chart. Aaron Wilson earned his 26th career victory on Friday, and needs just two more wins to move into a tie for 10th on the conference s career list. With a WCC-leading 11 saves this season, Santa Clara s Anthony Rea needs just one more to move into sole possession of third on the conference s single-season chart. With nine more base hits, LMU s Billy Lockin will move into 10th on the WCC s career hits chart with 270. WCC Championship Series Run Down * With LMU taking two-of-three from Pepperdine over the weekend, the WCC Championship series will most likely be hosted by the winner of the Coast Division. Pepperdine holds a strong lead in the West Division, but have lost series to LMU, San Diego, and Gonzaga. The WCC Championship Series has been held in the Los Angeles area since its inception in WCC/Rawlings Player of the Week Clint McGill, Loyola Marymount Clint McGill led Loyola Marymount to a crucial series victory over Pepperdine, as the Lions held on to their three-game lead in the Coast Division. The senior batted.471 (8-for-17) for the series, including a 3-for-5, 2 RBI performance in the series opener. McGill also earned the save in the Lions win, coming on to pitch 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. The Fresno, CA native also scored the go-ahead run in Friday s victory. McGill finished the series with four doubles and a stolen base, while driving in four runs. WCC/Rawlings Pitcher of the Week Eric Dworkis, Gonzaga Gonzaga s Eric Dworkis earned his seventh victory of the season on Friday, tossing nine innings to record a complete game victory over visiting Santa Clara. The junior limited the Broncos to just one run, while striking out three SCU batters and scattering seven hits during the outing. The victory was the 19th of Dworkis career, moving him into a tie for 10th on the Gonzaga career wins list. The Bellevue, WA native has tossed four complete games in 12 starts this season, striking out 62 batters in 87 innings of work. In this format, the conference is split into two four-team divisions, with the two division winners meeting in a three-game championship series to determine the conference s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the regular season series between the two division winners hosts the championship event.
