The Panthers will be meeting the Auburn Tigers for the third time this season. Auburn s No. 3 ranking makes the Tigers the highest-ranked opponent to face the Panthers at the Heck Softball Complex. In the first RPI release of the season on March 21, GSU came in at No. 39 which ranks second-highest in the Sun Belt. Sophomore Ivie Drake leads the team in batting average (.382), slugging percentage (.708), on base percentage (.530), walks (27), doubles (6) and home runs (7). Drake was named an All-American as a freshman in Senior Taylor Anderson s 23 RBI is most on the team. Anderson was selected to the preseason All-Sun Belt squad. GSU s pitching staff is led by senior Katie Worley and transfer sophomore Annie Davis. Worley has both a perfect game and no-hitter to her name this season and ranks No. 7 in the country in hits allowed per seven innings (3.48). Davis has two complete games this season to go with a 3.15 ERA. Freshman Arden Jobe has reached base safely in a team-best nine games in a row. Two Panthers were tabbed to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team in catcher Ivie Drake and shortstop Taylor Anderson. Georgia State was voted by the conference coaches to finish third in the Sun Belt this season, the same position the team finished in last season. Georgia State has 991 wins since the first year of fast-pitch competition in The Panthers are trying to become just the 34th program to reach the 1,000 win mark. Perfect Worley Senior pitcher Katie Worley tossed GSU s first perfect game since 2013 on March 15 in the Panthers 13-0 rout of Kennesaw State in five innings. Worley was named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week earlier this season after throwing a no-hitter. Clutch Freshmen Freshmen Reagan Morgan and Remington Hasty have each collected walkoff at-bats in GSU s first 17 games this season. Morgan provided the walkoff two-rbi single on 2/19 that lifted GSU to a 4-3 win over Maryland. Hasty earned a walkoff walk on 2/24 in the Panthers 8-7 victory over St. John s. Midweek Walkoffs Georgia State s three midweek contests have all been one-run decisions with two of them going to extra innings. GSU used a Kensey Caldwell 12th-inning walkoff HR to take down Georgia Tech 3-2 on 2/17. One week later against St. John s, Remington hasty drew a walk with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, giving GSU the 8-7 win. One week later on 3/3, the Panthers beat Kennesaw State on a walkoff RBI-single by Morgan Brown to win 2-1 in the eighth inning. What can Brown do for you? Junior Morgan Brown has played a major role in each of GSU s three midweek wins. Brown tied the game with an RBI single against Georgia Tech in the bottom of the seventh on 2/17. Against St. John s Brown once again provided an RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh that tied the game. Ivie Drake was named Player of the Week on 3/1 after belting three home runs, four doubles and a triple. Tough Competition Georgia State opened the season against No. 6/4 Oregon and also faced top-25 teams Utah and Notre Dame in the opening weekend. GSU then hosted No. 5 Alabama and will took on No. 3/4 Auburn in a doubleheader onmarch 6. Also on the 2016 schedule is a home game with Auburn, three-game series with top-10 UL Lafayette and a visit to Athens to face top-15 Georgia. State Championship GSU is scheduled to play nine games against teams from Georgia this season.
